Thank you so much. As a dark skin black woman, I was very intimidated while in Hollywood and not only blew auditions but even when I did my best later here (yes it made me silence my talent) in the Southeast region, as a dark skinned woman, I'm expected to audition for "period pieces". My hope is to change the narrative, create jobs and stories for actors with darker skin
I don't like How most Tyler perry Movies about black women being abused on drugs graped everything that down grade black women. That's my problem with Tyler Perry. Not really enough of black women success it's always Negative.
T.P. has deep issues and maybe even hatred toward black women. He said he based his material on the people in his family he saw growing up remember he was also abused. So his accounts of black people and interpersonal relationships is severely negative. He needs to start showing the actual truth and real life experiences of black women and their successes not their failures and their tragedies.
See, as we who watches these movies and artists are oblivious to what goes on in the industry we don’t see it. We see a good show or a funny show. Social media has opened up a whole new world that we aren’t knowledgeable about. Nothing is how it seems.
It's all hidden messages and symbols in everything we watch but when those who are in the know try to tell us the truth we quickly dismiss them saying they crazy, wrong, jealous, bitter etc. They all try to inform us and warn us but we shoot the messenger and just ignore everything until it's too late.
A lot of celebrities & fans know that Tyler Perry, along with Oprah Winfrey, are one of the two most riches, evil people & regardless whomever they happened to hurt or destroyed in the Hollywood industry! Also, an old saying "What Goes Around Comes Around". They'll get their's someday! 😠😤😡
I'LL NEVER FORGET READING IN A JET MAGAZINE WHEN GEOFFREY CAMBRIDGE WHO STARRED IN WATERMELON MAN, A BLACK DIRECTOR TOLD HIM HE WAS TOO DARK AND NOT HANDSOME ENOUGH TO MAKE IT IN HOLLY-WEIRD! WISH I KNEW WHO HE WAS....
I think you mean Godfrey Cambridge. Cambridge starred in 'Cotton Comes to Harlem' and Come Back Charleston Blue'. He was pretty popular actor and comedian Back in the 70s.
You right and they just was blacklisted and we didn't get to see them unless they was playing such disgusting characters. I mean it was ridiculous even in Mama Flores family. Blair Underwood even though his character wasn't a bad stain or anything on the black community, he was treated as such and jailed and beating and and he was shown to be. You know a horrible person in the light of even though he wasn't. He was an innocent man in the movie but still he was shown to be the bad and portrayed as the bad. When his brother Luke Fleming played by Mario Van Peebles. A lighter-skinned character was honored. He was in the service he came out. He came, became a lawyer. He worked at a firm. He had this. He had that man. Isn't that something? That's crazy?

I do not respect the beat up, angry, cheated on, used, etc black woman persistent themes & now (thank you) for pointing out the colorism. When I did watch his early movies/plays, I did not notice this "duh" it hould have been obvious to me. Let's love each other in all our shades and leverage our viewership to demand more positive images and role models. The world is watching not only for how we are treated but how we treat each other.
Valuable information and video. Thank you. Keep them coming. I love Bill Dukes documentary on dark skinned black women. My favorite Bill Duke movie is American Gigolo.
I think many people suffer rejections, but none like ours... no matter what field we are in, from early we😢 build a way of coping with the broken world of people we live amongst. I know we are not perfect but we are quietly living unbeknowing to the world a unhealthy, unspoken coping mechanism within. We love to laugh but i feel Tyler mad🎉e it big through us melaninated people that got him rich & wealthy, its time he did more to uplift our race in a positive light, by trying to erase colorism within our community and the to others. No wonder so many melaninated people are desperate for acceptance by changing their shade, marrying out etc.
Bill Duke is one of my favorites!! Yup. Take it from Duke a G' in the industry! And, I NEVER liked Tyler Perry's work. In fact, I HATTED his productions! I don't think he was proud of his image, either?!
Y’all turned on Bill Cosby and believed the enemies lies. However not too many blacks or enough are saying shit about rappers and how they enforce negative stereotypes about black peoples
The field vs house s!@^* is such a crazy idea..to believe that working for free in a hot @$$ house with no air conditioning and being you- know-what by the master of the house and bearing his children and being beat by his wife is a privilege...is a crazy concept...nobody had it easy...it was s!@^ery...😢...nobody was safe
Yep. I respect SpiKe Lee but he’s begging to be accepted, while Tyler built his own film studio and named a lot after Spike Lee. Tyler is worthy of criticism but I respect that he owns his own studio
I am not a big fan of Tyler Perry. To me his work is all the same and all of his workis either predictive, no depth , or overly bufoonish. Saying what I said I can not deny the jobs and exposure he has given black people.
I don’t understand how our people know the history and for victim to it. I’m so glad people are getting their careers themselves without doing all this nastiness.
I love Tyler Perry - I have to say some of Tyler's depictions of the Black Family so brilliantly reflective in my family, no lie - It's old school but true. Just because blacks have become more progressive in so many ways does not mean that I can't look back and remember big mama, or Uncle Joe. Ok
Spielberg had ET whereas there wasn't a person of ethnic for coming in his films and no comment.. Blacks or these social aware people's have to drag the man who had a far fetched dream into reality. Shame to all who darr knock achievements of our ancestors
Tyler Perry and other people who do the stuff he does make it hard for me to be light-skinned because I am judged on my light skin color that I have on me but I do not disrespect anybody who is darker than me matter of fact I think they are so beautiful. I told somebody if I was black as a African in Sahara son I would be just as jaded as ever so God knew to make me light skinny because he knew that I would look at darkness as beauty.
Bill Duke is a great actor and a man of truth and honor !!! I really admire this man.
Facts!!!! I’ve got Mad respect for this man! Younger generation… please look at his older movies. Great actor and a real human being!

It is like he is selling the opposite of what he saw growing up because that sells fast easily!!

Bill Duke is very open about this difficult topic.
See, as we who watches these movies and artists are oblivious to what goes on in the industry we don’t see it. We see a good show or a funny show. Social media has opened up a whole new world that we aren’t knowledgeable about. Nothing is how it seems.

Tyler perry's films men are always abusive or gay nothing else.
Shemar Moore, Boris Kodjo and Rick Fox were romantic heros in TP movies but Steve Harris, Blair Underwood and other dark skinned men were bad guys.
