While Jessica's departure might have affected it, I wouldn't say it's the main factor of SNSD's decline since 2014. Regardless of who it is that left/got kicked out, fans lost trust in the group. One the things that groups promise and show their fans is their unity. Groups like SNSD especially have referred to their group and members as family. They call themselves sisters, the people they can 100% trust, the people who'll always have their backs. When they've promised fans or even the public something as big as that and then have a member depart controversially, saying she was kicked out while her company says she left by choice, it'll really break the trust. Fans and groups also take pride in being like family because that's what got them to the top. It's also easy to believe and wish that they're basically family seeing as how long they've spent together (more than half their life). Trust is a lot.
