Bear Mark lived a sad life as the last restaurant bear in Albania. He was confined to a concrete cage, that was built without plans of Mark ever leaving. 💔 However, our dedicated team gave their all to rescue poor Mark, including cutting the cage open, and bring him to our BEAR SANCTUARY Arbesbach - where he can now, finally, live a species-appropriate life. 🐻
Mark is currently getting used to his new life and carefully exploring his surroundings. 🏞️ After his initial adjustment period, further measures for improving his health condition will be decided.
Thanks to your support he will get to enjoy a beautiful, big enclosure 🌳 with real ground beneath his paws for the rest of his life.

Mark looked round at his new home as if he was thinking he'd died and gone to heaven. Credit must be given to the new restaurant owner for doing the right thing. The faces of the Four Paws team radiate goodness, love, humanity - they are beautiful people. Wishing Mark a long and happy life with other rescued bears for companions.💖

What sort of person would be attracted to a eat at a restaurant holding a wild animal hostage so cruelly? Despicable!
What sort of people are attracted to zoos? Most zoos aren’t bigger than that cage for bears or polar bears.

Haven't been near a zoo for more years than I can remember. The only positive thing that I can think of, regarding the (decent) ones is the fact that many animals who are extinct in the wild, may some day be returned to where they belong. @@lynnebaldwin330

20 years of pain..Mighty Mark gave us a true lesson on resilience! No excuses ,no mercy for the sick bastards who kept these gorgeous bears captive all these years,Albania need some serious laws against animal cruelty ,twisted humans who let this happening without saying a word..but they forgot not everyone is like them,thank you for saving these glorious bears,they deserve to live free and happy now🙏✨

When Mark felt natural ground for the first time in 20 years, and the look on his face was so happy... I am so moved that I can't help but just cry. Four Paws International, the work you do is so incredible and valuable ❤❤❤

Heartbreaking to see his former cage and to think of twenty years of misery. Four Paws does remarkable work in caring for animals all over the world. The look on poor Mark's face as he is released is so moving. I hope he has many years ahead of him and that he can have a good life to look forward to. Thank you to everyone concerned.

It's so good to see Mark free and able to feel grass & ❄️ beneath his paws. Some of the most emotional parts in this video is seeing him look around before exiting the transport cage and hearing him described as a shy soul. Animals are thinking, feeling beings meant to be free in the wild. They're not meant to be held captive by humans. We would never tolerate that treatment. Thank you to the Four Paws staff for doing this work and for the care, love & respect you continue to give to animals.
Yes, I couldn’t agree more to all you’ve said. His face expressed so much in that moment of release. He was so overwhelmed. I think we can‘t completely comprehend what it means for him to touch natural ground and smell the winter forest after 20 years of horrific captivity and neglect. It‘s good to know that he will be in a beautiful place and well cared for for the rest of his life. So glad there are no more restaurant bears in Albania!

It was the complete look of wonder & amazement in his sweet & gentle eyes when the door was lifted and he got to see his new enclosure for the first time that just broke my heart. You could clearly see how completely astonished & in awe he was. These rescuers are marvellous and do so much for these poor terribly abused animals. If we feel so happy to see all these animals rescued from their hellish existence these rescuers must just feel beyond elated to see them experiencing this freedom for the first time in their lives. These people are absolute HEROES. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thankyou to the new restaurant owner for his humane act. I wept tears of joy to watch Mark relocated into his new home in Austria. It's unbelievable that it's taken 20 years to free this beautiful bear. Great achievement, well done 4-Paws.

I'm so glad you said that it's the previous owner , who is disgusting beyond belief when giving up the restaurant he should have contacted the team not left it to the poor new owner he obviously knew it wasent right him being there it could have been extremely dangerous if he'd got out while there was guests there , plus as albania us proberly slowly opening to tourists lots of European tourists would have been horrified so bravo to new owner doing right thing, though I bet previous owners nowhere to be gound
Wonderful news! Had to cry at this, his first look at his new home was so emotional, what must he have been thinking? Id love to know. Wow, what a journey to bring Mark home! I don't think I have cried this many tears for any animal rescue such as Mark, and I have seen and support many Four Paws incredible rescues. Watching Mark on day 1 lying on the dirty concrete in that lonely cage imprisoned for 20 years for the sake of human entertainment was aching my heart. His eyes was so gentle and yet sad. By the last day of the journey, the excitement of everyone accomplishment was just thrilling to watch, all I want to look forward was Mark reactions to his new home. The moment he opens his eyes, I can see it shines with wonder, curiosity, hope, freedom and it almost look like tears as well. And when he walks out slowly to the open air and step on the ground in which he has never known, with his head up and his eyes was fill with happiness, that was the ultimate moment I broke into tears of joy. I wish I can see him in person but for now I am happy Mark is free and he is where he belongs. From my heart and soul, thankyou Four Paws rescuers, vet and restaurant owner for your dedication, effort, kindness, and love to give Mark his freedom and home. I have been your supporter and will always stand by for all your incredible work of saving all animals lives. Bless you all.

I’ve watched this rescue a few Tim’s and get choked up every time. The look on his dear face when he is released is just priceless.
Please take care the cages are also destroyed and no other animal will be ever trapped again in those torture places.

The poor thing…. 20 years is a long time! Who are these heartless people that could walk by him everyday and not care that he’s in a tiny horrible cage?
