- Do you feel like you sing too far "forward"? Many singers wrote in saying they felt like their voices were too shrill and not round enough, while others wrote in saying the OPPOSITE!!!
So we're going to try to briefly explain BOTH of these technical issues the best we can, and Norman is going to give you some simple exercises to fix them, or at least get you on the right track!
We also analyze a short clip of Norman's singing to better explain! We're hoping to include more examples in the future, even YOUR examples if you want to send them in!

@@Noy_shiv Hello Ms, Thank you for your time to respond. I find that upon setting my breath in the low abs (pelvis) my onset has a perfect smooth release (Bernoulli Effect ) of the voice.

I combined the “ng” with two stacked fingers in my mouth and realized.... tad dah dahhhh

I can lower my larynx in a natural way I think, the only problem is that my chords tend to wanna separate a bit. Jack livigni said this is normal, that you just gotta work on the compression, but you guys said that the compression should come with the low larynx. So, do I not try and exercise to compress my vocal chords more while having a low larynx?
Thanks for your question! Without hearing you it's hard to give you the best course of action. Here's what we can offer: when you breathe, try to imagine an "aw" vowel - like in the word "hot" - see if that helps relax the larynx naturally and sets you up for a clean onset with your cords coming together.
You have to practice!! It is another function in the Voice that closes the vocal chords when tour laryncs is as deep as what livigni teaches. Sorry my English sucks but as I remember from my teacher who was an dramatic tenor it is called the arytenoid cartilages which close the chord even though the larynx’s is that deep. You can train it with these baby noises that Livigni suggests in one of his videos. It is not easy I am also struggling. But it is the right position in the passagio from let’s say a flat to C and of course before the larynx must be deeper as well.
violanta is one of my favorite works and it is rarely performed. I prefer it to the longer more laborious and dystopic works of Korngold like "Wunder" or "Stadt." I wish the whole video were available but I can only find the trailer

Hey there! Recently I just found you guys and I really appreciate the experiences you shared on UA-cam.
I have been studying voice for several years and developed some bad habits like pressing down the tongue to create 'low larynx' and 'fake baritone' voice. Except from age, is there any tips to help singing with low larynx in a natural way? (maybe some exercises?)
I found that my placement is always not high enough because of the pressing. I try to sing with low larynx and it's full of tightness, especially in higher register. Actually I can reach the high notes quite easy, like Bb or B. I'm on my way changing to a tenor but I know I'm gonna ruin my voice if I continue to sing with that bad habit.

Sorry to sound dumb but how do you do cord closure? I hear several people say you must force your cords to close but no one says how to make that happen.

Just say the pure Italian vowel, the best one for the closure is "A". Image that you are Italian and say "Andiamo a casa!"
The question worth of one million. Hahah. I’m a professional opera singer, doing pretty well and just recently I discovered that my vocal cords weren’t closed properly in the mid range. Doing not that well? 😂So shameful. 🥲 I repaired a lot. Properly closing vocal cords, helps to get an effect of mask singing, but in no way there is need to push the sound in so called mask area. Also what these guys talk here, helps to get an idea of a healthy singing. Avoiding singing in the nose or covering in fake way, helps to find the way how properly to close your vocal cords too.
Hi, love your channel! Do you know what it means if I only feel vibrating sensations on one of my chords? I can achieve closure quite well but it's just a strange feeling and I wonder if it's a sign of anything bad
Vocal cords do not have the nerve endings that would allow us to feel them. That's one of the reasons singers are hypochondriacs (their cords could be irritated and prone to damage without them knowing). The sensation you are feeling could be happening anywhere from inside the lungs to the top of the throat, as those nerves are kind of all tied together. I once had a nasty bleeding injury inside my lungs that I could have sworn was in my throat - I was convinced I had ruptured a vocal cord.

Hello gorgeous couple OK this is gonna sound really Odd and I don't know how else to write it so I'm just gonna go out and say it I love you guys totally amazing I need help and I'm willing to pay through pay pal this sounds totally crazy I know but I need a warm up somehow put on Somehow Something I can Use daily I don't want to go into too much detail I am going back to my singing have been doing it since I was 6 My grandmother was an opera singer sat under her piano knew them whole messiah by the time I was 8 and my grandfather was the conductor of the Chicago civic which became the Chicago lyric my studies have brought me from North Carolina to New York City and I had studied for 30 years 1 day you don't warm up and your peers and teachers and coaches notice 2 days and the world will notice I need an hour long warm up from low G which I can do in head voice or chest or a mix up to D above high C which I can't do any more the best warm up all the best You have I know you both are loving enough to do this I will then begin again to start singing my 30 hours a week I'm not sure whether I'm going to New York and Europe back to where I was and where I am known and/or going to the UK and doing something totally crazy but it might work I've got letters and proof my voice is exactly sounding like Jessye Norman A very heavy dramatic.... I really want something that starts low and then gets you warmed up enough to get to the high the only reason why I want a high D above high C is because then I will have A strong C Because although I am a Wagnerian I think now the only opera that I would be able to do would be turandot There is a lot more to this story letters I can send the end I am trying to save my babies they are 9 and 10 and basically living with a murdering terrorist so I must go back to my singing I've never stopped but I do not have my warm up tape I was with some of the most famous people in New York probably the most famous manager and one of the most famous singers but I cannot ask them because if I go there I want to go there as perfect as I can be as I feel like I am older now and that will work against me although I think I can sing another 25 years But again I also have an idea about the UK which you both would probly think is crazy anyway I love you guys will you do it please I can send you my email if you want to and I will pay you through pay pal I don't have a lot of money right now obviously but I will give a lot for a one hour warm up tape from the 2 of you that will take me safely from a low G up to the D above high C you guys are beautiful your voices magnificent love you both XOXO please help it's Christmas and you're saving so much more than you realize

Friendly tips
so you guys teach singing and stuff, but know nothing about digital audio?? fitting... reverb and echo is your enemy... you must learn to maybe cut it off in the audio OR... go to a room, start singing, if there are great acoustics... probably not a room to have a talking video :D the audio is terrible its like you're in a tunnel...
