- If North Carolina doesn’t add any more personnel to their roster and stays at the 11 players they currently have, what would ideal lineups look like? Right now the Tar Heels have six returners (Elliot Cadeau, RJ Davis, Zayden High, Seth Trimble, Jalen Washington, Jae’lyn Withers), two transfers (Ven-Allen Lubin, Cade Tyson), and three freshmen (James Brown, Ian Jackson, Drake Powell). How would you construct the ideal small ball lineup? Who would a more traditional lineup consist of? Davis and Cadeau seem like the two set in stone regardless of lineup style, but it’s pretty wide open after that.
Also, it’s time for the Diamond Heels to host a regional this weekend at The Bosh, with LSU, Wofford, and Long Island as the other three teams. How will the Heels fare?

I firmly believe that the reason we struggled to get a 5, is because Hubert wouldn't promise starting minutes over Jalen Washington. Remember UNC basically grabbed Cade Tyson who other than Koby Brea was easily the best shooting transfer (Hubert's number one requirement) right off the bat. It makes more sense that the minutes not the NIL money was the factor for not being able to get a starting center.
Jalen Washington needs to improve strength and lateral quickness but his 3 point shooting at the 5 (.533 in limited attempts) opens driving lanes like no other center in college basketball. If his defense is adequate (he is a good shot blocker) and he doesn't get pick and rolled off the floor, his offense makes them elite especially in the half court. I expect him to come back quicker and stronger this year.
Also, don't sleep on Zayden High. Everyone knows about that sophomore jump. Withers has highlight athleticism but he's an inconsistent 5th year senior. Alot of people don't know or forget Zayden had a massive (8 inch growth spurt in H.S.) and went from a back court player to a front court player. He has the handles and shooting ability along with the motor. I think Hubert will be hard pressed to bury him.
I hope Hubert opens up his bench this year even more but we will see.
Finally, and I doubt he'd do it, but Hubert could run a dedicated 2nd team of 5 and press. You could throw, Seth, Ian, Drake, Withers, and Zayden out and full court press. That group would be nuts and would be able to get in an up and down game to take advantage of all that athleticism. It would be a great way to get the bench minutes, would be exciting and would tire the opposing team out so the starters could come back in and have an easy time against tired players.
With the money these portal guys get they probably wouldn't care as much if they didn't get 35 mins. As long as they get their price.
I think we should remember our bigs have great length foot speed and with Powell and Jackson gives us so much versatility at the 3 and 4. This team will be so interesting to watch and create so many problems. What will hurt us will be a big mobile man and I’m hoping J Wash will bulk up over summer and solve that problem.
He should have bulk up two years ago, and stop playing below the rim.

I'll give it a go: 1, 2 and 3 are obvious, so I'll just add Washington and Lubin as both playing 4/5 at the same time, swinging back and forth, or both at the basket at the same time. However, if Cadeau's shooting doesn't improve, maybe RJ starts at 1, with Trimble and one of the Freshmen sharing the 2/3 with Tyson. It's gonna be wild.
They need a true 5 still. They are out there go get one of them. IMO
Too be a solid powerhouse team and final 4 team they will need another solid BIG man
Elliot, RJ, Ian, Drake and Washington should start. But I’m afraid they will bring Drake off the bench and try to keep him for two years. Ian and Drake are NBA players
Let them boys prove themselves on the college level first before u label them as pro players

I think our lineups will be far more situational than we are used to.
HD is going to have to sub sub sub and run run run and press more than most Carolina teams of the past.
Gotta get boards to run though.

Drake Powell once again being underestimated. He will challenge Seth as being the best wing defender. His offense is also underrated.
This teams success depends on HD finding an happy medium in the playing time. I think if he play them the way you guys are saying there will be a mutiny by the end of the season so I will give you a more reasonable team with times. RJ 26min, elliot 24 min, Cade 25 min J whit 20, and Jwash 24 starting 5. TRIMBLE 20 MIN, IAN 19 MIN, DRAKE 18 MIN, VANLUBEN 22, and 2 for High. If he do that and really push the ball with hard nose defense I bet they will win at a high level as well as keep everybody happy. A happy team where everyone participate is a happier team
I like van lubing at the 5 too only switch I make is start Ian and Trimble first off bench.. Trimble 6th man of year this coming year

I iknow I get a lot of push back on this but I'm telling you this team is going to have to let some things play out on the court for the first couple of months meaning I really don't think the starting lineup for the 1st game will be the same on Jan 1st I really believe by Jan 1st or so the starting lineup the rest of the way will be Rj, Ian, Drake ,Withers and Washington. With Cadeau, Tyson & Lubin & Trimble coming off the bench.
Hubert will really regret his lack of Porter ability to get a big man and Ian Jackson will be the best player on the team next year
I don't think Jalen Washington's physical condition is still a concern. He was injured in high school 3 years ago.
Jackson is different. I love Tremble. But before AC, C, C, play. Ian, we'll be starting just a prediction

I actually do love Zayden. He seems like a top tier teammate and a great player. I just don’t know if he’s better than what we’ve got. Time will tell! Would love to see him play and succeed.
Drake and Ian are not ready yet so Elliott at the 1 RJ at the 2 Tyson at the 3 Van Allen at the 4 and Washington the man in the middle at the 5 and with that bench final 4 team

This guy have no faith in Washington. He is gonna be so wrong. Washington will have a breakout year. I believe that's why a lot of people didn't come, not just the money, but they couldn't promise them a starting job. Because they believe in Washington. We will see
Darren, I admittedly don’t have a ton of faith in Washington. But I also admit that I love Washington. I hope he does great and that I’m proved wrong.
I can only go off of what I’ve seen thus far. And so far I’m under the impression that he isn’t strong enough to be a true 5 and isn’t mobile enough to be a stretch 4. His shooting is great. Time will tell and like I said, I hope I’m wrong. Would be great for all of us if I am. GDTBATH. Go Heels!
