We had the album with this song when I was a kid in the 60s. Getz and Jobim hooked me on bossa nova. Thanks for the quality of your arrangement and teaching style.
Absolutely!
Havent played seriously in 30 years. Dug out my old cheap classical guitar after seeing this vid. It took a while but I finally got through the whole tune. Thanks for the inspiration !!!
That's fantastic! Thanks for letting me know.
*_UGH!!! FINALLY!!!!_*
I've been trying to find this lesson with the intro for YEARS... and *_you_* finally brought it! And with the correct chords to boot!
All the other people online would skip the entire intro altogether -- and I kept thinking *_'maybe they have a different version than I do?_* ...
But I grew up on the Getz/Gilberto album version, which obviously starts off with Astrud singing, so this is the only version I'm familiar with.
Man oh man... thank you SO much for *_FINALLY_* showing up on my feed (after years of trying to figure out the intro chords).
My pleasure, Phil! Thanks for the awesome comment!!

Amazing, muito bom man
Thanks!
Amazing lesson, skillful guitarist
Thanks!
This is great! I had the chart of these chords from years ago and seem to have lost it. Here it is - the most simplified version I’ve come across. Love the way you don’t waste time with ‘…now put your little finger on the blah, blah blah string of the fourth fret…’ etc. keep ‘em coming Dude and I’ll be back!
Thanks, Brett!
You make relatively complex music seem relatively straightforward!
The chord change on the 'and' of 4 is so characteristic of Bossa, and particularly of this tune.
Great teaching, and very nice playing too.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Great sound! I am considering dedicating a few evenings/years(!) to becoming somewhat accomplished at this genre. It's so calming, provides excellent atmosphere to an evening with candle light, in an intimate setting.
Thanks, Thor! It's great music.
Ótima explicação.
Muito obrigado, Marcos!

Thank you for displaying the chords out so clearly. Now there is no excuse! My problem is not the strumming rhythm it is which chords to use.
My pleasure! I hope it helps.

Muchisimas gracias Miguel!
Dominique
Merci beaucoup, Dominique! Joyeux Noël!
Nice to see your video, and find another person with an interest in bossa nova. I started working on corcovado about two years ago, and found no two versions of the chords that were the same. The one I thought closest to the the "correct" version (if there is such a thing) had a few difficult chord fingerings that I was able to work out simpler fingerings for.
I think a few of your chords are different yet again, so I will review my version to see which of your diffeeent chords may fit better, sound-wise.
Thanks for the comment, Al! Let me know what you find.
Awesome thank you
Thanks you! I hope it helps.
It helps so much thanks, I think other jazz tutorial are just too advance even the beginner ones. I find learning songs like this hopefully will help me understand what jazz guitar is one day, I have very lil knowledge on like 32 bar stuff and like triads, so hopefully one day will be able to understand how things works together, at least beautiful songs like these keeps me interested in guitar again makes me pick it up again :D and I am motivated again! After a year not been playing XD thanks for sharing these awesome video to the world!
My pleasure! I'm happy it gave you motivation.
Excellent! Or should I say muinto bon!
I'll take either. Thank you!
Tough one!
You can do it!
🚬😎 really cool , new fan
Thanks!
The anticipation is a subtle, yet sophisticated, syncopation that helps give bossa nova its 'lilt.'
Also, even tho there is no D in the first chord, I think of the first chords as a D9 then a D dim7
with the 9 on top. This, to me, gives it a certain logic, as the next chord is Gmi7 to C9, etc. .
Hi vert pleasant to hear you
Thanks!
Merci pour le cours 👌🎸👍🎃
Un plaisir, Laurent. Merci beaucoup!
Très bonne explication
Merci !
This is one of the best if not The Best lesson on Corcovado. Very clear the way you explain it and the video also is easy to follow. Been wanting to learn this for a long time. Where do you teach? Online or in person also? I am in S. CA. Thanks for the great tutorial. Bravo.
Thank you!! I teach online and in person and I live in Kansas City. Thanks again for the excellent comment, I'm gearing up to make some new videos and you've inspired me.
You got a new subscriber
Thanks!
Thanks!! I used to sing some Bossa Nova and have been playing more guitar now, so I remembered how much I loved Corcovado, so here I am :) I was actually surprised how instinctual (with your excellent tutoring!) it was for me to play! Guess it got in my bones from singing it. Do you teach Águas de Março? That's another favorite of mine. Thank you sooo much, this is fun!
Hey Kristina! Thanks for the comment. Below is a link to my Aguas De Marco lesson and I also have a link to my band Cubanisms performing it. We used 2 singers, guitar and Cuban Tres for the arrangement. I hope you can check out both and let me know if you like them.

@@MichaelMcClintockMusic wow, awesome- Im excited! Thanks 👍
Thanks for the lesson, this is the base patern but not enouth for playing interesting guitar part
👍
This is wonderful! I've been trying to play this for literally 50 years, Your tutorial is making it possible. Some of the chords and hand stretches are tricky for my old hands and stubby fingers so I have some alternative fingerings you might find helpful for some of your students.
For the 1st four chords I keep the exact same hand position, with my 2 finger always on the bass note, my hand merely sliding down the fret board one fret at a time. On the Gm7 the fingers are a little crowded with the 1 finger tucked in behind the 3, but it's so much easier to go to the C9. Also, I was having a really difficult time lifting my ring finger for the change from the F Maj7 to the F6. I could never get a clean chord. Maybe because I'm left handed or that finger just refuses to be trained. So instead I just exchange my 3 finger for my 4 finger on the G string for the F6. Don't know why but it's so much easier for me and I get a clean chord every time.
Thank you for this lesson. You are the best. Also the chords played on the upbeat is a eureka moment tip!
Very cool, Thomas! Your comment made my day. I am very happy my tutorial is helping.
Not sure if you guys gives a damn but if you're stoned like me atm you can stream pretty much all of the latest movies on InstaFlixxer. I've been streaming with my brother for the last few weeks xD
@Ricky Kaiden Definitely, I have been using instaflixxer for years myself :D
@Ricky Kaiden Yea, have been using InstaFlixxer for since november myself =)
50 years…. I have been playing for 3 months now, hoping to learn this song when I’m a little better. Hope it doesn’t take 50 years 😮💨
👍👍👍
Thanks!
thank's for the great lesson. I think that the Ab9 actually is a A-7, I distinctly hear a natural C (minor third) in the album version, and there is also a A7#5 after the D-7 the second time. Let me know what you think
Hi, and thanks. I don't think I ever mentioned an Ab9. You could slip in an A7#5 before the dminor7 for sure though.
Really Smooth. Thank you... I was a musician in my youth. Last year, I picked up guitar and started to explore this beautiful instrument. I play five minutes each day which turns into an hour or more. Bossa Nova is attainable for even me as a beginner. So good.
Excellent! Thank you.
É para quem tem o samba nos pés!
Hi Michael. Lovely lovely chords. Could you please sign post the pdf. I cant seem to find it on your website. Thank you :)
Hey Joe, this should take you to the download page. It's under Brazilian Songs/Chords To Corcovado.

@@MichaelMcClintockMusic Thank you so much. :)
What is the minimum dollar amount one should spend on their first classical style guitar? Brands?
Do you have access to a guitar store? If so, I would just go try a few out and see if any feel and sound good to you.
Can you do a class on the song MEDITATION?
Absolutely! I'll be making a lot of new videos soon and I'll add that to the list.
@@MichaelMcClintockMusic so excited....I'm just learning guitar and have started with your arrangement of One Note Samba. Love it. Thank you.
Being a pest now also looking for Samba de Orfeus ❣️
No problem at all. I'll add it as well.
1 note samba, por favor
oops. you already did 1 note - found it, thanks again so very much!
Is that a Dorado Guitar?
No, I had it built by a Mexican luthier named Salvador Castillo.
The time is and1234?
Yes, you hit the first chord with your index, middle and ring finger on the AND of 4 and then you hit beat 1 with your thumb. You anticipate the beat. It can be a little tricky if you're new to it.
@@MichaelMcClintockMusic I absolutely love this song. Thank you for sharing and posting. Sincerely.
Great job, I really think you should introduce the video with playing what you're going to teach first
Thanks, Simon. I'll take that into consideration.
