This song hits down deep for Fathers. Husbands ,etc! How many times when your young children look at you thtough their eyes thinking you are a hero and can not do any wrong! But deep down you know you just a guy trying to survive day to day!
I LOVE this song! My interpretation is that he really loves her, but deep down, he knows that he's not good enough for her and that it's just a matter of time until she figures it out. Unfortunately, I can relate to this one.
The only members of Boston that you need to know are Brad Delp, the great singer, and Tom Scholz, who writes the songs and I believe plays all of the instruments in the studio. I believe the other members were just for touring.
Isn't this so great both musically and with such deep and meaningful lyrics - I told you this was one of my favorite songs of all time.
The meaning is open to interpretation, but to me "this dream you see" is her perception of him through her lens of love. He will never be the man she sees because that would be impossible no matter how hard he tries. He loves her and that is why he has tried so hard to live up to what she sees. He "can't get any stronger" and "can't climb any higher". He tells her to "hold a little tighter" - i.e. try to get us closer emotionally, and maybe that will be enough. Maybe she'll realize her unattainable expectations. At the end the character seems to change a little, and he's looking to "find a way" to feel like the man she sees. He can't keep hiding his feelings, and I would hope he doesn't and gets her to be OK with how he really is. Doesn't everyone that is truely in love perceive someone more than that person sees in themselves.
For other hard-rockin' bands that have a softer side, check out "More Than Words" by Extreme and "Lady" by Styx (BTW, this was the first true power ballad).
Boston is the Boss, I love this band!👍♥️
I am glad that young folks like yourself open up to listening to older music! I am 65 years old next week and I have experience great music throughout my years! Let me ask you listen to a couple of songs you might enjoy! The first one is from The Steve Miller band! The song is titled The Joker! It's a 70 rock band and this song was very artistic in its notes and lyrics! The second is the man call Meatloaf! Jim Steinman whom wrote the music and Meatloaf was one of the greatest collaborators all time! Meatloaf voice was second to none! The music is theatrical plus with the rock element! The song you listen to is call Objects are closer then they appear to be! This song in a way covers Meatloaf life while growing up! Very powerful! I hope you enjoy the songs I recommend!
Another great song by Boston!!
One of my favorite all time bands. ❤️🎶
Brad Delp (R.I.P.) sang all vocals on their first 3 albums. This song is from the second album, "Don't Look Back". My interpretation of it is he's telling her he is incapable of meeting her expectations, and that their relationship can never progress until she accepts him as he is.
Love this song. His voice is one of a kind. RIP Brad Delp ❤️😔
Great to see the yoots getting into the music o' mah yoot! Keep delivering, young man...
I truly love seeing this younger generation appreciate the music of my youth . Keep up your journey my brother🤘🏻
My favorite Boston song... heavy. 😎 Edit: you are an old soul in a young body MD.
Saw them at the Texas jam Dallas cotton bowl. 1978.
This reminds me of that other Boston song ...
Remember, a bad marriage is a longer prison sentence that any prison sentence one could get.
