JD, you are good at your job but have the misfortune of covering a team that has lost its way and a lot of fan support. Hang in there. Hope it will get better in the future. Congratulations to Tommy Edman! Glad he had success this year. Another Cardinal mistake getting rid of him. He is a spark plug.
Sick of those thinking the Tommy Edman trade was a bad one. They got a No. 2 caliber SP out of the deal who's STILL signed for '25 on an arguably cheap $7.5M deal. Said pitcher had a 2.95 ERA over his final 7 starts for the Cards. I think they did just fine!!!
If Bloom is making the final decisions, I believe it is going to be a very productive off-season. It will be interesting to see who goes and what the Cardinals get in return. I'm very happy for Tommy Edman!!! Thanks JD!
Brother I feel the same way as you do in regards to Nolan Arenado. He's been my favorite player for a decade and then we finally pulled off and getting and they wasted his time here and probably going to ship him off which is very depressing. Oli Marmol needs to go and so does Mo before any players go.
I've been a Thirdbaseman for 20 years now, and I'm still the starter for my softball team. While I've said many times that Pujols will always be my favorite player, Arenado is my favorite active player and has rapidly ascended my all-timers list. I, too, always admired Arenado when he was with the Rockies, and when we made that trade?! That felt like the first step of what I thought would become another two decades long run of excellence. Man, how wrong I was... I am crushed that we are likely going to watch Arenado go continue his HoF career with someone else...
As an old Cardinal fan, I still firmly believe that new is good but needs guidance from the old. Reset not looking forward to as it means another year of going no where unless they do keep more than just pitching. I am and always will be a Goldy fan. Yes numbers are down but why not offer low with incentives for production and playing time. He can run and steal and with the right incentives I believe he can hit better than this past season.
Congratulations to Tommy Edman and Jack Flaherty for being World Series Champions 🏆 I hope the DeWitts watched the playoffs to see how far ahead those teams are. I trade most of those guys for better than Robertson/Santos deals. I believe good pitching can save us during the rebuild. I trade Helsey for as much as I can get, but keep Gray and Fedde to go with Pallante and prospects like McGreevy. Then, with some of the money saved from Arenado, Contreras, Goldschmidt, Lynn, Gibson etc...to land a pitcher better than Gray to make formidable rotation. Then, Burleson/Baker at first, Gorman, Saggese, Donovan, Prieto at third. I keep asking how good at third was Walker and Gorman before being forced to other positions. Otherwise, it's more tutoring in right-field for Walker. It's crucial that Brown or someone fix both at the plate.
Personally; I'm looking forward to the moves and offseason. I look at this as the beginning of a new direction for the franchise, a season of evaluation of a lot of young players. As you said, we haven't scared the playoffs the last two seasons with these highly paid vets. Heisley should bring some top young talent. I think it will set the stage for the Hot Stove next year. We'll decide the keepers out of our young pool of players and start to fill in some blanks with Bloom leading charge. Also, I'd think the local TV situation, new Cardinal streaming platform, etc should be fully understand with more accurate revenue projections going forward. Rebuilds aren't fun for this type of franchise but it's truly needed at this point.
The only player that I'm definitely counting as "He Gone" right now is Helsley. Arenado might be second, but they'd have to find a team that he would be willing to go to AND that team would have to want him enough to give up a decent prospect or two to get him. That'll be tricky. Plus he seemed like he might be starting to embrace the role of helping to bring along the younger players last year. He just might be game for sticking this one out, even though he's said his clock is ticking. Contreras and Gray? I don't really have a good feel for, but I really DO hope they will stay. The Cards need those guys over the next couple of years with all the youth coming in.
The only anticipation this year is if Gorman Walker and Nootbar all play better... I don't think the rotation will be bad. I don't think Gray is going to let them trade him... Gray Fedde Pallante is decent... if Mathews emerges it could be good... the biggest bummer would be Contreras being traded... Arenado, I would be open to swapping him with another player on the decline w/ less years on their contract. Like George Springer. Who can play CF
Let there be no confusion on this topic. The team does not need to reduce payroll. The team isn't that bad. If key players would not have been injured or and their top producers actually produced this team would have made the playoffs. If they cut payroll it's to be cheap not because it's needed.
Hey JD; Based on the glowing remarks Bernie Miklasz shared about Pujols and why he’d be a great manager, he’d be my pick. Yadi can be the pitching coach and Skip could be the bench coach. Yeah, I know. Skip wants to manage. 🤪
Dodger's just won their eighth World Series. And considering the vastly different trajectories of these two franchises, How many seasons before they overtake the Cardinals as the National League's premiere franchise in terms of World Series titles? 10? 15? 20?
With ohtani, they are sure to win at least another 2-3 in the next 10 so I’m gonna say in the next 15-20 years they will overtake the cardinals in terms of World Series wins. They’ve already surpassed them in terms of being the “premier franchise” in the NL. They are in LA have a massive following and have the best players in the world on their team. They have been dubbed the NL Yankees.
@@Excitegaming0 It's so sad how our ownership has thrown up their hand and given up, when we used to be able to at least be competitive on the field. Dewitts, the owners that give so much lip service about the rich history of the franchise have screwed up it's future.

They're not playing for any championships anytime soon so why not give the talented youngsters a real chance to succeed. This goes for Gorman, McGreevy, Pallante, Herrera and all those guys at Triple A we heard were good and never see again.
