I was really pleasantly surprised by the Esher Demos. I return to them often - White Album unplugged I guess. For the main album my fav. is the mono version. But honestly, hey it's the Beatles - I'll take them any which way and still love 'em. Great video Larry. You have a good day too! Greetings from New Zealand, Andy.
hi, here is my list 1) WA 2) SPLHCB 3) AR (love the blu ray PCM stereo format which surpasses the CD) 4) Let it Be (great but I was disappointed by the lack of the rooftop concert; I would also be happy if they could include all the 4 Glyn Johns mixes et not one) 5) Revolver (great but missing blu ray ; I love the mono mix which is better IMHO than the one from the Mono Box set)
If they do Revolver/Rubber Soul 1966 box, I think it will the most popular one yet with fans..I agree Abbey Road was underwhelming but essential for fans none the less…Let It Be is a great set but it is number three…I like the presentation of the Pepper box the best but I think the White Album has the best musical content..so I rank it number one..great video Larry..
Nice video I agree with the white album as the best…so far Rubber Soul/Revolver would be fantastic, even if it’s like those remixes done on the re released yellow submarine album a few years ago Also there’s also the forgotten Magical Mystery tour songs to remix, perhaps a remixed EP?
Excellent news on the middle period Beatles releases. Have the 87 stereo, mono from the noughties and Canadian mixes (date unknown) of both. Will bite the bullet and buy a fourth time. Enjoyable, thoughtful editorial as usual.
I only have "The Beatles" box set. Still not sure I like Lennon's vocals on 'Dear Prudence' moving around. Fantastic book though, it encapsulates information from 3 other books. How is the text of the books in the other box sets? Any revelations in there, some anecdotes revealed?
Hello sir This might sound crazy but my ranking of The Beatles box sets is exactly the same as yours Although I love all of them Abbey Road would be in last place because like you said, we only got 2 CDs of extra material I love the Let It Be box set but The only thing that I didn’t like is that they included a CD that was only an Ep I think that was totally unnecessary because those few tracks could’ve been add it to one of the other CDs I have nothing to complain about the Sargent Pepper box set or the White Album box set but my number one would definitely be the White Album I say this because I love The fact that it includes the disc with the Esher Demos The songs that I mostly love from the Esher Demos are Child of Nature, Whats The New Mary Jane and Sour milk Sea
I have all these save the Abbey Road... for that I just grabbed the 2 CD version. I simply wasn't motivated at the time. I might revisit that one as many deluxe LP copies are still available. Great video, Larry.
It will be harder for Giles Martin's team to make new mixes of "Rubber Soul" and "Revolver". Starting with "Strawberry Fields Forever", the separate tracks of each element recorded were saved, before mixing tracks together onto one track of the multis. So, it was much easier to remix everything from "Strawberry Fields Forever" to "I Me Mine". My ranked worst to best Beatles 50th anniversary box sets goes: "Abbey Road": I only bought the 2 CD set, I thought the bonuses were a little disappointing, and all but 8 songs are on the 2 CD set. "Sgt. Pepper": Although, I think this has the best remix, the bonuses could have been better. Thankfully, most of the best ones are on the 2 CD set. "Let It Be": This remix is the second best to me. and this gets extra points for including the "lost" Glyn Johns "Get Back" album. "The White Album": Probably my least favorite remix, funnily enough. But, the bonuses are wonderful. 50 bonus outtakes, plus the full "Esher" demos.
That picture of the Beatles at the 15:10 mark kind of surprised me Larry, especially at how short the Beatles were, especially John Lennon,he looks like he's only 5"8 or 5"9 and Paul towers over him. Bob.
I had a lot of fun watching this video, The only one of these box sets I have which is the vinyl version is of The Beatles White Album which I thought was going to be your second favourite! I’ve recently just got back from Liverpool and I want to know if you’ve been before???😃👍☮️❤️
Interesting that you have a mid-print on your copy of Let it Be…don’t feel too bad though, probably worth something extra in the future? I’m my Sgt Pepper box I got two Pablo Fanque posters. At first I was really pleased, but then I thought that some poor bugger may be missing a poster… Anywho, I own and love all the box sets (White Album being my favourite-some bias creeping in here-as it’s my favourite album ever). I say bring on Rubber Soul/ Revolver et al. The more the merrier!
I predict that one day everyone will want the original George Martin (& Phil Spector) versions and that they will be released on vinyl and CD from analog. Of these Box Set versions I do not own the White Album one but take your word for it.
I was disappointed that the Abbey Road box set missed two great outtakes, Something with an unused piano outro that formed the basis of John Lennon's solo song Remember and You Never Give Me My Money with an outro jam based off At The Hop. Let it Be I was disappointed how close the remix stayed to the Spector version and would have liked more outtakes but I was happy to get the Glyn Johns mixes. The White Album box I have almost no problems with except I wish they used Revolution Take 20 instead of Take 18. Sgt. Pepper I was very happy with cause apart from the Strawberry Fields sessions, I don't think Pepper outtakes had been very well presented on bootlegs. Anthology 2 whetted my appetite for Pepper session outtakes and the box took it to the next level.
In terms of sound, I'd go : 4) White Album, 3) Let it Be, 2) Pepper and 1) Abbey Road. For packaging: 4) Abbey Road, 3) Let it Be, 2) White Album and 1) Pepper.
I agree entirely with this ranking. I have the Sgt. Pepper box set. I also have the Abbey Road remix on vinyl. I've heard the White Album remix and it definitely has the best improvements from the original. Just waiting for a price drop for the White Album.
The only extra cuts I regularly play are Strawberry Fields Forever. Especially Takes 7 and 26. Over and over. I haven’t got Let It Be, heard all the extras on Spotify. I play the remixes of all 3 others when I play the albums, I keep the CDs in the little covers out of the boxes, with my other CDs.
You forgot to say, "that's what she said", when you mentioned "the long one." My complaint is that they could have included more outtakes and demos. There was a lot more room on the cds. The White Album ignored Hey Jude. Best remix for me is Sgt. Pepper's.
Have ALL FOUR MYSELF. There All Treasures . I Fall in Line with your selections . WHITE ALBUM and PEPPER are myTwo Favorites. Really looking forward to REVOLVER AND RUBBER SOUL. I have quite of few Bootlegs on Revolver and Rubber Soul . So looking forward to Giles to Go into the Valts and HAPPILY SURPRISE US .✌️🙃
The problem with the Abbey Road boxset is that the original production was so clean that it was hard to improve upon. Furthermore, some of the extras had appeared previously on Anthology 3.
I definitely like the Sgt Pepper's remix sound best except she's leaving home sounds so sped up compared to the original. I originally got used to it and then went back to the original which suddenly sounded like it was slowed way down, now I'm used to both and like both. I probably like the let It be remix second. White album 3rd and Abbey Road remix is good but like you said I probably listen to the original as much or even more.
The Let It Be box set I have is in vinyl and I love it. However, I wish they could have thrown in the blu-ray. My next box set will either be Sgt. Peppers or Allied Forces by Triumph. How much did Sgt. Peppers cost?
I love almost all remixes. I don't think the originals sounded that good (the pannin I think is horrible), but it's probably due to the old tecnology, not that they sounded bad for their time.
Overall, I haven't been too impressed with the Giles remixes. The only one I've liked is the White Album and it might even be my preferred version. The outtakes are interesting and it's nice to have the mono mix on the Blu-ray too. I haven't really liked any of the Abbey Road CD releases and still prefer my 1970s UK LP. Sgt. Pepper is almost unlistenable to me. It's like every little detail is turned up all the way. Let It Be doesn't sound any better or worse than the original and the outtakes aren't all that great. At this point, I'm pretty much satisfied with what I already have and don't care if Revolver or Rubber Soul get remixed. After living with the original remixes for 50 years, remixes seem like just a mildly interesting novelty.
Is it true that the remaining Beatles be unable to place their right palm on the KJV and & say these words once only->> I refuse to be full of demons. ???
I noticed your number on the White Album. I got No. 0002422. Only problem. I'm not a good steward for these things. My box got water damaged and a bad case of mildew rot. I saved the cover and about twenty pages. Oh yeah, and the plastic thingy. I reordered the box and got you beat again. No. 0056984.

Yay! Rubber Soul and Revolver finally! I’m buying both box sets 100%! No question about that!
Great video Larry. Makes me wanna go back straight away to reappraise each box set. Keep on rocking in the free world.

I'm so glad they gave us all of them and fixed the synching issues.
Hi Larry. Yes the rare "Let it Be" "Upside Down" edition! Nice to see such important musical history being preserved with these box sets.

Still One Of My Favorite Box Sets I Have Them All And I Love Them All But If I Have To Choose I Pick The White Album Box Set ,Nice Ranking Larry 👍🤘

I love MMT, it should include the 4 'new' songs from "Yellow Submarine".
If I have to pick one , I'm going with The White Album. I really like the long and slower version of Helter Skelter.
Excellent news on the middle period Beatles releases. Have the 87 stereo, mono from the noughties and Canadian mixes (date unknown) of both. Will bite the bullet and buy a fourth time. Enjoyable, thoughtful editorial as usual.
Thanks Scott!

I've got my Get Back (2021) book printed upside down, so 🤷🏻♂️
Giles Martin should remix all the Beatles albums I agree

Canadian stud muffin I find my self loving let it be album more after the documentary to
I'm going with the same as you Larry. At least today tomorrow I'm not sure. They're all so damn good.I mean it's the Beatles.Love the video though Larry
You should really watch the White Alum blue ray it’s great on a good system.👍🏻✌🏻

Hello there fellow Beatles fan. I own the six disc deluxe set of Sgt Pepper.
Would have been nice if they all included the vinyl and were all the same shape boxes. Like Led Zeppelin’s Deluxe box sets which are superb as well.
The Let It Be box set I have is in vinyl and I love it. However, I wish they could have thrown in the blu-ray.
My next box set will either be Sgt. Peppers or Allied Forces by Triumph.
How much did Sgt. Peppers cost?
I think I paid $200 for mine.
Love them all!
Stack 1 Larry…
Closer to Home and Tommy almost swayed me… but Stack 1 it is.
The remix made me a Long Long Long fan. I’d never liked it beforehand
My favorite is the cd box set will of their cds in it
I might have to ask the judge to reconsider… and sentence me to 4 years instead of 2.
I love almost all remixes. I don't think the originals sounded that good (the pannin I think is horrible), but it's probably due to the old tecnology, not that they sounded bad for their time.
Pretty much the same as my ranking except swap Sgt. Pepper with The Beatles album.
FYI Esher is pronounced Eeesher :)
Sgt.
