Here in Miami Brother!!! I'm actually the Head Football Coach at our Local HBCU Florida Memorial University!!! Came across your content and I just started growing!!!! Started my compose and everything!!! Just waiting on the rain 🌧!!!! Thank you brother!!! What your doing is special!!!!
Yeah coach ‼️🫵🏽😌 I’m near Orlando and looking to start as well. That’s awesome I’m so happy to hear that for you. This is a beautiful journey, that hopefully will/ can inspire some of your players. A great mindfulness activity for men
I literally JUST said how does he make compost, clicked your name, clicked long form videos and boom!!! Divine timing!! I'm starting tomorrow friend. Thanks for all you do!!
This came right on time I had just asked myself how do you make compost. My grandmother lived on a sharecropping farm in her younger years and when I grew up, I watched her for leftover food and put earth worms in a pile of muddy looking soil inside her garden area and I never knew why now I wish I had all of her gardening skills as it is Absolutely necessary now with the upcoming famine as prophesied in in the Bible
Today i was trying to compost. Wasnt sure how and actually ran across your video without searching up about how to compost. So anyways Thank you for your content im trying to get my family to eat greener so these videos are so helpful.
Thumbs up for the shoutout to Millennial Gardener, I've watched his video as well in recent weeks, been following him for a while, I'll be honest this is the first video of yours that I've seen. I'm going to check out some of your other videos after this one. I appreciate when UA-camrs acknowledge where they get their inspiration from. Great job!
Your enthusiasm is always fun to watch, you remind me of a childhood American story called Johnny Appleseed, you’ve probably been told that before, but either way thank you for your cheerful advice always
@@Jabez_invests super cool you know some of the pictures I found online of him looks like he may have been a light complected black or mulatto man, do you know of his heritage?
I started composting about 2 months ago it’s going okay so far I’m a beginner so I’m just being patient and tending to it and letting rain water get in it and stuff. This video definitely helped because one thing I didn’t do right was layer the wood and stuff on the bottom to help promote drainage so it’s been a little swampy in my compost bin. Overall great vid though!
Thanks for sharing brother. I drilled a few holes in the top also to allow rain water in. Also sometimes I'll press the lid down to make it concave to catch more water. Just a simple thing so you don't have to even think about having to take the lid on and off.
Great vid! In the nation’s capital trying to spread the knowledge with my neighbors and tenants. When people realize the gain for themselves by composting, it’ll become normalized.
Thank you for this video! I'm really wanting to try composting but was worried about how to do it "the right way" you really did a good job of explaining this!
New subscriber, thank you for making this video. This is something I have been wanting to do but was very intimidated to try. I will be trying this. Now, we do have rodents in my city. It is one of the biggest reasons I didnt want to compost. But with this method I definitely feel comfortable getting this started ❤
Me and my husband have running across you videos, showing each other. Especially your books. I’m going to buy your books so we both can lose weight healthily
Thank you! I live in the city of Baltimore. We do deal with rodents and I would need more information concerning rodents. I would like to do gardening in totes because I don’t have ground to plant into so I can’t plant things in the gram. I have to use containers or pots.
You can try getting Mason jars; still small holes into the lids; place fabric inside; and, drench them in essential oils like peppermint. Place them around the composting bin.
You can spray peppermint oil from a bottle around your bin and garden. For some reason they won’t go near it. I ordered some for my husband from Amazon because in our garage houses his pride and joy Ford Falcon that he’s working on and he noticed that the seat covers he had custom made had some of the stuffing out of it and the Will eat the spark plug wires, etc But he’s not seen any evidence of them since spraying
Go to the site becoming a farm girl. She's great! Her family lives in a townhouse and she does a ton of container veggies and grocery buying hints, recipes, and all kinds of good info. I hope you see this and it helps.
my girlfriend gives me all of her scrapes every Monday, Wednesday & Friday. all her food scrapes from egg shells to coffee grounds, bread etc. anything that has seeds I don't put into my compost bin that goes to my ducks. my egg shells I dry out & then ground them into powder for the soil when I repot my plants. i also go to the river & get sand i put that into my compost bin & my repotted plants. i don't put lawn cuttings in my compost bin as we have heaps of weeds with seeds
Try bokashi. You make a bacteria bran and put kitchen scraps in a bucket sprinkled with the bran. You can buy the bran/em1 solution online if you'd rather. The scraps ferment and then you bury them in your soil.
I just found your channel and I am blown away. I have been gardening for over 50 years and what you are telling people is going to help more than you can imagine. It is important to keep compost moist. I saw your video where you mentioned Rainwater and going to a lake to get water from there. What about people who experience a lot of droughts? I worry about our water supplies. I will often use tapwater when I have to, but I continually wonder if the chlorine, chloramine, and other toxic ingredients are harming plants. Not only that, but how much are they harming people. We need to get people paying attention to what’s in their water and how harmful it is to us.
Yes i saw his video too i love that guys but urs is even easier thank you i am in need of soil and I hate buying it! It's dirt it should be free right!❤
I legit watched the whole thing & right after i went outside & drilled couple holes into a 5 gallon home depot bucket that i’ve been using for about a year now to throw my food scraps into and then i placed the bucket between my lemon tree & onions & pepper plant. (The water from the bucket smelled like shit & your drill/tool will also smell like shit afterwords🤣🤣 so be careful if you wanna do my method) but it also took 30 minute from drilling to watering down the area after to clean up. Lets see how it goes in LA area 5/25/24
Question as I’m prepping to compost. If it doesn’t rain do you occasionally add water? Will the scraps cause maggots in the compost? Lastly is it just raw scraps? I’ve purchased one tote so far but the garbage pail seems like a better idea for the actual compost. And I’ve been putting my scraps away n a freezer bag. Also have a 5 gallon bucket bucket that a literally collected dried leaves and twigs. I’m so excited to actually start!
I've been trying to make my own compost. first Of all I don't know what I'm doing. So so far I haven't get good compost yet... Anyway. I am going to to do your layer technique.. 1 question. When you have your kitchen scraps next time what do you do? Layer again?
Hey great video straight to the point. I’ve done same method only problem I have is I can’t turn it over & mix it up as I can only get the top few inches. Does it have to be turned over ?
Why should you remove the stickers? They primarily are paper and glue. The paper counts as brown and can be composted. I would think that the glue is negligible because there is so little of it. It should be organic like kitchen waste. I’m just thinking this through. 😊. I will research it. 😅

Pro tip. Turn the lid upside down, drill some holes, and then when it rains it will drip into the bucket without letting a lot off it evaporate later
Great tip!
Nor the nutrients wash down into the ground😊
Thanks for the tip🌱🤙🏾🌱
I love composting my food scraps, dead leaves, egg shells, small amounts of soil, grass clippings.

Try a rainwater catchment system to use in your garden. You can also buy filtered and UV irradiated water which will kill the viruses, etc.

Awesome video! thanks for the knowledge. You can also use extra cardboard laying around for carbon as well😎
Thank you!! How long does it take to get useable soil once you start a new bucket?

Greetings from London 🇬🇧 any suggestions for egg shells, bones and meat ? Can we add them to this pile ?
I don’t have a tree close by like that. Can I use like branches and twigs??
Remove the stickers of everything. I saw those avocados at 3:45 had the stickers

Thanks for sharing my brother. Does it have a smell?
Hey, I live in Arizona, and it doesn't rain much here. Do I still need to water my compost?
You don't stir/mix it with a shovel? How do you prevent a fire from starting? A fire is my main concern.
How long does the compost take to breakdown before you can using it in your garden?
I want a compoater that we can use daily. Having to hold the scraps for a week will be an obstacle for my family. Any advice?
I just went to Home Depot and dropped $80 on dirt and shit, literally! Not doing that again. Will try this.
So if I don’t have dead leaves I can use grass clippings instead?
Question, how long should you be doing this until you can start using it?
💜💜💜💜💜
Do I need to make my compost bin from food grade plastic?
Good job bro! You got me started!
I live in hot azzz arizona. Would a simple structure be sufficient shade to not dry out?
I live in fort lauderdale... is there any place for sand in the equation??? Our ground is pretty sandy.
So for the carbon, can you use sticks from a weeping willow tree?
Yes any organic matter
I can imagine being his neighbor.. honey hes at it again
How long does it take for it to be ready to use
I used your video to show and explain to my students the compost bin in our garden. You break it down with ease - much respect.
Thanks! 🪴
What happened to 3 ft W 3 ft H 3 ft L . For composting effect likes more compost ?
I have Georgia red dirt can I use that?
Can carbon also be brown paper bags??
