Joplings has been gone for years now turned into student accommodation. The leisure centre used to be one of the best things about town again gone. Despite not living up there anymore Sunderland will always be my home away from home.

I used to see Santa in Joplings when I was a kid ,my mam and dad always did a trip from Horden to Sunderland on there own every Christmas to get our presents , I can remember as a kid looking down some stairs a of pub called the Gannett, I think its changed its name several times since. I used to love Joseph's got a new Casey every Christmas loved the leather smell of it and a new subuteo team

Town is shagged charity shops kebab shops or shut down…it will never recover as long as internet shopping is available and it’s not just Sunderland it’s all over the uk and I don’t don’t think the councils do enough to support them ie high rent and high business rates…
Lou Lou's for breakfast, then Joseph's for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle toys, then hills for Goosebumps books, then Woolworth's for sweets,look around Binns, look around Joplings. All gone now.
love these videos terry. reminds me of having days out during the summer . getting the bus to Newcastle then the train to Seaburn visiting roker park buying my top for the next season then heading to the city centre .
I saw a video that said it would take weeks to count votes in Arizona. I Commented "send the ballots to Sunderland they will count them in an hour for you "
The toy shop was Joseph's Terry loved that place as a kid. I live in the city centre now and it's so sad to see the state of the place, apart from the bridges the rest looks almost abandoned.
Class mate think nearly every town centre you go to as taken a hit not just bridges on line shopping plays a big part but to be honest the bridges is not all that bad still a lot of decent places to shop

Pretty depressing. So many old town centres in poor shape. Some even have lots of spice heads and drunk folks staggering about. Probably best to demolish some of the buildings.

Many years ago I visited Sunderland shopping centre, and i thought this was much better
than Newcastle town centre. I am from Newcastle.
