Guy wanted beer money instead of xwifes bike. Good deal
Lol
🍺👍
Buy the YZ80 in Marshall, wi....it just needs a carb clean and spark plug! 😂
This video is now Sponsored by WD40!!!😎👊🏻
Thanks for the laugh. 👍
This is my favorite Chanel to watch bike rebuilds because you always buy projects that a regular person can find on marketplace, and you approach the problem linearly by walking the camera through the steps of diagnosis.
😂😂😂😂
😂
Thank you captain obvious
@ 4:28 The piston is scored because someone doesn't do a proper warmup before revving it to the moon!
and no water pump
Is his name Joe ?😂😂😂😂
Another tear down without pressure washing
He's an idiot.....every single thing he does makes me cringe!
I've learned lots , starting to guess correctly about things ...tks Joe
I remembered my first 2 stroke KX rebuild. I found out the hard way that the power valve shaft nut was reverse threaded 😅
Made up for the lack of kicking in this video with heaps of no load revving. Good man
He will never learn
@@ctbale1he's too OCD and overload revving is childish
Oh yes I remember now he does not know how to shift a motorcycle it's really hilarious it's actually sad on the poor motorcycles he buys
If "rev the piss out of it" was a person it would be him lol
@@ctbale1 Hundreds of people been telling him and he still does it, thats kinda insane.
Joe, Just a suggestion. PB Blaster or Kroil Oil or Aero Kroil for penetrating oils. In my 53 years, I've found they work the best. I gave up on WD-40 years ago. And yes, the guy wanted beer money, indeed. At least you can save it and make it run great again, like you always do.
Thats because WD40 is a (water displacer) "WD" lol not penetrating oil
This channel is a big help for me Joe. I just bought an 89 kx125 last week with water pump issue. It’s convenient watching you work on the same bike as me simultaneously.
I'd have sold the ex wife for $300 and used the money to fix the bike
Lmao
That's an old style piston for sure and well overdue for replacement. Amazing what a bit of TLC con do! Look forward to the 2nd part.
Vinny tells you check that trailer Tire
I am always amazed on how easily you get the bikes down from your truck. Your legs are super strong.
If i had to unload bikes by stepping off the tailgate like that....i think my hips would break and id fall backwards and the bike land on top of me hahaha
😮
Ol' Joe loves his dirt bikes. Rear spring shot? Looked a little bouncy. Great video, always a nice day for a ride.
Little bouncy haha
I just learned, synthetic motor oil, works so good that it will not allow piston rings to seat properly, during brake-in. I like your videos.
NASCAR found out about how with synthetic oil in the differential on the cars, the fears would not seat and wear in l. So they would use regular gear oil to seat the gears in by running a few laps, then changing the oil to synthetic.😊
Also, synthetic oil will push thru Cork gaskets.@@steveperyer4850
You seat rings properly by doing a good break in
He named all the parts in the transmission that could be bad and then he says it might even need a new transmission 😂😂😂
lol I love that you just rip the fucking things full bore without warming them up
Exactly
who cares, it was jacked anyway.
@@steveww07 because he just does partial rebuilds & resells them anyway! hes the same kind of seller he buys these bikes from! Not once in 10 years has he done a actual REAL rebuild! everything is a budget build with parts that wont last a month!
@@coolnerdsclothing6377 you've never tried to resell something you rebuilt for money and it shows.
@@coolnerdsclothing6377 Does he actually sell these "repaired" bikes?
Good substance, good price. This one looks like it's going to be an allround winner. When you consider the age of the bike she's in great shape.
Had a kx 85 in the early 90's it ripped for a 125 especialy after new rings were fitted, looked the same as yours, great little bike, i then had a 86 kx 250 after, and that was a propper ripper too, then a 86 cr500 scary beast but loved it, best bike ever, wish i still had it 😭, love your videos Joe, 👍🏻
Do the Taryl Fixes All "heat and quench" trick on that power valve shaft. I had that same exact bike back in the late 80s. That was a fun little bike!! Great find for $400. Great video too. That cylinder would be a perfect example of something where a parts washer would be handy. If I knew where to send them, I'd ship you a ball pene hammer set. Love your channel. Keep em coming!!
Great video! I notice something though. On all your bikes, even newer ones, you check the VIN numbers. If you had a title you could avoid a potentially bad situation with a sketchy guy. Like the guy who wouldn’t let you kick the bike over. He could say, without a title, you stole the bike, and have to give him the bike and he’ll keep your money. The videos have really helped me learn more about my machine!
Very interesting alternative to car mechanics. I once bought a brand new Cagiva ‘Super City’, like the start of that James Bond film but red not camouflaged. It never did change gear properly from new, showing neutral at traffic lights but sneakily still in gear so would embarrassingly stall. It looked the part but I sold it.
Your channel is a treasure trove of mechanical knowledge and I really just want to say thank you!
Channels like yours are teaching me something new all the time and I'm super grateful for that.
I like that zip tie on the fuel filter 😂
You do amazing work and you are always calm. I respect your methods:) I have never missed a video
Look at when you took the shift spring off. The spring was on backwards. Steering bearings? What about rear shock? Measure the cylinder bore.
I seen that too, good observation
Joe is a hack
@@ctbale1 why even watch the channel?
That's it… Rev it to the fucking moon with no impeller in it!!!
Joe the broken water pump shaft cooked piston ring. Good catch on shift spring! Head gasket failure for sure. Don’t forget headstock bearings.
no revving the piss out of it when its cold seized it
Just a quick note today Joe. Remember that WD40 is not a lubricant, but is a solvent. it helps break down grease and oil based substances, but you need a penatrating oil for getting in and losing bolts, along with heat.. Thanks for the content.
read the label .it is
WD-40 is basically diesel fuel with some additives or without. It's not an oil for sure.
Wd40 was made as a water displacement for the inside of rockets. But it IS NOT a lubricant. Its great for dissolving rust and penetrating into bolts and threads, but it not a lubricant. Its a penetrating oil.
@@memorris2 read the can
@bager1246 im reading the can.....it says "stops squeaks, removes and protects, loosens rusted parts, frees sticky mechanisms, drives out moisture." Thats ALL its says. Maybe YOU should read the can, buddy....
35:13 That was classic. Spraying penetrant on the bolts AFTER almost breaking them trying to loosen.
? spraying before you break em loose you have to wait, he was spraying after so the threads would make removal easier.
I like the carpenters hammer, where's the ball peen and brass punch bro!!??
@@dc6233you dudes are weird, watch the video or not 🤫 🤐
OCD
@ja😂kemallory4239
Excellent job, as usual. I always learn something watching your videos. That poor Kawasaki has had a rough life. The owner must have known about most of these problems. You probably could have bought it for $200.
Now you have me looking at for a Kawasaki 1980's KX!!!! "Go Team Green"
The wear on the piston is indicative of a partial 4-corner seizure from warming up too quickly. That’s what happens when the expansion of metals heat up too fast, and therefor, unevenly. Warming up slowly, gives the heat time to dissipate from hot spots and heat up more evenly overall.
Just realized the coolant impeller was trashed. That’ll do it too obviously!
DONT REV THE PISS OUT OF A COLD 2 stroke! In fact when fresh start up DONT rev it at all! lol
Great video as always Joe. I always look forward to your uploads.
This was one of my recent likes…this was a job to see: I found it so interesting all the different corrosion issues and yet it still ran.
Ideal bike for you to work on. I think you should think about how much changing the silencer and even the piston will add to the value of the bike - it ran quite well as it was and a new ring and light hone and polish of piston will bring up the compression to a reasonable level.
Loving the content! Can’t wait to see this thing rip!
Great video. Don't forget to order (or fix) plastics.
Love the sound of the 2 stroke. Brings me back to the old air cooled days.
Let’s start it up cold and rev the piss out of it lol
You new around here? lol
@@BUFUmic 😂
That’s how you check em on this channel!
@@mrtireiron4289 if it survives it’s good to go lol
Every build! Haha little gas and some prayers
my favourite channel on youtube,a big fan from the uk,up the vintage rebuilds, learning a thing or two also, what a bargain for 400 bucks,i hope its an easyfix
Brilliant video Joe watching from Edinburgh Scotland UK 🇬🇧 👍
Love your channel...I watch it on the big screen in the living room.
Thanks Joe
Team Green, yes. I love full body bikes and lots of sidewall on my rear car tires. Now days most things look the same. Great find on the bike.
Don't want to cold size the ring right away either. Just like reving a chainsaw immediately.
sieze
@@coolnerdsclothing6377 oh looky there I did say size. Thanks!
hello! I liked this kawasaki. I liked its color and this vintage design! I will be happy to watch the 2nd part with the assembly! The gaps in the intake valve are not a significant malfunction. under pressure, the tabs are pressed against the body
After overheating and seeing how hard it was to get the piston out I would check to make sure the cylinder is still round.
Over heating by the previous owner or by this nitwit knowingly riding it around and cold revving the shit out of it with no coolant
Man that bike brings back some of the best times in my life. I had the 86 kx 250 and man did i have fun on that old bike. Thank you for the video. It really brought back some good memories.
Very cool, looking forward to rebuild👍
Hey that's a sweet bike!! Easy fix with the shifter spring in wrong. You will the top end sorted out, and muffler for it and the other odds and ends. Like you said for about $300 or so. And have a pretty fast Kawasaki. Love it!!!
Whenever I have a stuck head, I hit it like you did but ill take recoil rope and stuff it through sparkplug hole and GENTLY turn over engine to help push off the head.. give it a try next time Joe. Sweet video brother
Really enjoy your channel! 🍻
Great as always bud 👍👍
Don't forget the steering stem bearings too!❤
Headset
Yep!
Yeah , love these take down and builds
Excellent. Thank you.
Great bike Joe., can't wait to see this one get fixed man
Hey vintage i always watch your videos bro always good content to watch , i have a question i have a cr80rb and it has 6 gears but my 6 gear is nuetral is it my gear shaft? Or ??
Vinnie got a haircut!! Love your videos, brutha!!
Looking forward to this video, I have the exact same bike 1986
Hard to believe how well that thing started and ran. Amazing.
Watched virtually all your videos and been a biker (in UK) for 56 years however, if you jet washed the bikes before starting to repair them you wouldn’t need to wear gloves 😂
Great Bike BTW 👌
Awesome video!
Hey Joe, Don't forget the headset bearings... also, that rear shock looks like it's riding pretty low.
Joe you need to try PB Blaster for rusty bolts and parts.
Nice video Joe. That poor rear shock lol
No knocking in the engine 🤣🤣 sounds like a bag of nails ,
Amazing vid Joe keep up the good work
You are so awesome Joe! Love the sound of a two-stroke in the morning!
It’s been said that…. No new vehicle can leave the factory until your dog has given it the seal of approval, it can be then stamped with a “VIN” number 🤣🤣
Free all works great. Love the videos
Another great video!!!
When you work on these older two strokes do you repack the silencers??
Motion pro makes a awesome piston pin remover w/lots of varieties of size vsffdpin out through the is pins to screw on so it will slide the piston. I have the knock off brown or bronze colored one and it’s awesome
I really enjoy your content bro and I have learned a lot from you. I make sure I watch every minute of your videos and purposely click on ads. Please don’t ever stop making content 😁
New at your channel, it appears to me that bike riders are no different than those that drive cars. Put the key in it and face forward..put gas in with no pm at all. I had a BSA 650 rocket 3 that really ran great until i layed it down and busted my leg and side cover...i was a rider for a short time. Decided that bikes were not for me. I am anxious to see you get the BSA 500 back running again. Good channel.
Good deal brother, thanks for video.
hey man great video! I have a 2009 rmz 450 it idles and runs good most of the time but sometimes shuts off when coming to a stop Do you have any idea what the problem could be?
This bike seems hobbled by not enough travel on the suspension. And no power. Plus not shifting.
Another awesome video thanks for the entertainment.
Hi matey I wish you where in the uk your the best macanic Iv ever seen and watched on UA-cam
If got a Tom Barretta, 125
And a Honda 50 X reg I’m in the middle of restoration on it the other bike was a barn find compression is very low Iv evin charged the coils and chi unit and the stat i I’d of paid you to solve the low compression and no spark
I could
I really like your videos😊
You have this 4stroke habbit of taking 2t heads off for no reason and it shouldn't be advised as good practice. If you have a leaky head or you need to clean it up from proken ring fragments, OK, otherwise why break a good seal for no reason what so ever?
You do this over and over again, in so many bikes and I'can't remember one that it was necessary.
Just take the cyl off with the head in tact.
Bravo, another great video
Nothing better than Joe working on an old 2 stroke dirt bike.
Check cylinder for out of roundness. Oddly worn ring makes think that. Heck of a find. Great bikes in the day.
wish there were deals like this up where i live. i'd be livin the dream!
What a cool bike $400 bargain ,plenty of cheap fun for someone.
Well not bad Joe. I probably say that water pump went out a while ago and it overheated a bunch of times the way them bolts and power valves rusted out. Put some heat on that power shaft and tap it with a punch. I get it out and get the rust off all that and replace them seals. You need a vapor blaster to help you revive them parts for you without tearing them up. But all in all you gonna make out one way or another with it... 😉😉😉
I had the same bike in the 90s, now I got a 85 kx250, it's definitely worth rebuilding in my opinion
Runs and sounds good, clean up power valve, new rings, good to go. Great bargain bike.. easy peasy!!
My ‘78 DT Yamaha 250 had a ring that broke in 2 pieces because it was so thin opposite of the gap. Quick hone and new ring and it ran great.
That's a blast from the past
Another great video 👍
It's always a good day when Joe uploads
I learned some stuff about a 2-stroke in Thai video. I want to get into one but I’ll have to know how they work. Not familiar with power valves and reads.
Hone jug, clean power valves, new piston and ring/s, new again
Thanks for all your videos. Joe, can you touch on how the power values work in a video please.
yes i will
You suck
Get a clutch side crank seal while your there.
Nice Job 😊
