I made this a while ago without measurements and the inside was a bit raw and took way longer in the oven but was good! I am now trying this recipe again with measurements, i’ll update❤️
Thankyou so much I was able to do this cake and I had all the ingredients now I use your list most of the time for practise since I want to be a baker so thnkyou
I remember the school ones being very white. As in the cake itself was not yellow at all. It’s strange because almost all recipes I see come out with a yellow tint. Or am I remembering wrong?
@@MichaelWilliams-ce2or Nah I never found out my man. We will have to hop in a time machine if we want to know for sure lol. Is a small chance we’re remembering wrong but I doubt it. I remember them basically how you described.
@@johnmarrison5028 thanks John, unfortunately my little lad is dairy free so we always have to use flora, I find it's the one that tastes like butter the most
I asked my old school cook and she said they used a mix and liquid eggs and oil. So no butter, very little yolk. Prob loads of chemicals. That’s why it tasted amazing 🤣🤣🤣
10 minutes is usually okay, but basically when your oven first comes on (if its a gas oven) the flame is high inorder to get it to the temp quicker. But when the oven reaches the correct temperature it turns the flame down. For me i normally know its ready when the flame changes.
Butter?? In school sponge?? No way. Would be marj at best. And school sponge was made with powdered mix. It arrived in big bags. I know this because I used to deliver the stuff from the council central catering depot to nearly every primary school in the county.
This is the correct way to make it! Some of the recipes on here are ridiculous! Thank you for this video hun! Xx
I’d like to see these ridiculous recipes
I’ve seen the other recipes and they’re no different to this one.

What size baking tray is this for. I have 9 x 13 inch trays. How would i adjust it for this size
Does it need to be frozen if you want to ship this cake in the mail
Don’t know if there is something wrong with my oven but this took way longer than 25 minutes and I had to increase the temperature to 180°c.
Same here
Thought it was my oven!
Same hereeeeee. It’s still in the oven lol
Would I be able to make this recipe using an electric hand mixer?

Hi! If i’m going to use all purpose flour how many baking powder will i put?

Can I use a 10.2 x 8 inch tray with this recipe?
Is this the same recipe you use for vanilla cakes?
Is it 3 Medium Eggs? Please
Yeah 😊
I used to have this with pink custard
I only have large eggs! How many would I need for this recipe?
Vale at 300 degrees for ninty minutes. Soak in simple syrup.
Niiice🎉

I remember them being whiter as well and as thick as bricks yet extremely light and soft, did you ever find out why?
@@MichaelWilliams-ce2or Nah I never found out my man. We will have to hop in a time machine if we want to know for sure lol.
Is a small chance we’re remembering wrong but I doubt it. I remember them basically how you described.
It depends what butter/marg you use, if you use stork marg it comes out yellow, if you use lurpak butter, it's a lot whiter 👍

u said 3 eggs but only put in two, why?
I swear she did
Hi can you use baking margarine instead of butter please
You can yeah! I have found that using baking margarine actually gives you a softer cake 😊
@@MajesticCupcakery thank you 😊
Nice 👍 keep it up
AGH IM CRAVING THIS BUT I CANT MAKE IT RIGHT NOW
Ha ha
How long should I pre heat the overnight for ?

Is this recipe suitable for a 24cm x 21 x 5cm tray?
Yes it will be it might just be slightly thinner than mine as I used a 23cm x 17cm tin so should be okay :)
How would I make this a chocolate cake please? X
Theres a recipe up on my channel for a chocolate version 😊
So I made this and it was….
DELICIOUS, the inside was soft and sweet and soo fluffy
Update: the whole glass tray is nearly finished only 3 left!!
Is caster the same as powdered sugar?
No, it’s not. Powdered sugar is literally powder. Caster sugar is just fine granulated sugar. Hope this helps.
in The States it's superfine sugar. In UK it is Caster Sugar.
Without carbonat or baking powder?
Yes
It's with self-raising flour so doesn't need
Is the butter salted or unsalted
Unsalted is best 😊
Ok thank you
Is there an eggless version of this cake?
Late but I use oil instead of egg
How big is your cake tin
Its 12 x 8 inch 😊
@@MajesticCupcakery thank you I tried this cake today and it tasted great 🤗
@@MajesticCupcakery hehe
It was yum
what ist caster sugar?
Its like granulated sugar just a finer consistency 😊
@@MajesticCupcakery I live in germany I don't know what it's called here, can I use normal sugar?
Look for "feinster backzucker" if you can't find this then normal sugar is fine it just might be a little sweeter so take away 10g 😊
@@MajesticCupcakery okay thank you
How long does the cake need to cook for ?
Around 20 to 25 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean 😊
Mine went tits up didn't rise properly so very thick and not spongy think it has to be do with not mixing my ingrediants properly 🤷♂🤦♂
I did this but it was a disaster it took way to long to cook at it's still raw I did everything they did in the video what a let down!
Who else came from Elz the witch baking video with Harry Pinero
Butter?? In school sponge?? No way. Would be marj at best.
And school sponge was made with powdered mix. It arrived in big bags. I know this because I used to deliver the stuff from the council central catering depot to nearly every primary school in the county.
Its a recreation of the school cake, not the actual cake
Hi can you please convert the measurements to cups please or do you know a good website I can use to do the conversion
Omg yeaaa cause I don’t have the machine thing did you write the measurements down?
Don’t do this I tried it with the right measurements and it was wet
Mine was perfect
Cook it longer.
Instead of 160, put it in 175 to 180 for 25 mins. Stop it from being raw.
Is the butter salted or unsalted ?
for cakes like these i'd say unsalted
How long should I pre heat the oven for ?
About 20 minutes 😊
