I’ve been riding Harleys since 1985 and have almost 250,000 miles on 5 different HD’s. My current ride is a 2012FLHTK. I rode a 2021 Goldwing Tour DCT and have been wanting one since. I’m 72 now, and frankly the Harley is getting a little hard for me to push around, as it’s top heavy and weighs 950 lbs. The Wing with the reverse, low center of gravity and 100lbs. less weight is a no brainer for me at this point in my life. I’m just waiting for the right one, and I may wait till the 24 comes out with the 2000cc motor ACC, and a rear camera, with lane departure warning. I think I’ve earned my Goldwing Card at this point in my riding life. Btw, be an individual, and ride the Goldwing to Myrtle. One reason I started riding Harleys back in the 80’s is because all my friends rode Hondas. Nice review, and BTW that color is sick on the C8
I appreciate it my friend. Please keep in contact and appreciate your comments. I did ride the road glide to both events and the ride would have been way more comfortable on the Goldwing. It would have actually been a pleasure and too easy. My next long distance road trip will 100% be on the Goldwing. Needing some chiropractic and physical therapy appointments after riding the Harley-Davidson on two long trips.
That wing will carry you 400,000 miles bud. No issues . None of your Harleys put together won’t run those numbers. Goldwing most luxurious motorcycle on the planet.
The gold wing is the absolute best motorcycle and the longest lasting motorcycle in the world, I own one, I don't need a Harley Davidson when I already own the best of the best.
You can tell this guys priorities are in the right order. Garage full of motorcycles and supercars with spackle covered walls 😂. Great review of experiences with the diff bikes.
I appreciate it. It hurt bad to say and it’s also a big gamble to lose all the subscribers. Now that the bandaid is ripped off I just really want to get people to be more open minded and try other things. There are additional bikes out here that are also better.
I've owned may bike in my time. Mostly crotch rockets. I had a '12 V-Rod Muscle and hate it. Told myself I would never buy another Harley. Fast forward 10 yrs and now I want a Touring Bike as I just sold my Street Triple RS. I'm between a Harley SG or a Goldwing. But I think your honest video made me made my mind up for a GW. Just going to wait to buy a '24 model. Thanks for your honesty. I wish more UA-camrs were honest like you!. Just gained a new follower here.
@@ejseda6546 I appreciate it. The more bike weeks and biker events and riders that I talk with and correspond with on here I learn more information. I really boils down to knowing what you are going to get and the gamble of the purchase. For the price I absolutely know that you can’t get better than a Goldwing for the Goldwing price point which is lower than an HD. BMW and Indian are also very nice but Indian reminds me of more of the same HD. Honda Goldwing doesn’t imitate or try to be anything other than what it is. It sets the standards and raises the bar for way less. I feel 100% comfortable and reliability confident on road trips and on my HD I have had to say prayers the entire way that I make it without issues. My Road Glide is in the shop more than I have owned it off and on. The service intervals for a Goldwing are unmatched compared to HD and not to mention it takes regular 87 octane gasoline. I can’t say enough about it. But I still love H-D and still pending yet another purchase. The addiction is real even though I know what I’m in for.
I strongly recommend all HD riders to test the GW manual and DCT. Trust me, no return. Be open minded when you do so. I will never touch an HD even with a coupon for half off. No bike on the planet that can take you as far as you can go and you still smile in the end.
I can certainly understand that. I wish others would try the experience of riding other brands and types of bikes. I have friends so loyal to H-D that they refused to even take my Goldwing for a test ride.
@@ChrisGlidesthat’s because deep down their afraid to know how good the Goldwing really is because it may bring to light their fanboy mindset! 😅 When I had my Goldwing and Valkyries I used to roll up next to my friends on HDs a stop light and ask if their bike was running ok or if it was really supposed to shake like that!! 😅Still bothers me sometimes to sit at a light on my 2015 twincam and watch my hands and arms shake like they’re get ripped clear off the grips, but it’s very much part of the HD experiance… even if it does seem ridiculous!
True dat. I ride with a friend who is a longtime Harley rider. He’s now on a 2016 Road Glide Ultra and he tells me that he doesn’t want to go test ride a GW because he’s afraid he’ll dump his RG and buy a ‘wing. He was half joking and we had a good laugh, but he has a point.
I have a 22 Goldwing and a 23 Indian Cheiftain darkhorse. I tried to buy a Harley before I bought the Indian. Horrendous experiance. They were hustling me from the moment I walked in. They wanted nearly $39843 out the door on a Street glide special. They got every tactic in the book going at my local Harley Dealer And a salesmen refering to me owning a Goldwing as "Now you want a real bike" completly lost me as a customer forever. I went down the road and bought a more powerful,Better equipped and sprung Chieftain Dark Horse for 8 grand less. Greedy snobs.
I absolutely had the same experience and they didn’t know that I had several Harleys and other Motor other brand motorcycles before each time I purchase a Harley Davidson it’s a horrible experience no matter how good I know the sales people are no matter how good I know the people who work at the dealership or the type of rapport that I’ve had with the dealership from previous purchases. I made a UA-cam video of trying to get ripped off and I was very angry. The video remains on my webpage because it was a horrible experience even though two days later the dealership made it right. It’s just that knowing me all these years and all that time as a customer and then trying to rip me off was horrible I will post the link to that video after I replied to this message sorry for the mistake, but I’m replying by voice to text
I've had a 2023 Goldwing DCT for a month. I rode 200+ miles on both Saturday and Sunday this past weekend. The only thing I want to get for my bike is more comfortable grips. I'm a bigger guy and I wear a 4X glove. Towards the end of the second day of riding, I developed and slight ache in my right hand. I find the GWs grips a little too small for my hands.
Oh wow. I will pay attention to that and see if I notice that as well. Thank you for sharing that. Congratulations on the Goldwing. Please keep in contact.
@@ChrisGlides - Hey there! Just noticed this comment. This past week, I rode from Chicago to Marysville Tennessee with a budy of mine. We rode the Tail of the Dragon. 1600 miles round trip. Shortly after my previous comment, I got some Grip Puppies on the advice from my father. They only cost $20 and were easy to install. The trip to Tennessee and back on my Goldwing was wonderful. No complaints.
@@KurtisIsley Wow. That’s a good ride. My next video the I’m releasing is from last week. I rode mine through the Shenandoah mountains around the twisty roads and it carved through flawless with no effort. Hard to even capture any hard curves while on it since it went through so nice. I love it. I had on padded half finger gloves and my hands were ok. I will still look up the parts you mention. Good hearing from you. Please keep in contact. I appreciate you communicating. Thank you.
I’ve owned both brands. The Honda DCT Gold Wing is performance on another level. Sport mode is Hooligan mode. Motorcycling is so much an emotion, a vibe. With great choices out there, whatever makes you love what you see and the feel of the ride. That’s will be what is right for you. For me the DCT’s off the line quickness, seamless shifts and that unique Porsche flat six engine on acceleration with all the other tech you mentioned was enough for me. It doesn’t look too bad either. Perspective is absolutely right. Thank you.
it’s a Honda that should say everything right there is super reliable and it ain’t slow super good handling super modern motorcycle. And I love Harleys.!
I’ve come to learn there is no perfect bike. My 03 Valkyrie came close which is probably why I’ve owned 2 of them over the years. After almost 10 years on an Ultra classic I knew I wanted to try a sport touring bike after spending a couple years on a Concours 14. I eventually ended up on a K1600B over the wing really because of the deal I got and maybe right place right time kinda thing. I don’t think you could go wrong with either bike. I really just fell in love with the motor on the beemer. But after a couple years it was apparent we did not get along well with tall top heavy bikes. as a solo bike it was great I dealt with the nuances knowing every bike was a little different. But two up the “couch rocket” was a handful. moving down the road wasn’t so much the issue even though it never felt planted. There was always a little weaving or movement and it didn’t like dirty air at all. Nothing unsafe or unnerving but there none the less. But it was a pig in the parking lot and stop and go traffic. The least bit of inattentive behavior and it would reward you with the urge to tip over and for me that was exhausting with my wife on the back. So I ended up selling the B and was contemplating possibly a used bike to stay riding or maybe a trike. Stumbled across a good deal on a wing. And we drove up and rode it home. And it confirmed what I already knew. There’s no perfect bike but there are bikes that work better for certain riders. My first ride was almost 600 miles and this is my initial impressions. I’ll skip the dead horse topics such as windshield, seats, comfort etc.. However the wing is what everyone has said it is and more. First and foremost it’s stable. No wandering, weaving, wanting to tip over, dirty air affected me more than the bike. I noticed no difference in how the bike handled at any speed. I did Atlanta rush hour without a hiccup the DCT is amazing for stop and go traffic. With the BMW there seemed to be a dead spot with the linked brakes so using just the rear coming to a slow stop didn’t really work, forcing you to apply a little front brake which causes a wrestling match with the front wheel. But I digress. I’m not gonna repeat all the positives that have been discussed I’ll just concur it’s an amazing machine. I will leave on this note. This bike has restored my confidence in riding, I would not hesitate to take it down the road 10 minutes on an errand or 10,000 miles across the continent. I couldn’t say that for the B, If I wasn’t gonna be out more than an hour it stayed in the garage and I would pop the top on my Jeep for the short trips. Oh did I say I was going to keep this short….oops
I really appreciate the information that you provided. Thank you for the concurrence also. Over the past few months I have been riding other motorcycles and have a new perspective.
Totally on point as always, fam. As you know, I’m an HD owner and fan, but I love all bikes. I’ll say it to anyone who asks me: hands down, when it comes to comfort, dependability, and value for dollar, the GW beats the HD touring models, hands down. Yes, the GW might be a bit too refined for some riders, but at my age, if I’m traveling long distances, I want that comfort. I want those features like the heated seats/grips/adjustable windscreen standard, and not have to pay extra for them. I love HD. They’re my favorite bike. But I’m sick of this mindset that after you drop 20 large for a cruiser or 30 large on a touring model that you then have to turn around and drop more into it to get features that come standard on much lower priced bikes. We picked up my Wife’s Rebel 1100T yesterday. Comes stock with LEDs all around and ABS/cruise control. It’s an $11,000 bike. The Low Rider S which is an $18k bike does not come with LED turn signals. ABS is available, but it’s an $800 option. Cruise control is not available from the factory. It’s a $200 add on, but good luck finding it, they’re backed up everywhere. Even the HD backrest and sissy bar for my brand new RG3 is being quoted as delivery in November. My season is usually over by then. I need it now! We won’t even get into the new SE Tuner HD put out for sale that literally has NO TUNES available! Fact - if the GW came with bags like the HD touring ones (I really don’t like clamshell bags but could learn to live with them), and I could somehow get taller bars (or a riser) so I didn’t have to lean forwards and hurt my lower back on long rides, I’d own a GW right now. As is, my next bike is probably going to be an Africa Twin. So much tech in that bike, for thousands less than the Pan Am - which admittedly is an amazing bike. I agree on the engines too. To me, anything more than a Stage I or II on any HD is asking for potential problems. You’re just better off buying the crate motor instead. It’ll cost more, but you’ll save a lot in labor costs, and you’ll likely have a more reliable mill.
@@BlackBirdieGolf Thanks! She loves it! She passed the MSF Course in OH, but since we live in NY, they won’t accept it. So she’s going to take the road test. I have no doubt she’ll pass. We bought her a Honda Navi to practice on last spring. She did well with it, but even though it’s a mini-moto, the seat height was too high. The DCT in the 1100T will help a lot, she’s had her left knee scoped twice and has difficulty shifting the lever. I can’t wait to see what adventures we’ll get up to this summer together!
I ride an ultra classic but I really want to try a new goldwing, I love the looks, the adjustable windshield and I've never heard anyone complain about the ride and my HD isn't the best ride..to me, it takes a man, that rides a harley to admit when another machine is this good! Great job on your review!
I appreciate it. It was hard to admit and even harder to say in fear of losing subscribers and I was reluctant to fuel controversy. Riding on this last trip to Myrtle Beach I can say the HD ride made me wish I was on the Goldwing for comfort, safety, fuel price as it takes regular gas, no clutch as it’s automatic in traffic, and other safety features for rain as well as the peace of mind for reliability. 2 Harley-Davidsons on the trip mysteriously shut off while riding and they are well taken care of. My Road Glide Drank oil and made me very anxious feeling about something possible going wrong and not making it home. Of course I made it there and back but made a few HD stops. Paying for premium gas sucked as well. I am still tired from the ride and know with full confidence that I would have arrived way more relaxed if I took Goldwing. I’m ready to sell them all and replace with my collection being The Goldwing, BMW, Ducati, and Indian.
That’s what it’s all about. I don’t care what anyone is riding. If you’re in traffic facing the same dangers I am, I don’t care if you’re on a scooter, a trike, heck even a unicycle! 🤣 Brand snobbery has to stop. I love Harleys and most of the welcoming culture, but I’m not a fan of those who look down on others who ride something different. I’m a fan of technology. ABS saved my bacon more than once when I was a beginner. I wave at everyone and will be more than grateful to talk to anyone about their baby and their experiences. I’ve been riding for over 4 years now, but I’ll always consider myself a novice. I always want to learn, and that can come from anyone, anywhere. Doesn’t matter what you ride. If you ride, you’re family to me. 🤘
@@ThrottleFiend I agree. I have 4 harley riders on my block and they will teach me the ways of the road on my goldwing. most riders just want someone else to ride with to be honest.
Hey, you don't have to be a fan boy, but give em a go. I waited a looking Tim b4 l tried one, but l like em. Have a Honda ST1300, but the wing dct sounds awesome😊
Bro you made my day.. i have 2018 GW DCT, same color n all (except for the air bag). I ride in Harley Owners Group, wear all harley emblems, jacket etc, but ride my GW. They are always trying to convince me to shift to HD, but I dont think i will due to the obvious reasons you mentioned as well. ❤
I’m glad that you enjoyed it. I am looking forward to the next generation goldwing with a touchscreen update but until then I traded mine in for the new HD 23 Road Glide CVO because a touchscreen is a must for me and that was the deal breaker.
Outstanding video. Very good review. Here’s my take on it, Harley Davidson sells their tour bikes at pretty much the same price as a Goldwing. The problem is, Harley Davidson’s motorcycles are overpriced. The very first thing you pretty much have to do when you get one is change the suspension, change the seat, add handlebars, and add aftermarket exhaust. Whereas the Goldwing, which cost pretty much the same comes equipped standard with everything that I listed above. What are the biggest differences also, is the maintenance. The Goldwing will last 10 times as long, and have 10 times as many miles as a Harley Davidson any day all day. The Goldwing is in a class all on its own. It is luxury on wheels. 3x HD owner
I have a2021 DCT Tour and love it but agree with your comment regarding the tour pack not being easily removable. I had the kit on my HD Ultra and swapped back and forth frequently. Traxxion Dynamics in Florida has designed a kit for the GW but from what I have researched, it can take about 15-20 minutes to remove or reinstall, which for me seems like a hassle that would weigh in on actually swapping it on and off. BMW’s large tourers have their tour-packs set-up to easily take off or on. Also, the new GoldWings are very difficult to remove the plastic fairings and covers. Changing the air-filter can be a 2 hour job. Most first time removals of a cover or fairing involve a broken fastener point. Never had that sue with my Harleys. But when it comes to going out for a nice long ride and listening to your music, nothing better than these new 2018 to current GoldWings. Safe travels and thumbs up for a great honest review and a stable of Harleys to support your opinion.👍
Thank you. I appreciate it. Thanks for stopping by the channel. I was hoping that the 2024 GW would have included a touchscreen but didn’t. I plan on getting another one if they do a touchscreen. Until then the new bike on the review list is the 2024 BMW K1600
@ChrisGlides, you do not like it because it does not have touchscreen? It sounds like you finally discovered a reason to give why you don't like it, lol! 😂
I’m right with you. Some days like now I’m looking at the clock and wondering if I could get there before they close and trade in all 3 HD’s for one GW. lol. 😂 just wondering if the 2025 GW will be different so that’s my holdup.
I have a Harley cruiser but will be getting a Goldwing instead of a road glide. The dealers at Harley do not know how to sell a bike. They think a jacked up MSRP will still sell because its a Harley and they are just bad in general trying to get every dime. Once you get past the stigma of owning a Harley you realize its not the best bike. Its inferior in many ways.
I agree. It’s a very addictive brand based on excellent marketing strategies, events, activities, stores, the population of other owners, etc. Damn. I just talked myself in a trip to Harley-Davidson store. Lol. I am a Harley-Davidson product addict.
I own a Road Glide special and havent had any trouble. I just did stage 1 to get some better sound out of it. I love my Harley but I had an old 84 Wing that was very reliable. Harleys are getting too expensive though. Really a Wing isnt exactly cheap either. I will say that the new Wing looks really cool to me and I like the facr they arent trying to be anything other than what they are. They set out to make a great bike and did. I do agree however that they should sell a docking kit for the tour pack so you could take it off easy when not on a trip.
I appreciated reading this. Thank you. Excellent points. I did find the docking kit for it to remove the tour pack. Very expensive and a very involved process to install. I’m up for the challenge but since it’s not an everyday bike It’s low ion my list the get. I want it but the price and process puts it low on the priority list. I would certainly do it if it were my only bike but even then the price and processes. It would hurt one time and go away but. Lol. I will say this about Harley and all other bikes. Harley-Davidson needs an addiction hotline and other companies don’t. Lol.
I was very impressed with your evaluation of the bike. I also agree that Harley has a culture behind it. I ride a Goldwing and love it. I also like the Harley because of the culture. If you can only have one, you have to make a choice. I love to jump on a bike and go and not have to worry if it is going to break down. I like to go on long rides myself and I enjoy the piece of mind that I ride something that is reliable. 90 percent of the people I ride with ride Harley's. They also know how much I fix mine and how much they fix there's. I have not looked at new Honda in like 14 years. When I bought one they had a factory warranty of 3 years and extended warranty for 5 years for a total of 8. Unlimited miles. Also the warranty went with the bike not the owner. I do not know if Honda still offers this?? I believe you are spot on with your review. You buy what you want to ride. My dad told me something when I was 16 and I bought my first car. I said to him everybody says it is a good deal. I had butterflies going on. He told me. Come tomorrow, they do not have to fix it or keep it up. After he said that, they all went away.
One thing you forgot to mention about the heated seat on the GW was the passenger and driver can individually control their area on the seat. Traxxion sells a kit that makes your rear trunk removable to give you the bagger look.
Oh yeah. You are correct. I can’t wait for to buy another Goldwing. Was waiting on a 2024 until they announced no changes. So looks like I will wait for a 2025. I’m looking for a touchscreen and even more power and new design that’s not same as previous years. I will certainly get the next generation GW.
@@ChrisGlides I was reading that they might be adding that adapt cruise control unit I think it was. They do need(to me) update the nave unit on the bike seems very dated..the motor I think has power they just limit it on the computer.
@@alsaint7944 I can’t wait. The GW is a MUST own bike. Every Garage should own one. I wish HD came out with an exact same model type as the GW with same mechanical features, touchscreen, motor, and transmission type. That way it would be service centers everywhere throughout America 🇺🇸. Certainly many would switch over to have that model and design but have an American one with the iconic Harley-Davidson name. OMG that would be everything.
I own a Harley and a Honda...My Harley Street Glide collects dust mostly since I purchased the 2023 GoldWing Tour DCT...Each time I ride the street glide it shakes, rattles, makes all sorts of engine clanks and after riding the wing I find the Harley severely under powered..Its a different ride...Last but not least the Harley requires Premium gas where the Goldwing runs on Regular.
Yes. Those just a few of the things that I talk about when I tell others about the Goldwing. If they ever make one with a touchscreen then I will certainly be purchasing it.
You have a fantastic collection of bikes, and sportscar!!!! Fantastic! So happy for you my friend! 👌 Fantastic comparison btw. not a lot can do such comparisons - awesome!
BTW, that oil issue sounds like that oil sumping issue, I know this almost 10 months old, but I would have that checked. It sounds like you have something really wrong with that build, the 131 shouldn’t consume oil like that.
@@Steve-qn8gn Yeah. Frustrating experience and at least I know now what to suggest someone check if it happens to anyone else. Changed everything but that out of pocket a few times and finally found mechanics at HD Quantico, VA to inspect everything with entire engine break down. The Guys at HD of DC replaced everything and put it all together again like humpy dumpty. Right before the H-D homecoming. I have a video of the hd homecoming ride and that got the bike together late night before the long trip so that I didn’t have to take the Honda to a Harley Event. I will be getting another Goldwing again. Hopefully one day they will have a full touch screen.
Great perspective from you. I've been seriously considering a Goldwing. I now have an Ultra Classic and a Triumph Bobber chrome edition. I love them both but Dct is interesting.
I hope this video helps you make your decision. DCT is a game-changer. I have been brand loyal for a while but I have spent time riding many other brand bikes. I can freely admit that the Honda Goldwing is the best bike in the world. I will purchase another in the future and my only wish is that they could have touch screen features. Its minor but I like touching my screen. I believe its set up like that for safety and even though I dont touch my screen much its still something that Im used to from my HD and from riding in the car if I want to so. I need that function. There is not a noticable difference not having the touch screen but when I owned the new HD CVO with the new infotainment screen then that small thing made me go with the CVO. The Goldwing was way more comfortable, reliable, more band for buck, felt faster and more powerful, had better miles per service interval, takes regular gas, and standard heated seat and grips, with push button adjustable windshield, reverse, center stand, forward crawl, and paddle shifters. The cherry on top was that It had an airbag.
@@boogie1354absolutely not. They have been out for years and has no effect on touch screen. See this video of my on CVO in Rain. ua-cam.com/video/3uTViRTlTzI/v-deo.htmlsi=bIRlyVtMQlixJUl_
Chris I ride a 2019 Harley Davidson Electra glide fully dressed touring bike and I love the bike but I road a 2023 Goldwing and I love all the advanced technology that the Goldwing offers when your spending 35,000$ for a motorcycle I want all the latest technology included with my purchase so I’m definitely considering the Goldwing, Chris thank you for your video and ride safe and be healthy 😊
Thank you. I appreciate it. I loved the Goldwing and I want all the technology as well. My decision to trade it for the 2023 CVO Road Glide was based on the technology of the more than foot long touchscreen TFT. I will purchase another Goldwing when a new generation comes out with a touchscreen and smoother transition of connectivity in regards to music specifically Apple car play. H-D’s newest generation still struggles with that in the exact same area for iPhones connecting to bike needing Bluetooth headset
Guys: we will spend 100,000 on toys, to put in a garage with unfinished/ unpainted walls, because, it will cost $500.00, and cut into our riding time!😆Women may not ever understand.
I’ve owned an 1800 Goldwing, two Honda Valkyries, even a very rare Valkyrie Rune, along with two HD Road Glides. There is no doubt the Hondas, especially the Goldwing, are much better built, more refined, better designed, better handling, better suspension, better equipped, faster, better brakes, more reliable, and all for significantly less money. The only problems with the Goldwing are #1, it has no soul! There’s just something about HD that talks to the inner machismo. #2, the seating position just feels like your a nerd. #3, there is no real sense of belonging to a community. And, #4, the killer for my wife is the total lack of sexy apparel! She never really liked the Goldwing because she said the back seat was just too big and too far away and felt isolated from the driver. Love my Road Glide, but it’s really not in the same league as the Honda in most areas but it’s the one I ride!
First off i would say, "ride what ever trips your trigger",...I've been riding for over 50 years on many different brands of bikes and not a single one of them had a soul including HD. I found the HD's to be nothing but just another motocycle, only the name on the gas tank makes them stand out, and to many, that seems to be more important then the ride or the bike. As far as the community, when one rides an HD, one is actually just another part of the herd, but it is the ticket to be accepted. #4 is totally objective.
good in-depth review. I like the Goldwing and if I traveled 40k a year on a bike I would have 1. Its an awesome machine and you cant take anything away from it. I agree about the and culture and I like that as well. its nice to be able to have both
I appreciate that! Thank you. I really can’t afford it and leaves me with no spending money. I just like doing reviews and YouTubing the results. I’m addicted to bike life so blowing all the money on bikes is my drug of choice. If I get more followers and content viewers I could earn more funds to do more reviews. For now the small $100 per month I make doing content is gas money. But it’s a love and fun relationship.
Great video as always Chris. We have very similar backgrounds, military, motorcycles, cars, bicycles etc. I've owned over 30 motorcycles; been riding since 1985. First motorcycle, 1980 Honda CB750 F Super Sport (Silver). Currently own (3) Harleys and BMW R1250 GS. Owned a 2018 Gold Wing DCT in Ardent Red. Really enjoyed the bike. Took it on a long distance trip from Maryland to ATL and then to Birmingham, AL. The only thing I would change would be the seat for those rides that last for more than (3) hours. Sold the GW, however looking to pick up the 2024 GW Tour manual; not DCT in the near future. All American Harley is my local HD dealership. Might run into you on any given Saturday/Sunday. Ride safe. Thanks for your service.
I appreciate you visiting the channel and I look forward to meeting you. I really love the Goldwing but wish that it came with a touchscreen. A touch screen for me and gadgets keeps me satisfied.
@@ChrisGlides , I must agree reference to the touch screen. I was hoping Honda would change that up; but it will probably take a total redesign. I couldn't resist picking up the 2024 Gold Wing Tour; manual transmission. I just posted the first impressions video ua-cam.com/video/SVRlqDSCAt8/v-deo.html Ride safe.
Chris, I am so happy to have stumbled onto your site. Amazing how similar my thinking is to yours. I currently ride a 22 Road King Classic. I love so much about it and truly do appreciate the sense of “belonging” in the Harley family but have always appreciated Honda and am extremely intrigued by the DCT. Four quick questions: 1. Are you still a fan of the DCT? 2. I’m 6’2" and 215 and am somewhat concerned that I’ll be cramped on the Goldwing? 3. Do you think the Goldwing could be used as an everyday type of bike or is it mainly a long-trip type of bike? 4. My Road King is air cooled and as a result, runs so hot that at times, I’m certain that I’m going to burn my ass. Do you notice a difference with a liquid-cooled engine? Thanks so much!
Liquid cooled run cooler unless you add a 131 stage four like I have in the limited. My Goldwing was the best bike on a hot day or a heavy traffic day. No heat. My 2023 1/2 CVO has the new wet head engine that have cooling coils throughout the heads and other areas. Goldwing can be used for a daily for sure especially running on regular unleaded and requiring less and longer maintenances schedule, no gear shifting in bumper to bumper traffic, has the slow crawl feature, brak hold on hills, also the raise and lower windshield for more or less air, and more visible bike in traffic. Goldwing is top of the line however Honda lacks nationwide dealership networks that HD has for Road Trips if you want or need service or to simply stop in for coffee and dont have the weekend or daily cool events. As far as your height you can get a seat for taller people and extend your foot controls and add handlebar risers. I think the DCT is the best one can ride especially if you have joint or muscular issues or other disabilities. I think that it would be a great idea for H-D to make the next CVO Limited a DCT option with reverse and H-D styling but no slacking on the way it comes accessorized by actually going all out with everything. Im sure H-D enthusiast would pay up to $80k to have it all. It would put Honda out of business. HD was a win for me based on the new 12" touch screen. Honda had everything except a touch screen.
@@ChrisGlides thanks so much for taking the time to respond, Chris. Very helpful! I did hear from a buddy that works at Honda that the ‘25 Wing will have a touch screen but we’ll see if that’s true. Hopefully Harley has finally started to realize that they need to lose their sense of invincibility and give the riders what they want. I have a feeling that they will be a laggard in the DCT world but at least they are responding with liquid cooled engines and competitive technology. Last question if you don’t mind: why did you sell your Goldwing?
I thought that the 2024 was going to have a touchscreen and I traded this one for the new model CVO because I liked the new 12” touchscreen and it was a new model and trending at the time. I will get another DCT Goldwing for sure if they come out with a touchscreen. If HD comes out with a DCT with reverse and touchscreen in a CVO model then it’s what I will purchase. See the attached two videos for the saga
Nice video, like you I have both Harley and Goldwing. My 2012 Goldwing is definitely great for shorter guys. I think the service on Goldwing is every 4k and Harley every 5k.
I appreciate it. Thanks for the info! I love the GW. Looking to get the newer next generation whenever they come out with a touchscreen and other upgrades.
Never owned either bike, Honda or HD. BMW owner but I would say Honda hands down in terms of reliability and less maintenance than HD. That is a known fact.
Yes. Absolutely correct. However I need a touch screen. So the Honda is 95% great and the other 5% wasn’t what was a must for me so it had to go until they have a touchscreen.
@@ChrisGlides Why not wait till they come up with Telepathic commands :-) You young guys are obsessed with technology. Are you riding or surfing the web.
@@AB-hx9hs actually they will use AI in all new technologies. Pairing with its data and satellite technology. Smart infotainment is what’s installed in new cars and bikes like my new CVO. Wow...guy owns more than one HD because he KNOWS there are ongoing "issues" service related bla blah blah. HA! And this guy spends a ton of dough on all the silly HD "stuff!" HD has got to keep guys like this happy. Think he's got local HD Service Mgr on speed dial? By comparison, how many Goldwing owners own more than one because THEY KNOW the bike needs constant attention? Very funny stuff. Seems like a nice guy, wish him all the best and hope he had a good trip on his Harley. Honda couldn't ask for a better testimonial!
Yes indeed. You couldn’t be more correct. H-D is addictive and more of the same but there are millions of guys like me that still buy all they everything and continue to buy the bikes and anything they sell no matter what. Yep. It’s a real addiction. I loved the goldwing and guess what I did. Keep looking at more videos and you will see for yourself. I appreciate your comments. A Harley addict is like a drug addict. No matter how back it is for you; you will still buy another one. H-D for Life. I took that pretty new Goldwing and purchased another pretty Harley. 😂 I will still buy another Goldwing one day. It was 95% perfect. The only thing it didn’t have was a touch screen. That 5% was my most important thing to have. So when Goldwing gets a touchscreen then I will buy two or three of them. One in each color and one without a tour pack. Many Goldwing owner have multiple bikes my friend I’m sure you know that and many Goldwing owners do have multiple Goldwing or other Honda bikes. Honda crazy as well. Keep in touch please. Keep watching and I’m here for the fun and the ride. I will ride and buy anything so stay tuned. Whatever bike is trending I’m here for the purchase and public review.
I’ve owned both at the same time, for a couple of years. The Gold Wing was the better ride. After 2 years I decided that after almost 3 decades I was finally going to be done with HD and sold the Ultra Limited. After 3 weeks with just the Wing, I was back on HD with a Road Glide Limited, and sold the Wing 3 months later. Second bike now is a GSA - it’s a great bike, but now I’m looking at the Wing again. Bottom line is, there is no perfect motorcycle - they all do some things better than others. Did you sell the Wing?
That’s similar to many people who own both. Back and forth. I traded it to HD for CVO and they still have it. I tried to buy it back but communication took too long so I gave up on it. 3 H-DS now.
After reviewing hundreds of videos and riding with many many Harleys, riding a few myself, I have not figured out why anyone would ride a harley. Price, ride, cost of accessories and the bike itself is just insane, oh and repairs is just stupid. Why??? I have not figured that out. American made. Yes you can say that, but it's kind of embarrassing to have a bike like that built in USA. Sorry just what I'm seeing. Only thing I like about the harley is accessories are a mile long. You can get anything for those bikes. Of course at a cost.
It’s a little true but mostly. If Harley actually took the same GW and made a Harley edition everyone would get the Harley edition. Not many is passing up the H-D culture and shop availability and the amount of store locations, merchandise, and events for a Honda Goldwing even if it is determined to be better. I’m my video I did admit it was better but no one cares who owns a Harley that the Goldwing is better. H-D could fall apart every 4 months and there are Harley owners who would still never go Goldwing but most GW owners would go Harley. It’s like this. Gucci products cost more but it doesn’t mean that it’s better quality than Michael Kors it’s just going to cost more for the name and popularity. Honda GW is nice but it’s an affordable, can get anywhere anytime Michael Kors. People are always now going to pick Nike over Reebok or Puma. GW is Reebok or Puma and Harley is Nike. Same purpose of an athletic shoe but people are still going to go with Nike no matter if Reebok has a shoe that Pumps up. Goldwing is like Sketchers 😂 Great shoe but only for a select group. If Goldwing would ever get a touchscreen then I will get another one. I will get another goldwing one day when they add a touchscreen. It was 95% perfect but no touchscreen and I was a deal breaker for me. Rides better than any other bike made, fast, smooth, and amazing. Takes regular gas and the maintenance schedule is less. More reliable bike. There are two major UA-camrs who have hundreds of videos for the Goldwing how to do’s. As far as being an HD owner I think that you would still need to own an HD. Nice video fyi there are quick disconnect from traxion and the kuryakyn floor boards are nice I tripped mine out quite a bit. Also I own a 2023 palisade the wing rides smoother lol
Thank you. I appreciate the information. I am about to start looking for the quick disconnect for the tour pack and floor boards. The GW is the smoothest bike out. I’m glad that I took the challenge and decided to try something new. I have Harley friends that refuse to even just try riding it. They are stuck on the HD brand. On one of my videos prior to us riding his HD didn’t work so I wanted to let him use one of my other bikes and he would only use a HD not the GW. I would love to see the bike culture change to see people honestly try other machines without bias.
@@ChrisGlides1st time viewer here Chris, really njoyd the vid and your thoughts. Nice garage and 'fleet'. The little things like the key fob/ actual key and the turn off battery saver feature. Gotta try a goldwing soon. Cheers.👍
Nice video and bike collection. I've had a few HDs, loved them. Had some Japanese muscle bikes and really loved those. I currently have a Triumph 1050 Sport, very comfortable and sweet to ride but....I really want a Goldwing and will have one. I like it standard, no extra bling. Red looks great , i really like the black version. Keep the vids coming. 🇬🇧
I appreciate it. Thank you for watching. More videos to come. I will be on the Goldwing all end of August and September. I wish I could sell you mine. I love it but I don’t ride much. Still under 1,000 miles. My group rides are all HD bikers. I have it to ride for pleasure.
It’s cool. I enjoyed it on my Harley-Davidson Livewire 3 years ago. Goldwing is great but without new touchscreen technology I am going to wait to buy another one. I will get another Goldwing if the next generation has more features and functionality. I hated the buttons and the Apple car play not connected with headset and other electronic functions. To me they all cruise and have storage and you sit and wait to get to a destination so the important things that are a must for me is the gadgets and cool factors for accessories, functions, clothes, stores, and mechanical shops. I also like the HOG membership. The bike is the smallest part of the experience in ownership. Good or bad mechanically or reliably H-D provides the better overall full spectrum experience in ownership. Goldwing is a smother and faster bike that allows automatic but you get over that by saying so what it’s better. Lol. Having both eliminates the battle but I found myself riding the Harley’s more and my GW parked.
Goldwings are mind blowing amazing however. I was banking on a new design in 2024 with a touchscreen and other additional features. For 2024 there was nothing new for several years now so I sold mine for hardly nothing and lost thousands but win some lose some. Freaking amazing machine and 95% perfectl to me but I really wanted the touchscreen and couldn’t go without it as electronics are on my top priority for vehicles.
You have nice toys sir, snd they're all spotless. Ive been riding for 50 years. On metric bikes for the first 20, then i bought my first Harley. I remember saying to my brother, it is different riding a Harley. Its the culture thing you mentioned. Im on my 6th Harley, an Electra glide Limited. I love my Harleys, but i really like the look of that 23 Goldwing. Its a beautiful machine. Great videos! Thanks.
I certainly understand. I would always have GW owners taunting me and from the HD side always downing the GW. I didn’t understand the rivalry so a very popular thread has been to buy both and see for myself and share the thoughts. Just as many owners customize their GW as HD people and GW also has a following. I liked the GW and didn’t feel the need to add accessories at all and loved it plain. I sold my GW because I like electronics and modern technology and the non touch screen was the deal breaker for me. I will get another one when they come out with a touch screen and more rider assist features. H-D bikes are always a relationship. You certainly need to have the network of shops and parts available because they always need service or warranty work for sure. You can always count on an HD being temperamental and unreliable but I guarantee you will still love it in the process and really want it to work at all cost. H-D is an addiction that should require having a help hotline. You won’t get that in other motorcycles. It’s Love/Hate
after i rode the new 2023 goldwing i went hom ekicked my 2021 harley ultra classic in the ass and sold it and bought the gold wing. i have been riding harleys since i was 16 i am 69 yrs old now(yikes) have owned it for 6 months now love it. besides the goldwing can go over 300000 miles harley? maybe 2-3000 miles before it is back in the shop
Lol. I am absolutely laughing and love this comment. You are absolutely right. Grady my 21 Road Glide has lived in the shop longer than I’ve owned it. I have had my Goldwing since March I think or sometime this year and since I’ve had my RG in the shop 4 times not to include me fixing things as well. HD is a Great community and culture and comrades but the bikes are not as reliable as I wish for them to be and totally behind on availability technology, updates and upgrades. However, they are the American Icon. Gotta love the sound and gotta love them like a problem child. It’s a love hate relationship.
Nice review. I'm working a deal on a new Wing now. Thinking I may wait until the 2024 is announced. If you want a good comparison on ride and performance of the Wing, check out the Indian Pursuit. In my opinion, those are the 2 top touring bikes available right now. Just signed up on your channel. Looking forward to more reviews and information.
You have some nice vehicles. Life is good. I really like the Goldwing. I have had three Harley's. Currently have a Kawasaki Concours and a Triumph Street Triple R. I think my next bike is going to be a Goldwing. Thanks for the video.
Right on! I appreciate it. Thank you. The Goldwing is top tier however, the only thing missing is a touch screen. That would be the best future update.

The Goldwing , though made by Honda , was originally made in the USA , and designed for USA TOURING ,, which at that time there wasn't anything here so its kinda a USA creation made in the first days right here by the American Honda factory . I am wondering how anyone can afford all those bikes and car etc......I have been wondering how I can find 10,000 dollars , I am a Vet Viet Nam , and live on 100 compensation , as well as retirement money here in NETHERLANDS .....the retirement money here is just enough to pay my rent and bills with very little left over, if I did not receive compensation , I could hardly get a Holliday , in fact I have had only one Holliday in 50 years I think? After riding with bikers who have owned every model it is safe to say that all bikes have issues and every company will have issues with customer service and or warranties. My take from owning several varieties of bike is that although HD comes with a big price and a bad rep; It also comes with history from 1903. H-D is actually all about the culture but even when you aren't about all that I can say that when riding all over the country that there is always and H-D dealership that I can stop at and meet new people and share experiences and stories. I can also guarantee that I will see other H-D rider who will always stop and talk. Owning an H-D creates a fraternal experience more so than any other brotherhood. Owning an H-D is having a piece of the American pie. Its an American Icon. Anything that comes with a big name (Gucci, Prada, LV, Rolex), comes with a big price tag, however its not always better (Compared to cheaper), but the experiences that you will gain from owning an HD is priceless no matter how much you pay. Each time that you ride you can guarantee that someone watching you ride by will be thinking about the guy they saw on a Harley that looked cool and free.

Man I hope I'm as sucessful as you when I get to be your age. I'm 30 years old and feel like I will be if I keep going at this pace. Were you able to afford any of those $30,000 bikes at my age?
I started doing buy, rebuild, trade and selling at 14 year old. I could never afford and still can't really. The important thing to know is that many of us UA-cam guys doing this are either totally addicted and financially irresponsible or crazy. With that said there are many times when you spend more on the remodel or rebuild than the bike is worth and you lose out. When I started off I found an extremely rare car and restored it and sold it because I was too young to drive it. I should have started youtube years ago and viewers could have seen way more and way better content with Cars and Bikes. I've not done any cars now on the chanel and far as bikes I did a video about three months ago that show you how to buy a lower price brand new HD and convert it to your own. It's the Road King that I have been doing. You can buy a new police model overstock from HD at your local dealership. It won't come with anything but Its a good bike to renovate. But There are guys selling good HD for $3,000 to $13,000 and weather you buy new or used you are going to put your design and style into it anyway. Start there. But at 30 I did spend all my money buying bikes and cars as an addiction and remained financially irresponsible but have had fun along the way. I've spent grocery money for car and bike parts. The Addiction is real. Keep in contact. Check out this video. I got this bike for $20K and put $2k down. The bike is totally different now as I have remodeled it. Still wouldn't buy the latest version of the Gold wing. The older versions look better. I couldn't see any world in which I would buy a Harley at all. I have owned several Hondas never had a Goldwing but if I did get one I would be looking for a nicer looking version than the 2023 it just reminds me of an over grown Deauville or Pan European. Gold wing used to stand out, but they have lost their charm. But still way better than a Harley anything.
The nice thing about the goldwing 🇺🇲 is you can purchase your warranty later from any dealer and find a cheap price for the same warranty 💲💲 SAVE BIG TIME 💲💲 AVERAGE PRICE $500 💲💲
Very true! The Goldwing is unmatched!!!! I am looking forward to getting another one. I’m interested in seeing further technology upgrades and improvements and wishing for a release of a touchscreen model.
You can’t put a price on the American Dream and American Icon. Gucci cost more than Michael Kores. Nike cost more than Payless shoes. Anything named brand cost more.
Goldwing is an excellent bike. I had a 2021 Goldwing Touring. I will get another one - DCT next time. In my opinion, the 23 CVO VVT rides just like the Goldwing.
Yeah. Some people will put way too much on bikes and cars. People like customizing their stuff though. I like mine stock for now. I don’t want it to look tacky. I don’t even want a luggage rack but need one if I use my luggage that needs to strap to it. Want to keep it looking more sporty than touring. It’s a new style machine that some make look like the older models.

I strongly agree with you. I appreciate it.
I have both.. and for long distance riding, Goldwing without a doubt but I love the classic look of my 2018 FLHTKSE.
When I had my Goldwing and Valkyries I used to roll up next to my friends on HDs a stop light and ask if their bike was running ok or if it was really supposed to shake like that!!

Thank you.
Hey Chris once again thank you for your honest opinion and review.
I appreciate your support and glad I could help.
Thank you.
I appreciate it and totally agree with you.
it’s a Honda that should say everything right there is super reliable and it ain’t slow super good handling super modern motorcycle. And I love Harleys.!
I agree. Thank you. I appreciate you coming by.
95hp is not a lot...
@@focohustla 😂
I ride Harley’s but still love the Goldwing
Same here. Nothing like an H-D
The Rebel is a great bike. Congrads!
I totally agree and will comment more later. I appreciate it. Out at an event and want to read more about what you wrote. Thank you.
Get a nicer sissy bar from: www.siouxicidechoppers.com/
Check out harpers sissy bar. Very nice. Is from suixicidechoppers. But look at Harpers: ua-cam.com/video/25gGvuf2N7U/v-deo.html
The remarks by other riders as to the effectiveness of the wind screen is demonstrated at 10:37, by your jacket. It's unbuttoned, but barely moving!
I appreciate it. Thank you 🙏🏾
Check in the prepaid maintenance for your Wing. When I got my Rebel 1100T I was able to get it. Saved me almost $200 on first service.
I appreciate it. I will check.
I just want to ride bro. As a new rider, I just want to focus on traffic and the scenery! The Goldwing is a beast! I was never a fan boy of Harleys.
That’s what it’s all about. I don’t care what anyone is riding. If you’re in traffic facing the same dangers I am, I don’t care if you’re on a scooter, a trike, heck even a unicycle! 🤣
Brand snobbery has to stop.
BlackBirdie..... that means you do not have pirate wannabe syndrome ! lol
Man! Stay with the wing! 🪽, stay away from HD. That’s all I can say!
3x HD owner
You're absolutely right about the Goldwing's standard features and value for the price.
@@hennies9509 😂 you got me. Yeah. I’m going to get another one for sure though.
@@ChrisGlides When you hit the throttle on the BMW you may be surprised
I own both Harley an GW. I find myself working on Harley an riding my GW. But I like them both.
Lol. Me also and everyone else that I met say the same thing. One sick kid in the house and one to play with and hunt outside.
Exactly! Remember HD stands for $ Hundred Dollars!
Thanks. I think I’m close to giving up my Street Glide for a DCT Wing. This commentary helps a lot. I have a lot of tee shirts though.😂
I’m right with you. Some days like now I’m looking at the clock and wondering if I could get there before they close and trade in all 3 HD’s for one GW. lol. 😂 just wondering if the 2025 GW will be different so that’s my holdup.
@agreatdaytoride7116 yup own Roadking and GL1800 like both the wing crushes miles.
Yup got a ton of HD tee shirts lol..
The bike doesn't know.
@Chris Glides & Lowrides The first step of addiction is admitting you have one. I have a Harley too but, the juice is not worth the SQUEEZE
Update, I bought a road glide 23'... Now going to buy a used goldwing. Then I'm done
You know if any used GW in the MD area please let me know
I own a Road Glide special and havent had any trouble.
Thank you. I appreciate it. Please keep in contact.
Love from DeKalb Mississippi USA 🇺🇲
Fantastic comparison btw. not a lot can do such comparisons - awesome!
I appreciate it. Thank you. I do reviews and sell right away. Now days many of those from this video are gone or changed out. More to come.
BTW, that oil issue sounds like that oil sumping issue, I know this almost 10 months old, but I would have that checked. It sounds like you have something really wrong with that build, the 131 shouldn’t consume oil like that.
It was all replaced and repaired under warranty. Turned out to be a bad waffle ring. All great now.
@@ChrisGlides wow, crazy. So you were actually burning it. Glad it was fixed.
@ChrisGlides I'm just wondering if rain on a touch screen would make it inoperable. Maybe that's why Honda haven't gone to a touch.
@@boogie1354absolutely not. They have been out for years and has no effect on touch screen. See this video of my on CVO in Rain. ua-cam.com/video/3uTViRTlTzI/v-deo.htmlsi=bIRlyVtMQlixJUl_
@ChrisGlides In that case, if Honda is listening to there customer base an upgrade will be coming soon. I'll check it out. Motor with care.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 True
@@mikesokolow7997 man that’s funny making me laugh, but how realistic that really is👍
I can’t wait to get in to riding! The Goldwing is my dream bike! Bravo on your collection!
You will not be disappointed.
Thank you. I appreciate it.
🤣That is the best way I have ever heard this stated. Excellent. I am going to use this.
I agree about the and culture and I like that as well. its nice to be able to have both
Absolutely
Brother 🙌 you are awesome love that have a life where you can afford both and give a real perspective..
No worries man, the proof is in the pudding. Goldwings are altimate bikes.
Yes
I will most likely try and get my 23 GW back as it’s still at the same HD dealership where I traded it. HD owners won’t touch it. I don’t understand.
Next week I may be preparing to showcase an all new all electric touring bike. Stay tune. Can’t leak anymore info.
I think u right about a built up motor its not gonna last as long putting Xtra stress on bottom end those Harleys dyno low 90s stock thats good enough
I agree
Ahh, retired military. The Marines, was the best 4 yr vacation I ever had. I was not smart enough to stay. in!😆
Thank you for your Sacrifice, Mind, Heart, Soul, and Spirit. Semper Fi
3 H-DS now.
Right tool for the right job. You’ll always need one more motorcycle than you’ve got!!
What does the Harley do better than the wing? No troll, just genuine curiosity?
YES In every way possible
Great review and I appreciate the openess. ✊🏾
Thank you. 🙏🏾
You can never give up your piece of the American Dream and American Pie. Owning an HD is taking the good with the bad. It is an American Icon. On July 4th or Veterans Day riding with American 🇺🇸 flags on bike must be done on an HD. Cross country trip include stops and an HD dealership or several in each state. The dealer stops include motivation and a conversation with a stranger yet a new friend just because they are also on an HD. All the t shirts and poker chip and dealerships coffee and staring at new and old showroom models. You will never get that from Goldwing ownership. Each trip on an HD is another beer story and an adventure. As far as the price. It’s no different that paying a lot for Gucci vs. Michael Kores or Nike vs. Payless shoes or Target. When you buy named brand it cost more. Same as Starbucks coffee or 7/11 coffee. H-D cost more and is cooler because of all the other merchandise it has. People don’t hang out at the Honda dealership or go from Honda dealership to dealership looking for shirts or coins. H-D also has the Harley Owners Group or HOG Chapters.

you can take the goldwing to harley events. I follow other channels that do that.
Nice, swap out for the new bagger version, no throne though!
I think the Wing will be my next bike.
It’s a damn good choice. You won’t regret it.
The DCT is the biggest feature for me....years ahead of the rest.
Nice Video!!! I am looking at geting a Goldwing myself.... You go Nupes!!!!

Go and rent one and do a big trip on it. That way you’ll learn more and not be massively out of pocket if it isn’t the right bike for you!!
