I always thought it was because that’s what everyone called his show no one ever said they’re watching late night with Conan or the tonight show with Conan everyone used to just say I’m watching Conan..
I think Conans story is always going to be a bit somber because he feels a bit like the guy who was so close but never quite got to the top, for a lot of reasons.
Getting canned from NBC was the best thing that ever happened for him. He did his best work in the years following. TBS have him complete creative control!
One thing that did kind of hurt him was the fact that a lot of famous bits he did on NBC were scrapped when he went to TBS. But he made up for it in other ways by starting up regular bits like the Clueless Gamer. I have wondered one thing though. Even on his last week on TBS he never once (as far as I know) even mentioned Norm, not even including him in a montage of past clips from the show. From what I've gathered online it appears that at some point a few years ago he said something publicly that got some controversy which would explain his absence from the show the past few years. But I've wondered if this was a decision made by Conan or if this was a TBS decision.
I just watched this after Conan's final tonight show monologue. He had a bit in there about how sometimes in life things just have to end a decade too soon. Now I'm watching this and thinking about how his last show was a couple weeks ago. So he managed 11 years on TBS after things ended '1 on NBC, something a bit poetic about that. I don't think Conan's the kind of guy who would have cared about making a bit less money as long as he was comfortable and doing something he loved, so in the end it all worked out for the dude.
I have a terrible memory and forgot about all the Conan/Leno drama, but re-watching this monologue now at 32 years old has brought it all back. This man is such a great entertainer.
“O’Brien the day you get your own talk show is the day there’s peace in the Middle East.” Coco brought peace to north, south, east and west! The WORLD!🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡👑👑
Conan is the best late night talk show host of all time. His very first episode of late night was ridiculously meta before meta was popularized. He went out on a limb to do his style of humor when he could have easily conformed to what other hosts had done before. He was also behind some of my favorite simpsons characters and stories. Conan is an American treasure, he has contributed so much to the evolution of comedy.
@@Alex-956 Yup! Conan hired her as his assistant when he moved to California to do The Tonight Show. He just kept her through losing Tonight, through his TBS show
The GOAT of late night TV. I've never really been one to get starstruck but going to his show when I was in America and even just seeing him and Andy from the audience seats, it felt surreal.
That’s what I noticed about the man. Even in before his first appearance on stage on tour. He was so scared...even after countless appearances in front of millions for decades. No other talk show man has been this vulnerable to all.
@@lickitysplit3575 I believe that he once said on the show that his wife didn't like the beard and made him shave it off around 2012 and that's why it hasn't been seen since.
This was a great show. Too bad that Conan and Company could not sustain higher viewing levels. Poor/inconsistent lead-ins were probably the major problem. This show was well produced.
This is Conan at the height of his powers in my book. His whole time at NBC he was waiting and struggling to get to Tonight Show host. After NBC screwed him over, he said F U, rose from the ashes as his own man, and knocked it out of the freaking park. NBC was only holding him back.
He predicted everyone on the internet are rabbits, *crunching on a carrot*..... woah no waaaaayyyy.... Just kidding I never eat carrots, I am a staunch unhealthy eater. Have a lovely day! Yea CONAN!
"Some people ask why I named the show Conan. I did it so I'd be harder to replace." That's a flawless opener.
didn't work for Roseanne lol

Is there a famous Jack Grey on the world?
@@Alex-956 There's still time till Conan's next show for HBO. We need a Jack Grey to step up
This hits different after watching the finale on TBS.
Absolutely. And considering it’s already 11 years old? I’m pretty shook Conan’s run on TV is ending :/
Yes really does 😪 I cried so much last night during the ep 😭😭
i miss conan so much already :(. :( why did he have to leave now we are stuck with fallon colbert trevor noah James corden and seth myers

I can't believe it's been over 10 years. Feels like yesterday.
Only Conan can say "that's a not a joke" and still get laughter. One of the best late night hosts of all time.

@Ted Wilson yeah, leno is great.

Fun fact: Conan’s hair hook is called a pompadour!
