The voice in the movie is from a different actor though (Gerd Martienzen according to IMDB). Story is that they lost the original recordings and had to redub the whole movie, and kinski asked way too much money to dub himself, so he was replaced with someone cheaper
The shot at the 1:00 mark and the whole ending after that is simply iconic. I saw this in a movie theater in California. Which is really the only place to see this film. Klaus KInski was the most expensive item in the budget, and he was worth it.Helena Rojo is almost as good. I always thought the last shot was a helicopter but its not, its a speed boat. Would have never guessed it since its so smooth and you cannot see a wake.
Klaus Kinski was certainly an arrogant egotistical insane asshole not worth the hassle and pain and suffering that he pretty much caused everyone around him and how important he thought he was. But man I’m glad at least that with Werner’s level-headed direction he could make use of Kinski’s insanity. Helena Rojo was the standout for me though, she said so very little but expressed a lot which is the mark of the best actors really.
@@nerfgunner2327 that means nothing, all movies have goofs and this is art cinema from the 70s shot on low budget in the middle of nowhere with actors trying to kill each other.
One is taken in completely by this film provided one has inner substance which most dont have . This is a film of substance and gravitas and its not a film made for the dim witted masses who munch on popcorn over yet another follow up of some formula movie . I loved this film . Not easy for the actors involved for they really had to endure harsh conditions making for a haunting realism . Werner Herzog the director is a true pioneer in the classic sense. He is not what one would call a sucker for special effects. That speaks well for him.
When you think about it, this is a good allegory for the folly of colonialism and imperialism. Forces and peoples wide and complex, for which the result is death and darkness. Only the ideologies and ideologues remain at the end. Prophets alone in the darkness that their delusions created.
Did Trump draw inspiration from this ? He too resembles the wrath of god in many ways almost like comet crashing into the earth ......and he too believes in Dynasties .
Klaus Kinski playing a slightly saner version of himself
Similarities maybe, but one might argue that the true Aguirre was also quite insane viewed from modern eyes...

I saw this at a screening in New Orleans last may. It was THE way to watch this film.

I saw this film on a Nokia 3310 in Gdansk.
Bro if you can’t see the wake it explains why you’d think this is a good film.

Klaus taking lunacy to 4th dan black belt level....even normal everyday things he does, is with an intensity of someone about to explode ....
Kinsky il più magnetico intenso ed inquietante attore in assoluto... Uno così non era previsto nel genere umano
the crazy thing is he lived
he was executed.

Imagine Aguirre conquering Mexico with an armada of rafts and monkeys.
Does any one know this piece of music? It is not on the soundtrack.

A metaphor for brexit & the tory party... after death, collapse & abject failure they ask "Who else is with me?"
Interesting analogy
Like Richard 3
And then along comes the Labour party and things really do go to shit
