Last september (2021) I got ran over by a car. Broke my pelvis in 4 places, then had to have my spleen removed. I remember discovering this song, while listening through all Popol Vuh in my hospital bed. I had not heard this song before then. It really helped me, made me go through this period of my life with a sense of an unearthly calm. I couldn't move for the first month after surgery, and listening to this song at night, lulling myself to sleep, I was filled with a strange bliss. I thought about my injuries, how it would feel after they heal. How I would walk again. And then how I will grow old, sick, then eventually die. How the walls around me will crumble with time, how the terrain on which the hospital stands will be eroded with rains and sunlight. All of this felt like it was condensed in one endless instant of that thought. And I knew that all that would remain is this music, flying in the air, timeless and tenseless.

Last year(2021) I was hospitalized with esophageal cancer. Lying in the postoperative bed, the thing that resonated most with me was the Popol VUH that I listened to 40 years ago.
The organic sound gently envelops me, and the grain of it soothes me.

Florian did teach people how to heal using sound. Singing inside your own body. He incorporated that healing into his work. He used to run workshops on it but sadly he died before I could attend.
I have heard so many stories people being aided by Popul Vuh's music.

this song made me cry every time, not anymore as I don't need to cry now. As a man I had to listen it alone. Now I can share this beautiful song. I can see now it was trying to cure me when made me cry.

As I went back one more time to this discreet master piece, perfectly suited with these images of a long gone world, I thought this music was meant for the dead, or at least for lonely detached peaceful consciousness drifting above human life. And many comments here evok the same feeling : mark of a great objective universal art !

Check out another band of the same name, but they changed the name to Popol ace, due to avoiding a conflict with this german band . Popol ace had a hit, "Queen of all queens". Swingy progrock-ish. 1975. Jahn Teigen passed away recently.

To me this video reflects our transient journey through life. People/animals no matter how dearly we may love, we have to release them at some point and what remains is only ourselves, this silent watcher of the passing forms in what we call our 'life'.
In this way it is a blessing to have those spacious gaps of aloneness where one receives glimpses of this death, while still being in this breathing body.

"Herrlich und schön". Reminds me of the norwegian ambient musician Geir Jenssen, a bit, see albums "Patashnik", "Substrata", for example. Artist name "Biosphere". Time ca 1993- up to now. There is maybe a playlist on my channel of it. But this track here from PV is like a more classic music form of ambient.
