Just started playing tf2 a few days ago, and jump maps three, managed to finish all easy maps today.
Got through for first five medium walls jumps before my game crashed due to lack of memory. Can't wait to try out jumps with your videos, I'm sure they'll help a ton so thank you!
Just finished jump_anime today, too many wall jumps so thx god original exist, also thx for making these videos. Even if I know how to rocket jump it's still very helpful having these knowledge shared to everyone as well as learning new things, great for both experienced and inexperienced jumpers.

because strafes are based on where you're moving and where you aim/how you move your aim, doesn't the habit of holding A as you look at a right wall, and sometimes even while turning away have the exact same effect as holding W and turning 90 degrees to the left?
obv not as harmful in practice because the angle is more conducive to the strafes you want with regard to wall placement, just a thought
Ah yeah - this is worth talking about a bit. Holding the opposite direction does literally nothing, so it's ok if you do it and ok if you don't. If you end up strafing away from the wall, it can be nice to have that strafe buffered so you start strafing as soon as possible, but it literally doesn't do anything when you're doing repeated right wallshots on the same wall.
I learned the habit from jumps like easy walls 7 where you strafe left over and over during right wallshots, and when I later gained a better understanding about strafing, I realized it wasn't doing anything at all. But when I first tried to get rid of that habit, the quality of my wallshots dropped drastically. Turns out it didn't affect anything in-game, but it was very helpful for evoking good technique from my muscle memory. Holding out when doing wallshots is probably the most common habit that doesn't do anything, and it's present at all skill levels.

Sorry, Coolant :( Turns out UI elements like skeys are baked into demos and not applied afterwards, so I wasn't able to get keypresses with your recording. I'm going to need help with hard walls though, this is about as difficult of wallshots as I can do cleanly with stock.

really cannot figure out jump 2 for the life of me. sometimes it feels like i get it and sometimes it feels like im going too fast. it just feels strange
I want a good challenge for wall jumps, I've done this one and hard walls a bunch of times now, even going back and doing all left wall jumps possible, making sure I'm completing every jump with room to spare

Definitely check out jump_vanilla, sounds like a great fit for you. It's a classic, quality, high-t4 walls map
jump 6 is just impossible for me
I hate jump 2 so much
All of the fun jumps locked off by that one annoying curved hallway and the server thinks I haven't gotten past it for some reason so I can't /goto
I just want to practice consistency on harder jumps but having to look at jump 2 again ruins my mood entirely.
What is the command you're using to show your inputs?
It's "/skeys" in the in-game chat, works on any JA or Tempus server (or in my case, it also works with the plugins I use when jumping offline)

I thought you said we should not rely on pressing S while we push off on our first jump.
Pressing S is ok, what you don't want to do is hold just S and walk straight backwards. When you only use S without A or D, you walk slightly slower than any other combination of keys. You also don't want to spend too much time looking backwards to aim. The longer you spend looking/walking backwards, the worse you're able to recall what the jump looked like facing forwards, and you won't be able to go where you want to as precisely. Sorry for the confusion.

Unfortunately, if your goal is long-term improvement, that is a big problem. You can correct it though! The earlier you stop doing backwards walls, the better, because backwards walls builds muscle memory that will actively work against you when you try to learn to do walls facing forwards. I did right walls backwards for quite a while when I was first learning. It was really hard learn to do them correctly because of the muscle memory thing and because I knew I could beat the jump much faster if I just went backwards. I decided I would only go forwards, which was awkward and made walls jumps take longer for a while, but in the long run it unlocked a ton more opportunity for growth. I think you should do the same for left walls.
