Thanks so much for pinning this comment. I think the mourning process for my $300 is complete, and I can upgrade to studio and save all my time. Thanks!
The scariest thing is, you can use the default audio section and another language for the subtitles, and will translate and it's insanely accurate, much better than any AI tools I ever had a chance to test. To be more precise, I am Brazilian, and I tested Eng audio with pt-br subtitles because our language has almost the double words English, to be this accurate it's a brake though in our era/technology. I can assure you the accuracy of the translation is over 95% with names in upper case for the first char, case sensitive of accentuation and punctuation, and even many abbreviations.
Came back here to comment after testing this stuff out for about a month. This new feature is a life-saver at my workplace!!! We've been using both the auto-captions AND the transcription features. It's saved us a boat load of time and money. Thanks for the great video! ♥
yooooo THAN YOU SO MUCH man!!! i did not know that DAVINCI RESOLVE has that function!! its gonna save me so much time!!! you are a rock star man, thanks a lot
You’re welcome! I just got added in version 18.5, keep in mind that 18.5 is still in beta but hopefully the full release will be out soon. I’ve been using the beta since it came out and I’ve had no problems.
Re the Audio Transcriber/subtitler. Just a tip on those who use dual screens, I was getting frustrated with losing the transcription window box and not being to get it back up again. It will hide behind the secondary screen (non primary) when called up again (Right clicking the clip in the bin>Transcribe Audio). Switch to either Cut or Deliver pages and drag it over to the primary screen.
Great video, but I'm confused. I have Devinci Resolve Studio 18 (PAID FOR) and I can't update past 18.1.4. It says it is fully up to date, yet the auto caption option is nowhere to be found. Am I missing something here? Help....
Yes, since version 18.5 is still in beta you need to go to their website and download it from the website, it will not tell you inside of the program that there is an update. That’s because it’s in beta and it’s not a full release yet. Go to the BlackMagic design website and the support page and you can find 18.5 beta update there.
Thanks for this video! So when you create the subtitle track and upload to UA-cam, it's not actually burning the track into the video image, right? It's a separate track? I'm assuming none of the styling that you apply gets saved to UA-cam?
You can do it either way, you can burn it into the video when you render it or you can export it as a separate file then upload that to UA-cam so Viewers can choose if they want to turn them on or not.
Straight to it and clear! Thank you for this. DaVinci Resolve is saving me from the headache of some apps that create their own captions. Very cool! So glad I switched.
Ok, I think this finally sold me on moving over to Resolve. Premiere keeps "running out of memory" 🤷🏽♂ and becomes unusable. This looks solid. Thank you for the breakdown!
You’re welcome! There’s always awesome, a lot of people have been coming over from Premiere. I’ve never used Premiere, I just got started on resolve a long time ago but you can pretty much do anything you want in Resolve now.
Hey Jason, a bit of an advanced question to build upon this. I have a video/audio track of talking head and my screen recording to go along with it, much like you do with your tutorials. Two separate video tracks. But on a long video, I'd love to be able to strip silence out of these clips. My question is how to use this new tool to effectively work on two clips that you need to remain synced up. I usually do auto-align by waveform and thought I could use linking or comound clips to keep these together, then run the transcription tool on it, but didn't work. Wondering if you have any idea of a good way to achieve this. Thanks!
I would think that making the 2 a synced compound clip and muting the track you don't want should do the trick. Then run the transcription on it and you can delete the quiet parts/empty spaces. I'll have to give that a try....
Hi! In addition to unlocking all of the features, the biggest reason to upgrade is because the studio version will make full use of your GPU. The free version uses only the CPU for processing things, not really the GPU. When I upgraded from the free version to the studio version, I found a pretty good boost in performance and the ease of editing.
@@JasonYadlovski I see! pretty cool! thanks a lot for getting back to me :) love your channel and I subscribed. also shared your video w friends and gave you a shout-out on SM

Thanks for the channel, I'll be referring to it a lot! I bought DRS about a week ago (noob) and worked with it a lot over the weekend. Coming from PowerDirector I'm finding it super tedious to line up several tracks. I'm editing a 90 minute concert with six cameras and using the audio from the best camera (muting the rest once tracks are lined up). With all the crowd noise, natural reverb, and just different sounds from each camera placed all over the hall (and one roaming) I found that audio sync in Resolve doesn't work. I finally ended up reverting back to PowerDirector to finish editing. Do you have any specific episodes on working in this situation?
You're welcome! Sound like you need to be using the multicam functions instead of trying to manually line everything up and make cuts/angle changes, etc. I do have an older video on Multcam, you could check that out. It should help.
Question for ya, so typically our producers would do the correction pass on the scripts/captions of a video. I am curious how you would do this. The video is done and I run I guess transcription or captions? Then send them the file...as a text or srt. then they would correct any spelling or grammar issues then send me the file back to import into resolve as fixed captions. Or if it was a transcript I guess I would make the captions from that? Just trying to see how this workflow would be if I needed to send out a file for corrections. I'm also happy to do time tweaking of the captions in and outs since if words or things change slightly that would need to be fixed
Hi Jason! Thank you, this video helped a lot. Can I check with you how you imported new fonts over to the subtitle Track (ref 4:59)? I noticed that for normal titles I can select my new fonts but it doesn't show for the subtitle track dropdown specifically, and I can't seem to find where I can install/import the new fonts for subtitles.
I just installed the fonts like normal on my computer, then for the subtitles, I just went to the Track level changes in the inspector and the fonts were there. Should work the same for you.....🤔
@@JasonYadlovski thanks for the quick response! Ah, that's strange cause it doesn't show up for me, I'll have to ask the davinci support about this. Appreciate the help!🙏🏻
You can go into the settings and change the master settings for the subtitles, or you can change them individually, if you’d like. Here’s a video with more information about subtitles, even though it was before the auto subtitles came out, how are you adjust the subtitles are still the same. ua-cam.com/video/3w2ob7y0cPE/v-deo.html

If you want them in bedded in your rendered video, you have to check the option to turn that on in your deliver tab, render settings. Look towards the bottom of the render settings for the option.
It seems that DVR is able to create subtitles with translation to other languages from English. I know, it is not supposed to, it is not indicated in the user manual but IT WORKS. I have made the test by selecting "french" in the "Create subtile from audio" window and it works pretty well. But the opposite doesn't work. If the audio is in french and i i select "English" as a language, that doesn't work. Any idea why?

Hey! Can you make a video on how to install the StoryToolKitAI for DaVinci Resolve on Windows and how with this tool we can convert audio to text with Whisper in DaVinci?
Awesome video! Hey could you show how to set up audio settings for when I'm quietly talking it's loud, but when I yell it won't clip or sound distorted? It's hard because I boost my quiet dialogue, then it sounds terrible when there's any loud parts 🙏
Love the video, thank you! fwiw, In 18.6, in the Render tab, I had to check "Export Subtitle" and select "Burn into video" for it to actually appear on rendered video.
You’re welcome! Yes if you want the captions burned in, you have to do it the way you mentioned. Other wise you’d upload a separate captions/subtitle file.
I don't like the timing lag. It waits until you complete a word before switching to the next caption segment. So when you get to the end of the line and start the next, you hear the word, but it is not on the screen. Then it switches. It's a bit jarring. I have to do some manual adjustments to make it smooth for the viewer. Accuracy is pretty great, though.
Correct, because 18.5 is still in beta you’re not gonna see it when you check for updates in 18.1.4. You have to go directly to the Davinci Resolve website and download the beta version. Once the full release is out, you’ll be able to check for updates and see the download available.
Hey Jason, I’m working on a feature film and I just need to get subtitles on it. Problem is, I haven’t updated to 18.5 yet from Davinci Resolve 17. My question is, in order to use this AI subtitle feature - can I update to 18.5 or will it ruin my project timeline on 17? Any advice would be great! Tony
You would be better off installing 18.5 on another machine and then doing it there. Any project loaded into 18.5 won't even load into 18, let alone 17.
Hey Tony - Peter’s correct in his comment - when you open a project and 18.5, it upgrades the project and it is not backwards compatible. I think Peter had a good idea of loading resolve, 18.5 on another machine, create your subtitles, export the subtitles then you can import the subtitles into your current resolve 17 project. If you don’t have another computer, you might wanna wait for the full release or make sure you back up your project and your database before upgrading, so you can always go backwards to at least 18.4 if you need to. Just FYI I believe when you upgrade to version 18 from 17, you’ll also have to upgrade your database.
@@JasonYadlovski - Jason - thanks for getting back to me on this. It was very helpful. I have another quick question for you: I have a film that’s getting ready for QC distribution. Problem is, I had some third parties film segments for me and when they sent them over, the clips only had one mono clip. I watched a ton of videos on the internet showing how to change a mono clip to a stereo clip through clip attributes section. Issue is, my distributor said that if you have a dual mono it will fail QC test. Is this true and is there a work around this? Or would that pass for Stereo. Any feedback would be great! Thanks!
Well done bud! Using the subtitles a lot in a shorts series I've been running so looking forward to trying this. Maybe I missed it, but is 18.5 a beta or a full release? I kept looking for the Mr. Beast text 2:01😎
@@JasonYadlovski Indeed! A bit nervous about loading the beta, been burned in the past by being on the bleeding edge of a release. Maybe I'll wait for V 18.51 🙂
You can customize them as far as the way they look, but I don’t think you can animate them. I think you need to use regular text to animate it. But you could always use the transcribe feature that is new, that way you don’t have to type out the words. Then just copy the transcription text that you want and paste it into a new text clip.
Nice! You remembered the card for the Fairlight update video that you promoted. It's such a pet peeve of mine when people point to the corner of the screen and there's no card... It's like, "Hello?" And everybody forgets it I don't know any other business where top pro's forget something like that on the regular 🤣
Hi Jason. I purchased Davinci Resolve 18 Studio and it would not update to 18.5. So I went and downloaded it. Not sure why but no matter what I do the option for this does not show up on my timeline button. I'm just using a raw clip from my iPhone. Any ideas?
Hi Steve, what button are you looking for? The reason you didn’t see 18.5 when you check for updates because it’s still in beta, it’s not the full release yet. So it does not show up and check for updates, you have to download it from the website just like you did. Wanted to full release, you would see it in Resolve 18 when you check for updates.
@@JasonYadlovski, okay Jason. I tried with my Studio clicking check for updates and it said I was up to date at 18.1 something. Now I've downloaded it from the web and have 18.5 but the "Create Subtitles From Audio" does not show up. I sent in an email to them. I don't get why us paid users can't access it? :)
You should be able to access it, are you sure you didn’t download the free version on accident? Version 18.5 will not appear when you check for updates until the fall releases out. It’s still in beta. Double check your download in the studio version and not the free version. It should be there, it’s there for me.

Thanks.. I just tlked with them and that is what I did... It says Fusion Studio.. Also I wanted to mention that he said we should uninstall the version that we have and not just do an overwrite.
Nice video !!! I guess since you made this video Divinci did in fact add multiple languages. My question is there a way for it to grab the text in say Spanish but then translate it to English ? I am working on a project that has both English and Spanish speaking interviews and I need to have the English converted to Spanish for the Spanish version (doc) and vice versa for the English version of the doc
Does it work for well for song lyrics? I've noticed that the free AI options do not work at all. I might consider Studio if it can actually produce song lyrics well. Anyone have success with this?
I rendered my video and the subtitles did not show up. I checked the subtitles settings and checked off a few things and still having the issue. Any ideas?
hey, i am using resolve 18 and I dont even have that option, paid studio version, my dropdown goes from detect scene cuts right to mute tracks, there isnt even a grayed out option, its simply not there
Anyone else not having this work properly? It just won’t subtitle the entire video. Seems like it picks whatever section it wants to sub itself. This is with AND without adding in and out points. Seeing as I bought the Studio version for this, it’s frustrating
@@JasonYadlovski Thanks buddy. It's good to know. So now my only decision process is when it makes sense financially to sneak it in... instead of waiting.
I downloaded davinci after buying it directly from them 5 days ago but for some reason they gave me 18 point something but didn't give me 18.5 . how do I get 18.5??? great videos btw.
18.5 is only in beta so you probably got 18.4. If you want the new beta, you have to go to the website and download it, it won’t appear in check for updates until it’s officially released.
In the Transcription one can Insert/Append Things But can't seem to change/correct text. I made Sub Clips/Closed Captions, Then made corrections to the Sub Clips. After making and correcting the sub clips, I made a TRANSCRIPTION and it had Pretty much the all the same mistakes as the Sub Clips had Before The Corrections. I've not figured how to edit the transcription. Any Clue?
Hey, really nice with the update but i do not have the "create subtitles from audio" tab, even tho i have the 18.5 beta. anybody knows why? Edit: its beacuse i have the free version and not the studio version :D
Great video but I don't think you are using the Beta Version. I just downloaded DR Beta, my about DR reads 18.5B Build 16, and there definitely aren't the same menu options you show in this video. Your Timeline drop down is completely different than my Beta version and my version still seems to have the same manual subtitles as the earlier free version. Maybe it means its time to Upgrade to the paid version - so tired of wasting time with Kapwing, even though I have the paid version, the load time for my videos wastes hours and is so frustrating.
Thanks! Are you using the Studio beta version? That's what I've got. The auto captions are only in the Studio beta. If you do a decent amount of video editing, the one time fee for studio is totally worth it.
I downloaded Resolve last night and I'm not seeing this option. Looks like you have a special UA-camr version of Resolve. Guess I'm going back to Premiere and hand typing :(
Haha, a special youtuber version, you had to download the 18.5, the most current Beta version and make sure it's the studio version. You won't see it in the free version of the 18.5 beta.
It's a pity it can't do "search and replace" words, or spelling check in the transcriptions. It has search, but I can't even edit the words. The captions created is a bit slow in timing. Hope they will update it soon.
It doesn't need to be connected to the internet full time, but you probably have to be connected when you enter the license for Studio....But I'm not 100% sure on that.
Just a heads up, this is a STUDIO ONLY Feature. If you have the free version you’re not gonna see it. 😁

I have to do some manual adjustments to make it smooth for the viewer. Accuracy is pretty great, though.
At least it’s pretty easy to select all the subtitle clips and bump them a few frames with the period and comma key.
I was VERY surprised how WELL it transcribe! Catches me quoting and it wayyyy better than Premiere HANDS DOWN.
Nice! 😁👍
@@JasonYadlovski if they added a general effect that made it Pop in and out. They be hands down the best, still very impressed
I'm sure they will add features to it.
the option " Create Subtitles from Audio" does not show for me, says version 18.5, newly purchased license though maybe thats why?
thanks. do you know what 18.5.2 update is about? maybea video on that one? thanks
Awesome video - and, straight to the points. Enjoyed much!
Thanks and thank you for watching!
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks so much for making this. Helped a ton!
You’re welcome!
Great feature, but does it handle multiple language transcription?
Not yet, but I'm sure that will come in time
Is there a work around to moving subtitle text to a text + effect?
I have clients that want their text to pop up as animations
I think just copy/paste from the subtitle to the text +. I'd have to look into it more and see if there is a better way.
I'm sure Black magic will come out with a solution
In the mean time it is a bit of a run around.
it is available only in the version pro?
Yes studio only.
Great video! Can you edit the text when you transcribe video @7:30 ? I've gotten errors that I want to fix
Yes you can edit it. 👍
@@JasonYadlovski How, if u don't mind me asking? When I try to delete or type any text, nothing happens.
can you convert subtitles to 608 and 708 Closed Captions embedded and saved in your output video file?
You can embed them into the rendered files, yes.
I paid for the Studio version, checked for updates but mine version is 18.1.4 , it does not show 18.5 and I dont have this feature
Correct, because 18.5 is still in beta you’re not gonna see it when you check for updates in 18.1.4. You have to go directly to the Davinci Resolve website and download the beta version. Once the full release is out, you’ll be able to check for updates and see the download available.
Thanks Jason. Just need to go and learn how to back up before upgrading from DR 17
I’ve got videos to help You out. 😜
@@JasonYadlovski Thanks I followed your back up database and all good.
Hey Jason,
I’m working on a feature film and I just need to get subtitles on it.
I have another quick question for you:
I have a film that’s getting ready for QC distribution.
It's a beta, but well worth it!
Beta, but very stable. But always backup before upgrading 😜
@@JasonYadlovski Indeed! A bit nervous about loading the beta, been burned in the past by being on the bleeding edge of a release. Maybe I'll wait for V 18.51 🙂
is the captions customizable? animations? like can you use this to create reels with captions?
You can customize them as far as the way they look, but I don’t think you can animate them. I think you need to use regular text to animate it.
But you could always use the transcribe feature that is new, that way you don’t have to type out the words. Then just copy the transcription text that you want and paste it into a new text clip.
Any indication as to when it will be released in the complete version and out of Beta? Thanks
I don't know.
Nice! You remembered the card for the Fairlight update video that you promoted. It's such a pet peeve of mine when people point to the corner of the screen and there's no card... It's like, "Hello?" And everybody forgets it I don't know any other business where top pro's forget something like that on the regular 🤣
i have the davinci resolve 18.5 beta but that option dosn't come up for me?
It’s only in Studio…
@@JasonYadlovski oh okay darm that sucks
You may be able to use studio beta for free, I’m not sure though…
@@JasonYadlovski haven’t seen anything about it but if I do deffo give it a shot
Jason, I've been avoiding this video because all it made me think about was what I was missing! But now that I'm studio'd up, well... 😁
Fantastic!
I dont have the "Creat Subtitles from Audio" button please help me
It’s only in the studio version, if you are running the free version you won’t see it.
@@JasonYadlovski, boy you are a fast youtube responder! I'm calling them now to see if I can figure it out. I'm very excited to test it out for my IG's, TokToks and soon YT shorts. I'm pretty sure I clicked on the studio version. It shows I have 18.5 but I'm not sure it says Studio. It Says Public BEta.
Thanks.. I just tlked with them and that is what I did... It says Fusion Studio.. Also I wanted to mention that he said we should uninstall the version that we have and not just do an overwrite.
Is this feature only available in Pro version? I can't find it
I installed 18.5 Beta free version and I can't find "Create Subtitles from Audio" from Timeline menu
It’s only in studio version, you’re not gonna see it in the free version.
@@JasonYadlovski Thanks for the reply!
Happy to help. 😁👍
wohooooo this made my day!!!
😁👍
is this only in the beta ?
Yes, only in Studio beta version.
WHOA! ! GAME CHANGER! This is Too Fly! Thanks for the update Bruddah! 🐒😎👍🏾
You got it!
Does it work for well for song lyrics? I've noticed that the free AI options do not work at all. I might consider Studio if it can actually produce song lyrics well. Anyone have success with this?
I haven't tried with lyrics, but I'd think it would work good....🤔
how do you save a preset for text though?
AS SOON as I commented I found it. Thanks for your video!
Awesome, glad you found it!
Thank you! Got yourself a sub sir!
Thanks for the sub, welcome to the community!
This was perfect for me, take my like and sub!
Great, thanks for the like and sub! Welcome to the community!
cant find 18.5 , it yapps off to me that I am up to date with a version below that
You have to grab it from the Blackmagic website since it’s a beta. It won’t appear in ‘check for updates’ until it’s a full release.
@@JasonYadlovski ty , found it and downloading it as I type this
How to make all text capitalized after auto translation?
Not sure you can do it unless you pick a font that uses only caps....
After installing 18.5 I do not have any of those features? The buttons you are referring to does not exists. What can I be doing wrong?
If you’re not using studio, you will not see it in the free version.
@@JasonYadlovski Thank you for the reply. I do not think that is very clear in the video.
Jay, appreciate this update alert. From the excitement generated by this Captions feature announcement, I know I'll be wanting to use it. Thank you.
You’re welcome!
I rendered my video and the subtitles did not show up. I checked the subtitles settings and checked off a few things and still having the issue. Any ideas?
Strange, are you selecting the option to burn them into the render in the Deliver tab? That's the only reason they wouldn't show as far as I know....
@Jason Yadlovski i thought i deleted this 😂. I found the burn to option literally a sec after leaving my comment
hey, i am using resolve 18 and I dont even have that option, paid studio version, my dropdown goes from detect scene cuts right to mute tracks, there isnt even a grayed out option, its simply not there
You need to be on the 18.5 Beta which you have to download from BMDs website. That's probably why you don't see it.
thank you very much, very very very helpful video
You are welcome!
Anyone else not having this work properly? It just won’t subtitle the entire video. Seems like it picks whatever section it wants to sub itself. This is with AND without adding in and out points. Seeing as I bought the Studio version for this, it’s frustrating
Thanks big dawg.
You got it. 👍
so is it paid version or something? dont have that option
Yes only in the studio version.
Very cool! Does it ever go on sale?
Not really but you can find deals for the speed editor and Resolve for the same price - $295 is the best I've seen.
@@JasonYadlovski Thanks buddy. It's good to know. So now my only decision process is when it makes sense financially to sneak it in... instead of waiting.
Thanks a lot!
You're welcome!
There's no "create subtitles from audio" option on my end. Do I enable it somewhere?
It’s only in the studio version, you probably have the free version, correct?
@@JasonYadlovski That explains it, thanks
In the Transcription one can Insert/Append Things But can't seem to change/correct text. I made Sub Clips/Closed Captions, Then made corrections to the Sub Clips. After making and correcting the sub clips, I made a TRANSCRIPTION and it had Pretty much the all the same mistakes as the Sub Clips had Before The Corrections. I've not figured how to edit the transcription. Any Clue?
Damn, I need this! Is this a beta version of Davinci, because it says my version is up to date. (ver. 18.1.4)
Yes it’s a beta - 18.5 and it is only available in the studio version.
Hey, really nice with the update but i do not have the "create subtitles from audio" tab, even tho i have the 18.5 beta. anybody knows why?
Edit:
its beacuse i have the free version and not the studio version :D
You got it, it’s only in studio. 😜👍
Great tutorial, Jason - the Auto Captions is fantastic 🤟
Great video man 🙏🏻
Thanks Gary! I forgive most people know this one but I still gotta make a vid 😜
@@JasonYadlovski I personally always find your tutorials so easy to follow so I'm delighted you did this video 😁🙏
It is fascinating how well I understand you despite you speaking fast. Very well done on your explainer voice / skills / sentence structure.
Awesome, glad you can understand my fast paced Jersey talking. 😜 Thank you for watching!
Nice! 😊
😁👍
The transcribe audio button is not there for me.
It’s only in the studio version. Are you using the free version?
@@JasonYadlovski Yes. I guess I might have to buy it. Can I format and style the captions on the screen after they are auto generated?
Yes, you can modify the format and style at any time.
@@JasonYadlovski Ok cool, and can you change ratio to make shorts videos?
Yup 👍 You can change how many characters per line.
Beta 2 came out today, maybe give it a try.
@@JasonYadlovski I am using beta 2, downloaded today.
👍
tried to export 2 minute clip with subs baked in but it doesn't export with subs
I would try it again and make sure you have the correct settings on your export settings.
Make sure under Subtitle settings in the export menu you selected "Bake Into Video"
Finally! Waiting for the Dutch language now.
I'm sure they will add in more languages as time goes on.
Dat is nu mogelijk! Geweldig! (That's possible now! Amazing!)
Until it translates from one language to caption / subtitles to another language its just for the hearing impaired .
The did add a bunch of languages you can change to after I made this video. 👍
I cant find this feature in windows version
It is available only on the studio version, it should be there if you’re running studio. 🤔
is this tool avail abale in free version?
Only in Studio.
@@JasonYadlovski in studio, should the computer connect to internet?
It doesn't need to be connected to the internet full time, but you probably have to be connected when you enter the license for Studio....But I'm not 100% sure on that.
@@JasonYadlovski oke, Thanks man
I'm needing an option to search the transcript like Adobe has
You should be able to search the transcription in 18.5.
