I tend to want new clothes because I don't like how my clothes look on me.... but that's mostly caused by not liking my body, not the clothes. Cultivating love for my body is a lot harder than buying a new blouse. I'm trying tho!

Thank you for being vulnerable because this is a great comment. I'm sorry to heat that this is something you struggle with though

@littleleafy I totally relate to this 😢. It sucks. I'm also working on it 🤷🏽‍♀️🤗.

Sealing away sweaters not only protects against moths but makes me feel excited to pull out my cozy knits every year.

I think the "It's Fall, I need new clothes" refresh comes from being a kid and getting new clothes at the beginning of the school year, because we outgrew the new clothes from last year. 13-15 years of getting new clothes every September and it becomes ingrained.

Excellent point that really reminds me of just how many habits we can have around shopping

last year i packed everything away in a spare closet and built myself a capsule-ish wardrobe for the season out of what i already owned. it has been eye opening to see what items i reached for over and over again vs what items i kept avoiding. it helped me articulate to myself 'i like this item because abc but i don't wear it because xyz' and it made it so much easier to let go of 'favorite' pieces that just weren't working for me anymore or decide to buy a new piece with intention. it's a much slower process than a traditional declutter but it feels more productive because with each item i let go of, i better understand my style and what I'm trying to get out of my clothes.
and now when i get the shopping bug, i can just go look through the spare closet of items i've probably forgotten about already to scratch that itch lol

i always feel like i can’t find the perfect clothes, so i always end up buying things that are kind of close to what i wanted but not exactly, and then i end up not liking them so i feel like i have nothing to wear. i think it’s a mix of perfectionism and feeling that my body looks wrong in everything. the point you made about too much inspiration was super interesting and helpful!

Right now I feel discontent in my wardrobe because I don’t fit in half of my clothes. I have a goal of being able to comfortably fit my clothes again and I hope I can achieve it because worked hard on creating a minimal wardrobe I love and use. I like your haircut, looks good! 👍🏽

I thought your comments on reducing your baseline were really interesting because I both agree and disagree to a certain extent. I 100% agree that once we declutter we should sit with the smaller number of things for a while to see how that works for us. However, I have definitely had times, especially when my circumstances and needs change, where increasing my baseline has actually made things simpler and easier. Having to do an extra load of laundry every week because I run out of leggings is much more or an inconvenience and a complication to my dressing process than buying two more items in that specific category. I do agree that we should try it with less and see how it goes, because sometimes we think this will be the case when in reality, it won’t, but if we’ve tried it with less and that DOES make it harder, increasing the baseline can be the solution

Excellent points! I always enjoy hearing your thoughtful insights. 🤗👏
I try to avoid looking for something to buy unless I come up with a specific need or want almost entirely on my own. There are so many things out there to buy that you’re almost guaranteed to find at least one thing you like and impulsively purchase it if you just go on an aimless search. It’s like you say- both intentionality and contentment are so important!
P.S. I love your hair! That length looks so good on you! 😊

Disagree on the hodgepodge point - orange def goes with cool tones and feminine blouse can def go with sporty🥰

How did you know that I was feeling like this?!
I only have tees and tank tops that I pair with jeans. But I’d like cute blouses to wear as well.
I love my jeans, my coats, and basic tees. But I need something a bit more elevated.
I want to feel a bit fancier tho because I’ve been breastfeeding two children for 3 years now so that’s probably why I’m wanting nicer tops.

So many things go into making good choice/feeling good w your clothes😅it's good to think about what/why isn't working and why we're not happy. I'm making better purchases now but I have a lot of things bought prior that weren't good choices. So one thing is to let things go but you might also need to purchase something because what you have was not a good buy😅 E.g. I bought a white and navy cardigan a while back but was focused on the cheap price so they don't wear nice /cut isn't good... I probably will buy a new navy and white cardigan cause I wear cardigans all the time a year but I will focus first on the cut and material. It feels frustrating and I feel stupid but I can't travel back in time so I can only be smarter now. A positive adding more, last fall I bought pants in different colours: a dark green, an autumn purple and a smokey blue in different materials in addition to my usual black, navy and dark grey. It highly improved my happiness w my clothes. A lot of items I liked but never felt I could style or didn't like the look off now work. I'm wearing much more of my wardrobe because it looks nicer! I have worn the pants many times. A few more pants don't actually take up that more space and I'm so much more content w my clothes. In a way I'm happier w less tops because I have more bottoms to style with
