The whole PHD vs. business application discussion is somewhat about Theory vs. Application. But so much of the conceptual understanding of Gen AI is rooted in academic theory - yet, evolved so quickly and recently that almost any school curriculum and degree may not even be relevant for the industry after a few years. Being a technical expert in the domain means knowing so much of the emergent work and research. And the more privatized the less accessible innovation will become for the rest. Great video btw
