What is Civil? Civil Engineering applies mathematical, scientific and technological principles to plan, design, construct, and manage infrastructure. Infrastructure encompasses all of the essential elements necessary for the operation of our society and includes
- buildings,
- bridges,
- transportation (highways, roads, railways, and transit),
- municipal services (water supply, sewage treatment), and
- green spaces.
The compatibility of the built infrastructure with the natural environment is critical; Civil Engineering also includes environmental protection, remediation, and rehabilitation.
