- In today's video I'm looking at the Fjord Fuzz Embla Fuzz and Frei Uni-Vibe pedals.
I've always been a fan of those classic Jimi Hendrix Fuzz/ Vibe tones and these pedals paired together make the perfect match.
Here's what Fjord Fuzz say about the Frei Uni-Vibe
Frei was the Norse God of Peace and Love. It’s the obvious choice of name for a vintage style vibe! It’s also the name of my youngest son. Frei is a fully discrete, all analogue, vibe pedal. It uses an incandescent bulb with corresponding LDRs for chewey, swirly, throbby, psychedelic vibe sounds. I spent a lot of time sourcing the perfect parts, to keep the vibe hefty and the price tag not as much.
Some vibes have a tendency to get way too extreme once you turn your fuzz on, so I added a secondary foot switch for you to toggle between two independent depth controls. This means you essentially have two presets available.
There’s a slight volume boost when the pedal is on, because we’re Fjord FUZZ, not Fjord Pedals.

Here's what Fjord Fuzz says about the EMBLA:
This circuit was my first true invention and it has now gone through dozens of iterations to end up like this. I wanted a fuzz that behaved like an overdrive. I didn't like overdrives. Found them too boring. I couldn't find a fuzz that sounded cool, but could be managed like a regular drive unit.
EMBLA takes care of all of this and more. The gain and volume knobs take you from crisp, beautiful clean boost to thick, heavy fuzz and any nuance in between. It cleans up brilliantly and just always works. With any instrument, any amp and in any setting.
The bias knob lets you starve the signal without ever turning the pedal off. This can come in handy for bassists who don't want to just add to the noise floor of the band while idle or it can help you make your guitar sound like a 60s tonebender type fuzztone. The thickness control gives you the ability to pair it up with any amp. Turn it down for low wattage setups and back up for huge stage amps.

I am a huge OD boutique fan and look for a fuzz , not too mushy, wooly than I can damn easily ! Is the Bersek II or the Embra the one for me ? I had Jam eureka, Mythos Golden Fleece and LAA CUSTOM FX Fuzz...and sold them all ! Thanks for your answer and help.

Paul, even after having some time with the Frei vibe, are you still preferring the Jam Pedals Vibe to it?
I do like with the Frei the option to run an exp pedal, as well as switchable depths. Nothing is needed to fuss with by hand with it and I love that.
Definitely value your opinion here though, as I've only heard these two vibes via the 'tube, not in person, unfortunately.

Paul, the song “Drifting in the Dark”. Well I love it and play along to it but re chords I can only get the first 4 chords. Btw I’m in eflat and I do the fills and improvise the solo etc but it’s driving me crazy re the chords I can’t get. Is there any way you can fill me in re the chords after the first 4 chords? If not no worries. Thank you. FYI that’s my favorite strat of all strats I’ve ever seen. I’ve mentioned it before but it’s just perfect.
Hi Jack it uses open strings in E tuning so you’re going to struggle in zen if you want to play along with it. And the voicing date a little complicated to explain over a message I’m afraid,

I’m not that fussed on different radius. All my strats are different.
