Back in 1990, my 4 year older brother left for college and I moved into his big room downstairs. I was a freshman in high school and the MVP basketball player. I had my dad's vinyl collection and one of the records was Zep II. Back then us kids still had record players and cassette tapes. This was a few years before CDs. I liked to listen to music alot when I went to bed. Especially when I had a basketball game the next day. Led Zeppelin playing at night really helped me get pumped up and mentally focused. The record player was right behind my head and I would start off on side one. After side one I would flip the record over and listen to side two all the way to the end with Bring it on home. Then the record player would automatically shut off and I would fall asleep. I did that pretty much every night. I remember that vinyl needle scratching sound and this recording reminds me of those nights. I was a really good basketball ball player. Played with the Waltons. Played D-1 at Cal Berkeley in 95'. Zeppelin really played an integral part in my b-ball success.
How is that possible when the record was pressed that way before DJ's even heard the record, plus my old Reel to Reel tape officially released by Atlantic Records is the same. The DJ's did not put them together, that's how they were mixed for the vinyl pressing master. They just traditionally played the two songs together rather than just playing Heartbreaker, it's basically a medley. If you notice, there is no dead air (space) between the two songs.
I love Zeppelin! I'm almost 64 and I still play vinyl. It's a shame when I was growing up a lot of kids did not take care of their vinyl, but I always took very good care of mine. You can minimize the crackles and pops if you take special care of it. Back in the 70s I made the mistake once of loaning a friend my Who's Next album. When I got it back it had a nasty scratch in it. Never loaned anymore vinyl out again after that. I had to go buy a brand new copy of The Who Who's Next. I sure knew they were not going to buy me one.
@@markhaus1329 bought it on cassette in 1978. I was 18. Bought it on vinyl in 1981 when at FSU. Have it on disc too. But..Who are You...now thats a masterpiece too.
This is THE song that turned me on to Led Zeppelin. Before that, it was Elton John, Boston, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. All I knew about Led Zeppelin was the middle of "Whole lotta Love" and I thought What is this? But then, my friend played this song for me and I went right out and bought Led Zep II with the first money I earned at Dairy Queen back during 1980.
My senior year in highschool 1969-79 was the year led Zeppelin came out and just dominated, but there was several great groups and dozens of songs that are still unmatched.
I actually love the sounds in the silent beginning of albums when the needle drops. Who know 50 years ago that would ever matter? I prefer music unsterile!
"Heartbreaker." This song has been stuck in my head for 3 years, and I couldn't figure out what it was. I heard it on a classic rock station and tried to find it, but was unsuccessful. Thanks for scratching my itch 😆
The greatest misogynist-meets-shrew groupie-from-hell song ever. "Alimony, alimony, paying your bills / when your conscience hits, you knock it back with pills" is one of my all-time favorite lyrics. The way it seamlessly picks up where Heartbreaker drops a half-beat. Perfection! That such an obnoxious song can be so awesome, wow.
Let's be real, vinyl (with it's scratches and pops) is not _better_ quality. And _yet,_ there is this nostalgic, realistic feel you get from vinyl. It's not perfect. It feels more underground, more authentic. Almost like hearing them in the studio with all the potential background noise interfering. I love this sound; it fits these songs particularly well too!
Underground? What? Maybe to the kiddies today. But it was absolutely mainstream pre-digital crap. Kiddies today will never know the true meaning of quality where everything is either streamed, downloaded and/or disposable. Nostalgic? Maybe. Better? Absofreakinglutely!
I love all four of them. Along with Pink Floyd, those bands shaped what I thought music was, listening to my hippie dad's records growing up in the mid seventies. Of the five, Zep took me the longest to truly appreciate, and it was worth the wait

Not theft. Many of the great British bands tried to emulate American blues music. Zeppelin was an interesting attempt. If you want to hear blues music, go to the clubs in Oakland, Memphis, Chicago... Where old black men play. No better way to enjoy this music.
