    headcanon: Mugger is mumbly's dad & Muttley is a cousin. As for precious, he looks like he's probably a cousin of Mugger who probably is a crossbreed with a relative of scooby doo...perhaps scooby dum!

    There’s actually two dogs from top cat who act a lot like muttley and have his signature laugh. And funnily enough, they’re both named griswald

    Off-colored Muttley somehow also stole Rocky the flying Squirrel's hear gear.

    I think the forum it was posted on was gone, but the writer of Spruce goose said on a cartoon forum, they realized during the movie that Quigley probably owned the rights to Dastardly and Muttley, they figured a TV-Movie would get a lot more attention then a small saturday morning cartoon show, so switched to Dread Baron and Mumbly at the last minute.

    Apparently Hanna-Barbera had to create Mumbly as a Captain Ersatz, because Heatter-Quigley still owned the rights to Dick Dastardly and Muttley, so they couldn't really use the characters.

      While I don't mention Griswold by name, I DO mention there's a lot of other HB dogs that do the laugh and that I'm focusing on ones that ACTUALLY look like Muttley. Griswold has the laugh, but looks nothing like Muttley.

    Great breakdown video of the Muttley clones! And nice collection too, where’d you get the giant Muttley statue in the back?

    • @ArtificialOrangeStudios
      @ArtificialOrangeStudios  2 роки тому +2

      I got it off eBay, but I think it originally came from the old Warner Bros. stores that used to be around.

    • @andrewcb9255
      @andrewcb9255 2 роки тому +2

      @@ArtificialOrangeStudios Oh yeah that makes since. A lot of Warner Brother Studio Store merch can go for a pretty Penny, especially those statues or cookie jars. You’re lucky to have that piece in your collection

    • @ArtificialOrangeStudios
      @ArtificialOrangeStudios  2 роки тому +2

      Well, here's a tip if you decide to get one (not sure if this works for all WB Studio Store merch) is look for a European seller on eBay. You'll tend to get the merch for a more reasonable price than any American seller will try to get you to pay. The few American sellers I found with the statue wanted me to pay 6 times what any of the European sellers were selling it for, making even the more expensive shipping cost worth it.

      Also Griswald (Top Cat) and Mr. Muggins (Huckleberry Hound) are also different dog with the SAME wheezy laugh.
      Joe Barbera also said that Muttley was one of his favourite characters. He philosophy was "Put a dog in and you get a hit show" I think he was spot on.

    • @ArtificialOrangeStudios
      @ArtificialOrangeStudios  2 роки тому +1

      @@matthwe3468 Yeah, and there's also the dog in the Quick Draw McGraw segments that does have similar personality traits to Muttley. Before I edited my rambling down for the video, I mentioned them and others, but decided to remove their mentioning, because it felt pointless since I mentioned Precious Pupp doesn't look like Muttley and it's safe to say the others like Griswald, who's obviously a bulldog, and the others don't look like Muttley either. That and it would've ended up being a 30 minute video if I mentioned them all. LOL!
      So I wanted to focus on dogs who didn't just have the laugh, but also looked like Muttley. The ones who definitely felt the most like clones to me.
      Regardless thanks for mentioning them.
      I think it's also safe to say Joe Barbera was a dog guy.

    • @matthwe3468
      @matthwe3468 2 роки тому +2

      @@ArtificialOrangeStudios that's fine. It's also interesting that Mike Maltese who had been a writer for Looney Tunes (most notably Road Runner) wrote the Quick Draw shorts and later of course was a writer for Wacky Races and it's spin offs. I think it is safe to say that Snuffles's personality traits were also put into Muttley as well but instead of dog biscuits it was medals.
      Yep, Joe was definitely a dog person. I think in Dastardly and Muttley's case they were looking for recurring villains to use in more cartoons and as a life long HB fan and Wacky Races fan the copyright issues that HB had and still has with Heather Quiggly STILL bothers me cuz Dastardly and Muttley could have been in things like Laff a Lympics and Yogi's Space Race. Ah well.......

      Actually There a Trope Called "Dastardly Whiplash" Where The Villain are Mustache, Black-Wearing, Top Hat, No Goods Who Pulls Railroad Tracks and Saw Mill. Examples Like General Blight from "Bananaman", Dishonest John from "Cecil and Bernie", J. Dastardly Deeds from Atom Ant, and Literally a Number of One Off Villains from Shows Like Batfink (Mr. Flick), The Impossibles (Diabolical Dauber), and PPG (Von Nitrate).
