@JulieKhuu Hi Julie. I know you posted this video 3 years ago but it was really helpful. I am going to be remodeling a small bathroom & this was exactly what I needed!! ❤ Thank you
Small living room layout examples would be super helpful. It's great to have suggestions for storage, furniture, decor, etc, but I struggle more with how to put it all together than anything else.
Julie's, your videos are valuable because they are thorough! My favorite was when you recommended applying a dark wall color or using a bigger patterned wallpaper in the bathroom so the small space appears larger, I'm going to do this. When I was thinking about applying black to the walls of my bathroom a couple years ago, many folks said it would make it appear smaller because I don't have a window. But now that there's someone who has the knowledge recommending this for windowless small bathrooms, I'm relieved and feel more confident going forward. Additionally, I enjoy all the high-quality photos and it's evident how much time is spent finding picture examples that accurately reflect your interior/exterior designing knowledge & opinions. That being said, it took a lot of verbal signals before I realized you were placing the exhibits side-by-side to juxtapose what to avoid and what to do instead, but I still have trouble identifying which photo exhibit is meant to be avoided even though having this visual indicator is very important. As such, do you mind adding an additional visual indicator next to the exhibits to help the slowpokes like me mentally register what you're pointing out, using a ✅❌Checkmark or X-mark? Thank You!
Thank you for watching and the awesome descriptive feedback Jesse! You’re right, I’ll make it much more easy to discern the ❌s and ☑️s for future videos 👍🏻☺️
Great video confirming some well-known aspects (floating cabinets, frameless shower cabins, etc) but I find the glossy black paint and the wallpaper advice very interesting. Thanks for sharing these tips! Many viewers here might not understand how precious your channel is: these tips are not taught in design schools, and we pay tens of thousands of $ for a course.
This is not hyperbole. This is amazing advice. This is a fantastic series. Thank you for the bottom of my heart. I really needed help and felt so stressed. *sigh* Thank You!!! 🙏🏻
Your small space series has been helping me plan and properly visualize the layout of my new home. It's my first home and it's pretty small and cozy. I was nervous, but you are really empowering me! Thank you! You're the best! XOXO...
Thanks Julie, great content. It really helps me with my tiny powder room. In my master bathroom I have a 20 year old jacuzzi tub. Hard to get in and out of and would like to replace it. I've looked into a walk-in tub, which I'm not sure if I like. A smaller alcove tub or just having a shower like in your pictures, which I prefer. But that would leave my house without a tub. Can you advise which is better for resale.
Perfect timing! I'm planning a bathroom remodel for a tiny full bathroom and I've been on the hunt for tips and tricks. Great addition to the series. Keep up the great work.
I love all your videos. They are chock full of tips, explanations, photos of positive and negative examples to illustrate your point, and are really more practical than trying to just follow trends and giving generic advice. Amazing work!!
im in the process of a DIY small bathroom remodel. i have the tile removed and drywall finished, ready for design and paint and this video really helped. Now, decisions, decisions. Wish you were here Julie to help create the look !!
Julie, I appreciate how you teach the basic rules vice just showing designs. Your style tend toward modern while I’m more transitional but I can use your advice to execute my style and vision.
Ms. Julie Khuu, thank you sincerely for sharing your wisdom, tips, structural/technical building insights with us. I plan to build out my own 40 ft. tiny home, however I want it to visually feel sleek, functional, and be smart every single square inch! This video along with a few others I watched either confirmed I was on the money with some ideas and or provided me insight to be mindful of to elevate a part of the design to **TRULY** maximize both visual impact and function! Flow and function lead the way for me, however visual tranquility is a quick skip behind... So again, I thank you for sharing your knowledge and style. I also thoroughly appreciate the obvious time and effort put into each video, job well done all around and I want you to move close to town so we can go out for post-COVID cocktails and analyze design everywhere we go! ✌🏽😁🤭✊🏽😎💜💜💜
Aww, good morning@@JulieKhuu and thank you for sharing your sunshine and encouragement! I am truly beyond elated to being this home to life! By the way, your personal style in fashion is divine as well! I adore the wide sleeve look on you... It is a whole vibe! ✊🏽😎✌🏽😁💖🍾
@@JulieKhuu I hate checkers too, but I must admit I liked that bathroom of yours or at least all I could see :)) Do you think it was meant to trick the eye somehow and distract from the size? Though, I agree it was a bit in " your face" ...I would expect to see the Mad Hatter around...
This video is brilliant!!! The ideas make so much sense yet I hadn't quite fully thought of them. The images picked really illustrated the points beautifully with a good range of styles. Pausing long enough to let the photos sink in. I see why they hired you to design hotel ok bathrooms! Looking forward to watching more of your videos. May need to add this to the list of my favorite decor channels!
I've been looking at pictures of bathrooms for ideas. I didn't really know _why_ I liked them until you put a spotlight on these features. - ooooooh - I think we're going to save a lot of money on design now. thanks!
I have to say, function is first for me. I need a place for my toothbrush, hair supplies, etc. i would rather my bathroom look small but able to handle daily routines! I have two small bathrooms. I am remodeling so that I have the maximum amount of vanity couner space. That means I lose a bathtub, that's okay with me!
Then closed cabinets are the way to go Teresa! Definitely make room for a tall cabinet if you can, either linen or vanity tower for those small toiletries 👍🏻
I do not really understand people following interior design channels but not really understanding the basic principles. Interior design is FUNCTION & Aesthetics. No design lacks functionality, it is built around client's needs. All designers will ask you to de-clutter: clutter is unfunctional, unhealthy and UGLY ..How many seconds will it take to put everything you use, back, behind doors? Why must they all sit on a counter or in open shelves? Is it that hard to hide them? Or you are just looking for more chores for you? Sacrificing a bathtub for that...oh I hope you do not plan to sell your house soon ( you will be losing big time). I am a busy mom and business woman, too. I know it might be difficult to keep everything in its place all teh time but I would go insane to see all my crap displayed on the counters. By the way, did you know how unhealthy keepeing exposed toothbrushes on the counter is, if the toilet is near by? Search that up, it will help ....
This video was brilliant! We are currently in the middle of redesigning our main bathroom (but it is in a cottage in Ireland and is very tiny!). Your video has really helped me finalise my ideas and was a nice confirmation that the ideas we're thinking about are going to work! Thank you!
Love your cool, but down to earth and no-nonsense style! The photos of the navy blue wallpapered bathrooms are inspiring me to wallpaper the tiny foyer in our antique family homestead that dates to the early 1800s. I guess it's more of a vestibule, but the formal Cape Cod captain's stairs with balusters and mahogany railings go straight up, and the parlor is to the left and the dining room is to the right. Thinking the navy wallpaper with a bold but interesting (and quirky) design would look fabulous there!
I've installed bar faucets on all of my bathroom sinks. Stylish with nice finishes, well-crafted, single lever, they rotate, and are much higher up. It's very functional and they're little pieces of art.
Exactly what I was looking for! ❤️ Will implement the ideas after lockdown .Julie,Plz pray for all of us in India! The condition is worsening each day!🙁
I’m just not someone who loves shower curtains- I find them grubby, wet and too busy. There’s a thing as semi-frameless showers, this is my preference every time. Thank you for highlighting a number of parts to look out for. I think I would have liked to hear your views on tiling more, such as type for use on floors. I currently have deep brown floor tiles. I’d never recommend them to others as they show every speck of watermark and dirt- not sure if a higher gloss would have changed it -
I sooo love this video, it's like I've had a session with my very own interior designer. You're awesome, continue what you're doing. And what are the odds, one of my pins turned out to be one of your examples. I had to check my board again to be sure 😊 Can I also say that I love your eyeshadow, so fab!
Great tips! I especially like the idea of using a light colored scheme to make the space feel more open. Another trick I've used in small bathrooms is to hang a large mirror on one wall. It reflects light and makes the space feel twice as big.
Fabulous Video with so many beautiful photo examples. I have a 1960’s bathroom and haven’t remodeled it yet because I was waiting for inspiration to hit me like a bolt of lightning ⚡️. I love so many of your examples and ideas . Thank you❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hello 👋🏼 Julie, Mary here... my nn Gangsta Gran is from another online community I belong to and it is strictly for fun. I enjoyed this video and EVENTUALLY- I do have a small full bath I need to remodel, but I am saving it for last as it has tons of tile to remove and it is going to be a pain! Thanks for all of the beautiful ideas!
Extremely rich content, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge Julie! Can you please tell me if I can cover the bathroom ceiling with wall paper as well? Are there any disadvantages to doing so?
First I'm going to have two more people watching your videos...Then I will convence them to change the vanity for a pedestal sink, get rid of the door and put tile in the shower of that tiny bathroom on the hall 😄We've been talking for moths about a make over for that bathroom. Your video was in perfect timing.
Love love love these bathroom ideas. Would like to see more ideas for how to use shower curtains and decor to transform a space when you cannot change major elements (toilet, vanity.) The typical bathroom but luxury on a budget, if that makes sense. Like, if you came in my house, a typical bathroom in a moderate priced home, tub/shower combo.
So much amazing information in one video. I love all your examples and I appreciate all the work you put into this video. I have 3 bathrooms to renovate this info is timely and actionable. I wish I could give you 5 gold stars ⭐️ 🌟 💫 ✨ ⭐️ instead of one like.
I had a DIY bathroom makeover and I’m super happy to see the majority of these concepts incorporated into my bathroom! I struggle with owning a small bathroom in an old condo building. There are limitations in what I’m able to do with my space, as well as things like a pre-existing bathtub that is nearly impossible, and costly, to remove due to the lack of reinforced flooring on the second floor of the building, and old pipes that need attention so, therefore, can’t really accommodate increased water usage and drainage. I decided to glaze my tub, instead of replacing it or installing a shower, and it has made a major difference in how bright, how clean, and how fresh my bathroom looks. I wonder whether you can make a special video that addresses the limitations one might have in a DIY or in a renovation, such as having to live on the second floor in an older building that has features that are difficult to remove, a lack of reinforcement on the ceilings, floors and walls, and the inability to support or use more modern features due to the condition of the building.
I should be moving into a new small condo & bathroom is pretty small. Like some of the suggestions you have given, however, there are certain things which are fixed & we are allowed to do too much renovation at least not for the first 2 years. Wonder if I should buy diy cupboard with doors like the ones shown for extra storage.
Hi Julie! Amazing video as always! I am currently deciding on the aesthetic for my powder room renovation. I picked out a really pretty marbled porcelain tile with gray and gold veins. It's subtly dramatic, so I'm not too sure what to do for the walls. I was thinking of doing panel molding on the bottom half, but not sure if it will be too boring. Any advice? Thank you as always!
Thank you so much for these tips. I am in the planning stage of remodeling our small guest bath and thinking of using textured tiles on the focal wall where the vanity and toilet bowl are located, use a ceiling-to-vanity lighted mirror, single-lever faucet. I will use your suggestion of using the same floor tiles for the entire bathroom & shower. I initially wanted to use a chinoiserie wallpaper with large prints, a Venetian mirror, and a chandelier but I'm not sure about the durability of the wallpaper.
If the bathroom doesn’t get a ton of use and there’s a operable window Rose, then I’m sure the paper will hold up. Sounds fabulous though! I’m a sucker for chinoiserie 😍
I've had wall paper in my tiny full guest bathroom for 15 yrs, I do have regular visitors who shower. While my main bathroom is being renovated as we speak, my husband & I are showering there, no issues so far.🙂
Thanks so much! Excellent suggestions. We are remodeling now and doing a tub to shower conversion. I'll share this video with my husband. Your suggestions about extending flooring into the shower and colors really changed my thinking. Thanks!!! : )
My next project is updating the small (tiny) Jack & Jill bath between two bedrooms. It is only 4 feet wide and about 8 feet long. It has the original 1970s tile and it had wallpaper, though that is peeling off. Loved seeing these small bathrooms as it gives me ideas on what will work in this space. I have a feeling this is going to be a gut job to get everything out and redone.
Thank you. We literally just had a tile guy at the house today. Looking to tear out a bathtub and extend the shower. But not sure if that’s too big or how will pull all this off. Plus small bathroom already to paint pedestal sink gone and now I realize I should’ve done the wall mount and instead bough cabinets with sink mount.
Hi Julie, So glad you did this one. I'm in the process the re-do my guest and main bathrooms. Regarding the guest bathroom, always had been a question about the guest towels. Please note, I'm about the details and how to combine function with looks...must look good to be appreciated Do you use the paper guest towels or the "real" ones? - Paper ones, the rectangular ones that you may put in a container. I personally not sold on those ones. They look like a public bathroom to me, but then again... I'm not a designer. -"Real" towels -Where do you put them? Personally I never been a fan of the wall hoops or the small towels hangers and somehow I feel a towel bar is to big for a guest towels. On top, when some one use them never look the same and most of the time the location are a little below eye level ( BTW. Where is that location rule?..LOL). I don't plan to go the guest bathroom every time someone use it to fix the towel and paying someone to fix it...it will not going to happen, this is not the Ritz 😂. If you think about an idea, please let me know. I will continue researching and continue seeing your videos for inspiration. Thanks again and keep inspiring us !!! 🙌 Maria #TeamJulieKhuu
Hi Maria! I do both. You can see in the guest bathroom makeover where I placed the towel bar- it’s beneath the only window I have in the space. It’s approximately 32” AFF. I keep 1-2 full sized towels on this bar. I also have a small basket I keep on the counter that I fill with paper dinner napkins (heavy duty/2 ply) when I’m entertaining a group. I launder the towels after everyone leaves. Especially with Covid, I want to give guests the option of single-use paper towels 👍🏻☺️
So many great ideas in this video, thank you. We will be remodeling a very small bath (only one in the condo). I rarely see designs with our layout: Sink and toilet to the left of the door, tub to the right. About 5'x8'. We want to replace the tub with a shower, and somehow fit in a cabinet for storage. Maybe make the shower smaller than the tub?
Keep your tub. Buy a shower for over the bath. Install a roof mounted shower curtain rail. Fenales need baths. Males tend to prefer showers. Keep it light, bright, white. Or sell and move. After installing shower. Baskets can go back to individual closets. Tidy. Sorted.
Thank you for watching PS! You can integrate the shower while keeping the tub if this is the only tub in your home. You need it for resale value. If not, reducing the footprint for a full height linen closet is a great idea for additional storage 👍🏻
Wow I wished I had the money to decorate my bathroom it’s super small I can only dream when I see your videos thank you kindly love your ideas wow it’s amazing 🇨🇦🥰💕🌹🦋
Awesome inspiration! As a video idea for rentals: Could you maybe introduce us into how to combine odd outdated colors with other colors to make it trendy or at least more neutral/acceptable again? I am thinking of ugly pink, orange, green or brown colors from certain decades of the last century (e.g 70ies). In special, when the color appears in tiles, bath tub or the toilet itself, but you can't replace it in a rental. How can we still create a stylish place?
You can easily paint over dated tile! That’s what I did for my guest bathroom (see makeover video). But I do love this idea especially if you’re in a rental 👍🏻
Search "Sarah Lavoine". She's a daring French interior designer who uses bold colors. Her book "Couleurs Sarah" has hundreds of color combos with tips.
Julie as always, small spaces, especially bathrooms are a challenge. I will watch this video again because you shared so many good ideas and tips. I know you have a lot of subscribers now so if you have time to respond, go have a question. I’m starting to see many folks give up their tubs in small bathrooms for walk in showers. It makes the bathroom look larger with the frameless shower doors. I have 4 bathrooms in my house (a master bathroom with garden tub and separate shower, a powder bath -no tub or shower, and 2 small upstairs bathrooms with single vanity, toilet and bathtub. I’ve been thinking about remodeling one of the upstairs bathrooms and getting rid of the tub for a walk-in shower and wondered if I would be lessening the resale value Of my home. Are people expecting bathtubs in small bathrooms anymore? I know a tub is nice when you have small children. Mine are grown so I know they would appreciate the shower. Thoughts?
Renovating our small bathroom and the MOST functional piece I bought was a pair of recessed mirror cabinets / medicine cabinets with integrated lighting and outlets inside that we plan to charge and store my beauty devices and our electrical toothbrushes. Vanity floats and we ran an LED strip along the bottom to make it feel even more airy. I also was very conscious of cabinet doors and drawers opening into our narrow walkway space so I opted for one with sliding doors instead and our bathroom door I also changed into a pocket door. Makes a HUGE difference! Toilet I changed to one with a concealed cistern, so the tank is in the wall, but I was also considering a back-to-wall one-piece toilet which would’ve also been space saving.
Julie, what if there is absolutely no space to place a cabinet or vanity? Then how to put shampoos and other bottles so that they don’t look bad? The bathrooms of my new apartment are quite small and don’t allow much things to be placed anywhere. It also has this odd layout where the shower point is quite low. I am thinking of using a pipe and bend to extend it upwards. Is that okay? Please help. Thank you.
Find any solution you can that’s functional, then aesthetically pleasing. I typically install wall shelves, thin decks, or small cabinets for this reason Deepak.
Great video as always. Can you please make a video of stylish modern living area with some storage for a 1000sq m house please. All the videos available are for super huge homes.
Check out the first video in this series, plus how to shop and source online furniture in the Dream Space series Supriya. I share lots of options for storage
Thanks so much for all the information you provide us. I am planning reno of our home, our bathroom is so small. So I had decided to tile up the walls and I was hoping my contractor will use slabs instead of single tiles which they had accepted. Now that they're insisting of using small tiles I am thinking of painting the walls. What would you advise me?
I’m not sure I understand. You purchased the slabs already and now your contractor won’t install them? I would look for new contractors instead of switching materials Jackie. Your contractor should support your ideals, not steer you away from them 🤔

I’d never recommend them to others as they show every speck of watermark and dirt- not sure if a higher gloss would have changed it -
Check out my bathroom mistakes video for finishing tips Paris! Thank you for watching 🙏🏻☺️

I sooo love this video, it's like I've had a session with my very own interior designer. You're awesome, continue what you're doing. And what are the odds, one of my pins turned out to be one of your examples. I had to check my board again to be sure 😊
Can I also say that I love your eyeshadow, so fab!

I can’t wait for her video on how to patch up a hole in the wall, especially one as large as the hole in her Extreme Bathroom Makeover video
It will be a full on DIY video 🙌🏻☺️
Great tips! I especially like the idea of using a light colored scheme to make the space feel more open. Another trick I've used in small bathrooms is to hang a large mirror on one wall. It reflects light and makes the space feel twice as big.
Yes! The bigger the better 🙌🏻
Thank you my small bathroom has been a mind boggling challenge… your video is extremely useful😊
Really excellent selection of reference images. All stunning. ❤
Thank you so much 😀
Fabulous Video with so many beautiful photo examples.
I have a 1960’s bathroom and haven’t remodeled it yet because I was waiting for inspiration to hit me like a bolt of lightning ⚡️. I love so many of your examples and ideas . Thank you❤❤❤❤❤❤
That’s all it takes then full speed ahead Gina 🙌
I think I've been waiting for this one, though I did not know I needed it. I have a tiny bathroom! it is also bad fungshui!!!
Tons of tile sounds like my guest bathroom Mary! Same here, I saved it for last and finally now able to enjoy it (6 years later 😆)
Extremely rich content, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge Julie! Can you please tell me if I can cover the bathroom ceiling with wall paper as well? Are there any disadvantages to doing so?
I covered mine with grasscloth. Heat and humidity play a part, so make sure the paper is rated for wet areas 👍🏻
I always enjoyed watching your vlog.👍
Thank you for watching Felserna 🙏🏻☺️
Thank you so much Julie! I love all your videos! And this series in particular are going to help me win a few arguments 😆.
Thank you for watching Karina! Let me know how you plan to take over 👊🏻😄
First I'm going to have two more people watching your videos...Then I will convence them to change the vanity for a pedestal sink, get rid of the door and put tile in the shower of that tiny bathroom on the hall 😄We've been talking for moths about a make over for that bathroom. Your video was in perfect timing.
Beautiful thanks for sharing wow just the right time for me.
Hope these tips help guide you Dorrett! 🙏🏻☺️
Wonderful! Thank you for all of the info!

I’ll add more decor in the next bathroom roundup Debra! Thank you for watching 🙏🏻☺️
Great video. Stunning photos.

Thank you for watching DM! I’ll add this to my list, the video would be especially beneficial for renters as well! 👍🏻
You are doing great, been following for a while now.

love this series. You reinforced what I have planned on removing the old tub to be a shower stall.look be okay with home depot shower.

You can always wallpaper the upper half for some punch Hannah 👍🏻☺️
Thanks!!! : )
Awesome, pre-planning is the fun part! Thank you for watching K! 🙏🏻☺️
Yes, but the “after” will be glorious! You got this 🙌🏻
thanks for your tips,it is really useful for home user.
Thank you for watching 🙏🏻☺️
More cabinets equal more storage space in a small bathroom so I know you’ll make it work Jenna 👍🏻
Always enjoy your videos thx for sharing

Hi Julie,
So glad you did this one. I'm in the process the re-do my guest and main bathrooms. Regarding the guest bathroom, always had been a question about the guest towels. Please note, I'm about the details and how to combine function with looks...must look good to be appreciated
Do you use the paper guest towels or the "real" ones?
Maria

Hi Maria!
The smaller the space, the bigger you can go with design (without spending a whole lot)!

Thoughts?
Yes, you need a minimum of 1 tub for resale value. The rest can be walk-in showers if you like Teri 👍🏻
As usual helpful, thank you!

Brilliant moves Melissa! You think and design like a pro! 🙌🏻
Super helpful tips! Thanks!!
