    What are you best tips for simplifying getting dressed or put together for the day? ❤

  • @micajahsmom

    I'm retired and live in Florida. No need for cold weather clothes. I have four white tops, four pairs of jeans and four yoga pants. I do have an unlined denim jacket but only wore it twice this year because it has been so warm. I have two pairs of flip flops and several pairs of Japanese tabi socks if my toes get chilly. That's it. Works for me after a career where I had to wear very nice clothes every day. I love it. New to your channel and am enjoying watching your videos.

    It funny that we all do uniform dressing whether we have 10 exact items in our closet or 40. We tend to wear the same items in rotation even when we have a wardrobe overflowing with clothes. I noticed this about myself years ago and then I went through an entire winter rotating the same 4 sweaters and two pairs of jeans. And never looked back, started capsule wardrobe and uniform dressing from then on.I try to keep close to that number still, no less than 4 sweaters but sometimes it’s 5 or 6 sweaters with 2-3 pairs of jeans and tights for weekends or days when am home all day. Currently my extras are t-shirts from the summer with a cardigan or two. I always have at least one cardigan in my wardrobe for easy layering. It’s the same in the summer but my summer wardrobe has a bit more variety but still relatively small 10-14 items.

    I cycle through four dresses for in the house. They air dry and what ever is on the right side of the closet is which one I wear next. I stopped worrying about clothes a few years ago. Makes like so much easier. Black leggings on cold days with either a light or medium weight cardigan. I stopped putting product in my hair so its always just natural. I make two braids or one depending on the day. I dont wear make up anymore. And only wear light powder when going out. And i can just go about my business. Im barefoot 99% of the time. Getting ready in the morning is like 10 min out of my day. Its life changing especially with 3 littles.

      I will say that wearing a sport bra every day makes getting dressed for the day much easier than fussing with uncomfortable bras. I don't use wire bras anymore either, so it's nice when someone knocks on the door and I look put together no matter what. (Yesterday I saw a sign that said "Knock, knock... Hold on let me put my bra on!" And it reminded me of early baby years😅. So I thought I'd mention the sports bra tip. I use cotton for more comfort.

      There's a part of me that thinks I'm definitely a uniform person in the winter. I like your approach of having a uniform but with a little variety. I'm also learning that I prefer dark, patterned clothes. Because they don't show the results of messy, sticky hands! 😂

    • @Katy_living_simply

      @@papertownhome I'm naturally a solids person with very minimal print. Black and white stripes are my favorite. But after having kids I have mostly floral patterns to hide all the baby finger grime. 😂. And have opted for brighter colors. In my teens I went to cosmetology school and the uniform was black. I wore black primarily for like 15 years. These past 4 years I decided to change it up. And use Oatmeal or cream as my base color now. Which is a nice change. Feels more feminine. I was more edgy before.😅

    I tend to have a ‘uniform’ of grey jeans, and a t shirt all year around. If its colder then I will put a sweater/fleece top over the t shirt. I only wear dresses when its really hot weather. (We don’t tend to get heatwaves in the UK often or for long). Ive noticed I don’t tend to wear skirts and rarely wear shorts, but might do for gardening or for a bit of variety.

    I was watching this again & really liking your style. I live in Norway, on a farm, and sometimes with barn clothes/work clothes I start to feel very blah… this summer I upgraded to linen button up over homemade linen tee or old fave tee. with blue jeans & so far the button up is helping me feel oddly more put together. Plus my big straw hat… and this may well be my summer uniform. Evenings we shower and lounge wear is probably going to be a linen dress or a lacey flowy summery nightgown with a long cream cotton cardigan over it. Comfort but feels flowy and feminine & layers because menopause haha… I find cottons & linens keep the hot flashes down.

    • @papertownhome
      @papertownhome  4 місяці тому

      I love these ideas! I need more light layering options in the summer. And, I love anything that makes me feel a little more pulled together. Might have to look into button ups. I love having a jean jacket to finish and outfit, but they're a so heavy for our humid summers.

    All my clothes are either of three colors. Black, gray, and white.
    I’m a Pre-K teacher so I’m on the floor A LOT or squatting down to their level. This calls for ALL clothes being comfy. Winter is long sleeve t-shirts, 2 pair of black or gray pants, and black boots. Warmer months I have short sleeve t-shirts, black or gray skorts, with Teva type sandals. I do have an oversized black/gray striped sweater and one black cardigan for cooler months. At home I’m always in my high waisted leggings that I have 2 of and a sweatshirt or tank top.
    Not much else and makes getting ready easy. Oh, I do have one pair of jeans. 😁
    Like Katy I don’t do make-up (or just some powder on going out times) and LOVE to be barefoot. Never wear shoes inside!!!!

    I've been wanting to experiment with a 10 item wardrobe, and this is the push I needed. I have minimized enough that I think I'm almost accidentally doing 333 on a daily basis. (I have about 60 pieces, total, including pajamas and loungewear, tanks, gym clothes, etc. but apparently those don't count in 333.) I've still been feeling like I have about twice as much as I need and it feels overwhelming, but I do use all of them, so I've been stuck. This seems like a good idea to see what I actually need, just testing it for a week. I love how you said it made you want to take care of yourself. I definitely also just default to loungewear and pj's most days, especially in colder months. Today I put on jeans and a nicer sweater to take my daughter to the orthodontist, and I noticed the same thing: I put on makeup for the first time in forever because I felt pretty.

    Uniform for me all year round, I usually only change out length and thickness of pants, mild winters here in Australia. I use layers and have 1 micro fibre jacket. I have had to change to linen and cotton this year due to hot flushes, so I may need to put some things away as I am only wearing certain clothes, I may not even wear jeans this winter. I really enjoy your videos :)

    I absolutely love this!! Postpartum I did two leggings and 3 flannel button ups. Then as my size changed I was able to do a pair of jeans and 4 tshirts. I’m at a pretty stable weight now so I have a larger wardrobe (all four seasons, plus coats and shoes, is about 28ish pieces). But it was definitely fun to have an EXTREME minimalist wardrobe. The ONLY reason I have more now is because I have a little more mental energy to give toward getting dressed.

    • @papertownhome
      @papertownhome  7 місяців тому +1

      Mental energy is SOOO key! I was the same way postpartum. Leggings, T-shirts that were easy to nurse in and a top layer (flannel, cardigan, jean jacket). LOVED that wardrobe for that season!

    Love this experement, it's cool to see such a small wardrobe. For the colder months I do a uniform of five short dresses and leggings, with two sweaters. I love the uniform element, because then I don't have to think about mixing and matching. Also, I love your videos 💜 and often repeat them because they're so enjoyable. I did want to comment on something that was a bit challenging for me in this video. I don't know why, but when you were folding the garments and voice covering an explanation of what they were-- my brain couldn't listen to the voice over and look at the cloths at the same time. I think it's either because you listed them out of order, or because the audio didn't corispond with the specific item in the visual. I just couldn't visualize what the words were saying, because the visible data was different. I don't know if this was just me, which is totally possible, or other people had to watch that part multiple times to understand which items you chose for the wardrobe. Like I said, it might just be me though 🤷

    • @papertownhome
      @papertownhome  7 місяців тому +1

      I love a uniform! Even after doing this experiment I found myself wondering if I'm just a uniform girl in the winters. I might need that level of simplicity.
      Good note about the mismatch between items shown versus items listed. I tend to be a little casual in that kind of stuff, but it's good to know it can cause confusion. I'll keep it in mind going forward!

    • @anashappydays
      @anashappydays 7 місяців тому +1
