    A tool that is great for cutting perfectly round flat shapes out of styrene is a leather punch. Typically the blade features about six sizes.

    I'm working in 1/72 to make an ore barge to go with my lindberg tugboat. This video was helpful since I'm new to styrene

    Very nice, two thumbs up. At the end of the video there is a pier that looks to be made of wood. Did you make that too? Keep 'em comin' !!!

    Hey dj. The posts that the ropes are lashed around are called bollards. I searched "n scale ship bollards" and there are many n and ho options, both plastic and metal

  • @1tombensky

    Excellent video, DJ! Really like the rattle can paint mixing technique. Are those rope attachment points called bollards?

    I would love to see how to easily weather gravel hoppers.

    • @djstrains
      @djstrains  10 років тому

      Earlier this year, I think, Model Railroader did a multi issue article about modelling a quarry & gravel plant. They did a great job on the weathering the hoppers. If I can find that article, I'll let you know.

      djstrains The article you would be looking for is in the April 2013 issue of Model Railroader - "Build a quarry branch Part 4: HO scale rolling stock painted for quarry service".

    DJ I having watcging a lot of your videos on my sattelite tv ( it has acces to you tube) and learn a lot from them (your videos) The reson is, that a got virus on my computer and for a wile I coul not use it. Anyway is to bad that on my tv I can not log in to leave a comment. Because your videos are very informative on models and the real trains. So thanks for posting all that cool info. Merry Christmas.

    • @djstrains
      @djstrains  10 років тому

      UA-cam changed their comment settings a while back, making it confusing and difficult for everybody. You should have seen me rant when I couldn't even comment on my own videos! They did some changes with Google+, and it is supposed to help prevent spam, but I struggle with learning new tech stuff. Anyway, glad you like the videos. If there is anything you want to see in the future, send me an email to djstrains dot com (I can't even put a link in my own comments, lol). Thanks, Merry Christmas.

    Nice work. looking for example of a scratch built barge as model companies are charging $50 for a single HO barge.

    • @djstrains
      @djstrains  7 років тому +2

      WOW! Ha, this cost me about $4. in styrene. I am always looking for cheaper ways of building stuff. I saved tons of money by making my own bridge piers, buildings and such. I have a lot of videos showing that, I hope you can check out. Thanks!

    Very nice. Are you going to add some rope and debris and stuff to it?

    • @djstrains
      @djstrains  10 років тому

      yes. I've been working a lot for CSX, and also building a module for a train show. But the rope is a must, also a coal load.

      @krowe33 10 років тому

    I love your videos dj! I am starting a new HO layout and i wanted to make a small river/stream as well as a little town and a steel mill. Do you think that will look good? Oh ya, thanks for subscribing to me! I gave you a shoutout.

    • @djstrains
      @djstrains  10 років тому +1

      Yes. Most steel mills are located by water, and of course you need a town for the workers. Have fun with it, and by the way, my daughter loves trash packs.
