I’ll be easy. We will tow twice a year and the truck will sit in an air conditioned garage for about 4 years for you. Might have 15,000 miles and will receive an oil change every year. The truck will be ceramic coated with a 7 year ceramic so you have time before you have to wax it. 😊

Don’t worry!! I’m gonna install a lift, 24” rims, and 37” tall mud tires. Don’t worry though, I’ll never take it off-road or tow anything with it. Just take it to parking lots or cars and coffee.

The price of new and late model trucks is insane. In 1978 my dad paid 2,200$ for a 1974 Ford F-250 with a 6.4 litre 390 FE 4 barrel 4 speed 2wd, with 46,000 miles and 1 ton brakes and springs.

The last 3 brand new vehicles have actually made me money. I bought a 2020 GMC 1500 SLT for $66k and sold it for $67k 8 months later. Then I bought a 2021 GMC 1500 AT4 for $62k and sold 6 months later for $64k. Then I bought a 2022 GMC 2500HD AT4 for $71k and just sold it for $74.5k. It’s actually cheaper to buy a new vehicle

What the gas trucks really need are much larger gas tanks. I replaced my 34 gallon Tremor gas tank with a Transfer Flow 58 gallon replacement tank so you know there is plenty of room for the mfg to make it standard or an option.

I'm pretty much a base truck guy. I see the advantage in adding upgraded mechanicals but I'm never on board with $40,000 in tech and pretty finishes.
    I'm not a Luddite.
Rear and front cameras are great.
    Smart cruise control is awesome.
    Wireless Android Auto. 👍🏻
I'd pay a reasonable price for all of these features.
Leather interior is fantastic but in a work truck?
It's about value for my money and I just don't see the value there.
I can't even really pull the trigger on a base truck because I do tech work from home and probably drive a thousand miles a year.
The couple of times a year where I need a truck, I just rent one. My annual cost is less than my registration fees would be. No insurance and no truck payment.

The reason I drove a 250 was the feeling of safety if someone ran into me. In a potential head on if it isn't a semi you don't have to hit the throttle. In a mountain road to the beach in Oregon this happened and the Ford driver lived both towing a fifth wheel. A guy said to me, what would you rather be photographed next to when I was considering a convertible so I bought the 250.

If I got back into a super duty, I'd go for something similar. I've had 4 diesels, but the diesel benefits have eroded between emissions BS and the gas engines getting better. I'm excited to see how the new 6.8 turns out.
I swapped my last diesel truck out for a 2019 f150 3.5 ecoboost with the max tow package 3 years ago. The ecoboosts are no joke. They tow a lot better than most people realize and are stupid fast when tuned.

    • @andrewrife6253
      @andrewrife6253 Рік тому +4

I'd bet the 6.8 will be 400hp at least. 400 seems to be the benchmark for 1/2 tons and the 6.8 would be really easy to make 400 reliably. The 7.3 will probably be 450hp with closer to 500ftlbs of torque and will likely make the old 7.3 and 6.0 diesels irrelevant in power. People are getting much more with just tuning but in factory conditions I see these engines really changing the game.

After that time through the years we RV'd to every state first with our kids and then Grandsons. We have had Vans and currently trucks. Just like how everyone has cameras everywhere copying ford. The 2 different diesel options having a HO is like Ram does. Chevy is copying the winch. Ford is getting the HUD. Soon they will all add the tailgate camera. Everyone try’s to complete with the competition and copy what sells which is better for consumers. Great interview and very useful information, thanks JD. I sure would like to have one of the new Tremors. The only drawback to the Ford Tremor I can see is that they do not make it with the long bed. GMC's AT4 does, which for me is the only advantage that gmc has over the Ford. I've had several pickups with the 8 foot bed and several with the 6.5 foot bed, and the 8 foot bed wins hands down every time for utility. Especially if you put an auxiliary fuel tank in the bed, or a tool box. Once you add either one of those to a short bed, there's just not much room left in the bed.

    Nice overview JD.
That being said when you get a chance to engage an executive I’d love if you were more of a journalist and less of a fan.
For example when he talks about the new safety chain connection points you could have asked him why it’s taken them so long to address this.
    Other good questions.
Why spend the money to develop the 6.8? Why not just make the 7.3 standard?
What about the CP4 fuel pump issues that have been widely reported?
What about the death wobble issues that have also been widely reported?
Just to cite a couple of examples.

This is still very preliminary but from what is shown in this video, Ford continues to innovate and push the design, styling and performance envelope. That said, here are a few key points which remains to be seen and was not shown in this video:
    • The digital instrumentation - will Ford keep the traditional analog Speedo & Tach with the round dials or did they go with the goofy F150 digital display that was shown in the 2022 F150 Raptor? Let's hope they didn't go the Raptor route!!!
    • The new 6.7 Powerstroke must be pushing 550HP and maybe even 1200 FT-LBS with that liquid cooled turbo!!!
    • Lastly, did Ford fix their transmission lockout problem that prevents the driver from using an open palm to push the shift lever from D into N in an emergency (disconnecting the engine from the drivetrain) without fear of engaging R?!!! All Ford's competitors do not have this issue and nor do cars from BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Toyota, Honda, Lexus just to name a few!!! Come on Ford - did you fix it or did you intentionally design in a bad safety feature?!!!

Sure would be nice if they'd get all the bugs out of a few choices and then stop reinventing the wheel.
I ran squad, rescue, and fire for decades to unwind after dealing with engineers and architects at my real job.
The pre turbo 7.3's could pull a house down but took a while to build speed. The turbo versions were great but cramming them into the E chassis medics was an overheating and service problem.
For work, the company bought whatever they could get a deal on.
I got tired of the company's no radio no a/c, underpowered, uncomfortable service vehicles so I bought my own Ford XLT lariat extended cabs, or heavier extended vans to haul my tools and travel in.
PLEASE PICK AN ENGINE, GET THE BUGS OUT, AND LEAVE IT ALONE.
Dip or treat so the darn things won't start rusting right away.
Weve had several family minivans and I've had '76, '84, '86, '89, '94, '99, and '04 Ford work vehicles (I travelled 9 states). The first aod trans had their issues but didn't hunt like crazy. I loved the manuals unless I was stuck in city traffic or a jam.
Our newer minivan is constantly shifting and doesn't get the same mileage as our '01. Anyone who designs a vehicle that the cab has to come off of to work on/ change an engine should be immediately terminated. Much like burying vacuum canisters and blend door actuators. Serviceability is key.
I was an honor grad of an auto and diesel tech program in '81, then started travelling, working on industrial and institutional equipment.
I'm a firm believer in the old KISS philosophy.
I've been buying OLDER vehicles, much like truckers are buying pre computer gliders. They are easier to service and repair and a headlight and it's ballast aren't $1000.
These damn trucks are rusting two years in and cost as much or more than what I've paid for my homes.

HOPEFULY this would be taken as constructive criticism. How about creating your own fuel pump for the 6.7 diesel? The Bosh you are using fails at the smallest fuel contamination and throws debris into the fuel system costing thousands in repairs. Because of this two mods have been created to filter the fuel again before the fuel pump and after , so it doesn't throw debris back into the tank. It is a shame that this has to be done to a new truck at extra expense . Chevy got rid of the Bosh fuel pump for their Duramax and are doing very well. I love Diesel engines and would love to buy a Ford but this fatal flaw stops me from doing it.
