    Very Good video - extension tubes are the best bang for the buck - contacts and metal mounts are recommended...

      @edverosky  5 років тому +1

      Agreed. I did really enjoy using the Canon 180mm macro, but it's really expensive for a type of photography I don't do often.

    Great video Ed. I have a set of tubes without any electrical contacts because, like you, I wasn't going to try and let the camera autofocus BUT I very quickly found that I am limited to always shooting at the widest aperture for whatever lens I'm using - I have no way of stopping down to squeeze a tad more depth of field in to my image; bit of a limitation ;-).

    • @edverosky
      @edverosky  5 років тому

      Yeah, that's true. I know that on my Canon lenses I used to be able to stop them down, pull them off the camera and they'd stay stopped down while off (I'm hoping I'm remember this correctly). But I haven't tried this with my Sony lenses.

      If you put the aperture you want and then remove the lense without turning off the camera the aperture will stay at the value you set it. Then just add the extension tubes and shoot. But if you want the metadata you need contacts.

    Hi i got a question. Could you use these extenders in conjunction with teleconverters? so...say if you have a Sony 135mm f1.8, stick on the extension tubes on the back, then stick on the teleconverter to the extension tubes. to give you extra reach...would that be possible? Thanks

    For a canon,100mmLf2.8 IS, super macro for Canon MP-E 65 5:1 , for Olympus the 60mm Macro f2.8,a gem of a lens, couple this with the Raynox 250 DCR the combination gives outstanding images. Forget the rings and go full macro, you won't regret it, oh and don't forget the closer you get the more light you need.

    Will the minimal focus distance change using these or does it only effect the Lens FoV?? I.E can I get closer to my subject, I'm using a Sony 85mm 1.8 and it has a significant focus distance.

    Good review. really helps. i have subscribed..Hi.. my question is.. Can a 1.2 ratio macro lens take a picture as1.1 ratio if i use extension tube..Thanks if you can advise.. I am using sigma 17mm - 70mm macro lens that 1.2 ratio..

    • @BeetleBuns

      yes it can, but you will need to do some research about how many millimeters you will need to add to make it go from 1:2 to 1:1

    Thanks! Great video. In your opinion it would make sense o buy two sets and stack them together in order to have a stronger macro effect?

    • @edverosky
      @edverosky  4 роки тому +1

      Yes, to a point. It can to the point where the lens is actually touching the subject and it’s hard to get the proper lighting.

    Hi! I heard that metal mount version of these would damage my sony camera mount over time, is that true?

    • @BeetleBuns
      @BeetleBuns 3 роки тому

      no, the mounts on lenses are metal as well so this should have no impact

    • @jtayefeh
      @jtayefeh 3 роки тому

      it probably will drop sharpness a bit but it shouldn’t be much. especially since you are up close the image will still look quite sharp with higher mp cameras

    If your lens has a motorised manual focus, you'll need the pins for any focusing except moving the camera.

    i have had a complete failure of the neewer ones, the 21 broke apart between sigma 100-400 and two x2 converters, while they worked and focused great i would not recommend them for heavy expensive stuff.
    fortunately it broke apart while the system was on my table transferring images.
    i purchased canon ones instead

    For focus stacking then AF is important..

    • @lesoo3
      @lesoo3 4 роки тому +2

      no you don't need auto focus for stacking you focus on the front of your subject and then using your camera on a focus rail you move it closer each frame lets say 1mm per shot until you have covered your subject

    Forget the extensions tubes as well. Once you put a heavy lens (Sony 90mm) on it, the connectors lose contact and aperture control (and focus if used) are gone. Perhaps a bellow is the better alternative but I didn´t test it out yet.
    To be honest: buy a macro lens and accept the fact that 1:1 is what you can get out of your lens with good quality. Once you go further the quality will become poorer. It will still work out for science but not for a quality photographic work.

    • @edverosky
      @edverosky  5 років тому

      Longer focal lengths don’t benefit as much with tubes. And definitely go with a good macro lens if you can. I loved the Canon 180mm; it allows you to get incredible macro at a useful distance. The bellows I’ve tried didn’t result in great images and are a hassle to use. Thanks!
