    Thanks for the video, Nora. It’s amazing how many remote work options have opened up. I also started traveling in 2007. I was able to get by in the early days working as an English teacher in Mexico, a nanny in France, etc. I remember wanting to find online work back then, but the opportunities were limited. Now I’m able to work online teaching and writing. I’m still working on the transition from freelancer to entrepreneur. It’s been a challenge, but it’s a worthwhile pursuit. I appreciate your insight!

      Yes, and despite my years in the business, it doesn't get any easier to deal with (personally speaking).

    I'm very curious about what the colors signify on your world map on the wall?

    • @NoraDunn
      @NoraDunn  5 місяців тому +1

      It's a scratch map! When I've been somewhere, I can scratch off the gold overlay and it reveals colours underneath. I don't believe there's any method to the colouring other than aesthetics.

    I think I’m an odd hybrid who fits somewhat in all the boxes. Do you consult professionally to help people like me? So… I live part of my year as a digital nomad, with a home base in LA. I’m wondering if you’ve met people like, and if you have suggestions for someone like me. (1) I’m a university professor (or more accurately now I’m an adjunct professor who is no longer full-time) who teaches online much of the year. So there’s the education piece. It sounds like there’s a lot out there for digital nomad educators. (2) I’m a researcher/scientist and stats/research design/writing consultant who collaborates with people in various corners of the world. I think this part has been pretty straightforward to translate into a digital nomad lifestyle part of the year. (3) I’m a clinical psychologist with clients I meet with periodically. Being an online clinician is remarkable, but comes with all sorts of legal, ethical, and clinical limitations. So I’m looking to get ideas from digital nomad clinicians, if such people exist. In the US, there are rules/laws that complicate where and how you can do remote work. For instance, if someone is suicidal and/or homicidal back in California, it’s really bad if you the clinician are online in some far away place in Asia, Europe or Africa.. Do you know clinicians working this lifestyle and what they do? Oh and I'm also in my early 60's, so probably jurassic compared to most who cultivate "the lifestyle."

      Hi David,
      You are in good company - and far from "jurassic"! Ha ha!
      I have a friend who knows digital nomad mental health practitioners of various ilks, and I'm not sure how they manage this obstacle.
      Tell you what: I learned about these nomads from my friend's podcast. Here are two episodes featuring such people; if you check out the episodes and/or their contact info I"m sure they'll have more info:

      Thanks! Great. I'll look soon. PS. After one trip, I'm liking the Exped Typhoon 15 Backpack as a small lightweight personal item carry-on (to go with my Tortuga backpack). Fits nicely inside the bigger backpack at times, . If there's a drawback for me, it's that as a daypack, it's not "anti-theft." It's probably smaller and less stylish than you prefer. @@NoraDunn

      @@davidpeterzell789 Thanks for weighing in! Glad you like the Exped. You're right - it would definitely be too small for me, but then again I carry a lot of tech.

    • @davidpeterzell789
      @davidpeterzell789 4 місяці тому +1

      I think I carry a lot of tech, but I h-h-h-hate being stuck with too much stuff, e.g. on those airlines that measure and weigh all the carry-on stuff or don't allow a personal carry-on in addition to the main bag. Exped has a larger version of the Typhoon. I wonder how that would fare with you. Not as stylish as what you carry... @@NoraDunn

      @@davidpeterzell789 I also despite having too much stuff, which is why I love travel gear and gizmos that are ultra-light and multi-purpose. Still tho it can add up. Right now I have a personal item bag that is 24L and I feel like that's about as small as I can go for long-term travel with carry-on only.
