Sorry Julie, the song was written by BC Jean and Toby Gad and sung by BC Jean. Beyoncé later covered it and the song became world famous. Angelina Jordan now upgraded it. 🙂
Julie, it is difficult to understand how you went years without listening to Angelina's rich and powerful voice. She is my favorite singer storyteller, always making me feel like I am part of the story. I do hope you will react to some of the many performances you have missed.

Actually the original artist who sang If I Was A Boy was the co writer of the song BC Jean,the other Co writer was Toby Gad,later the song was COVERED by Beyoncé, Toby chose Angelina to reinvent the song, he mentioned Angelina has the talent and emotion needed, in most people’s opinion Angelina has upgraded the song and I agree she is on another level, a phenomenal performance from the most talented singer I have ever seen or heard,great reaction thanks 🙏

A cover only in the sense that what Beyoncé made was a cover of the song written by BC Jean and Toby Gad, originally performed by Jean in 2008. Beyoncé's cover was that same year.
In this video the pianist is Toby Gad .. yes the same co-writer of the song .. the Piano Diaries are a celebration of his hit songs. He invited Angelina to England with him to perform .. this is the seventh version I have heard.
I am not sure if it is really a cover when a singer is standing next to the composer as they jam to create a different version of the song.
