    Hi Phil. I am so thrilled about this. I adore all of Jeff's music and love Vanilla Fudge. Happy that they have given a fitting reappraisal of this period of Jeff's career. I pre ordered and watched your video a few times... and because of that... I cannot wait to receive it. Thank you dear Sir. Absolutely love your enthusiasm on this and all your videos. Thanks a million.

    My Beck gateway was Truth then Blow ( I have three vinyl copies and a CD of Blow) first bought when I was a young teen. Played Blow and later Wired until there were no grooves left. Now I'm 62 and have everything Beck did including his work with various bands in the 60,s. Absolute fan.

    Hi Phil, I recall seeing BBA at the City Hall in Newcastle in 1973 and I look forward to hearing this newly-discovered live album, it will evoke great memories. I like your reference to Badger, a wonderful band who seem to have drifted away to nothingness in today's evaluations of music, but their White Lady album is amongst my favourites of all time. The title track of course features a sizzling Jeff Beck solo. Thanks for this video. Best wishes, Paul

    I pre-ordered this as soon as I saw it announced, expect it maybe to arrive mid-month (?) -- but when I ordered, I didn't think at all. And hadn't thought at all about the packaging, the book et al -- so this was a treat to see and increase my anticipation greatly, thankfully much closer to its arrival. And what I REALLY didn't think about was "what they had been listening to" in the gap between the live performances... this was really insightful and exciting, Phil!

    Hi Phil! Hope you are well my friend. Phil, have you read the biography on Jeff Beck written by Martin Power? Great book and the definitive biography on Jeff. In that book it lays out all the various incarnations of the Jeff Beck Group that existed, however briefly, between basically the dissolution of the second Jeff Beck Group with Bob Tench and the beginning of BBA. There were several different lineups that existed and most didn't record in the studio but toured live. You said that BBA didn't want a lead singer but actually they did initially want a lead vocalist and toured as a five piece with Bob Tench and Max Middleton with Beck, Bogert, and Appice. Ultimately they decided to go it just as a three piece, thus BBA as we know it. However it is very interesting to know that the first playing that Appice and Bogert did with Jeff Beck was as a five piece with a lead vocalist and Middleton on keyboards. They actually tried a singer named Kim Milford who only lasted 1 or 2 gigs first. After Milford basically folded onstage, Jeff Beck rehired Bobby Tench to step back in so the touring wouldn't be cancelled during late 1972-very early 1973. This is with Bogert on bass and Appice on drums. So, at that point the lineup was Beck, Bogert, Appice, Milford then Tench on vocals, Max Middleton keys. This is all BEFORE the first BBA record.

    Hi Phil, Great review, I've ordered my copy. Love Jeff Beck, Bought the Live In Japan double back in the day, on import cost me an arm and a leg from HMV in Manchester if I recall. It didn't get good reviews at the time, some people said they all sounded stoned but I loved it. I was also so lucky to see them at the Free Trade Hall in 74, same tour as the Rainbow Gig. A lifetime ago but from what I remember an amazing gig. Keep up the good work Phil, and hope your keeping well.

    This was a great band, nice to see a box set that acknowledged their efforts, Jeff Beck prematurely broke up the band without speaking to Carmine or Tim, he took off one day
    and went back to England because he had a fight with his girlfriend and never bothered to tell them anything, according to Carmine Appice.

    • @rockrecordreport7136
      @rockrecordreport7136 9 місяців тому

      They both saw it coming as Tim and Jeff were not getting along. It was said that Tim threw a punch at Beck, and the writing was on the wall the next second. Bogert also refused (musically) to lay down a groove for Beck, and wanted to be only a "lead" bass player. So Appice should not have been surprised at all. Perhaps he wasn't surprised, it was just that Beck never told anyone, and just walked away which was the only surprising part. Anyway, no shocker at all that it imploded. Oh and it was Bogert that refused to sign off on the Rainbow show being issued on LP by Epic records in '74. He (being bitter) must have figured he's going to pay everyone back and be a grinch about it refusing to let it get a release.

    I always compare the Beck, Bogert and Appice album to the Blind Faith album. A good album from a supergroup of great players and yet it didn't quite match up to expectations. If those albums had been released by a band of nobodies, everyone would be happy but because every musician on both albums are top, top musicians, people say they are slightly disappointing.

  • @donhadfield2835
    @donhadfield2835 11 місяців тому +1

    One of the best could-have-been bands, as an 18 year old at the time of the Supergroups it was both fascinating and disappointing. For different reasons BBA didn't go because of musical differences and West, Bruce and Laing were too drugged out. They created some great music but there could have been so much more.

    Hi Phil, is it crankable? some of these modern releases are overly bright and are real ear bleeders when the volume is turned up.

    • @NowSpinningMagazine
      @NowSpinningMagazine  11 місяців тому

      Taking aside the fact the recordings are 50 years old. They were remixed and supervised by Jeff Beck before he died. I am very happy with this. I have not played it though headphones but it has been played at a fair volume and sounds great to me.

    I bought the original album on the back of being a fan of Vanilla Fudge but didn't rate it.
    I'm not a fan of Jeff Beck but arguably, he is the bigger name of the three (at least here in the UK).
    Sounds like a contractual obligation album to me and nothing really stands out.
    "Why Should I Care?" sounds a lot like "Wild Side of Life".

    I can't justify £65 on Amazon as a pre-order price for a 4 CD set - it's going to have to come down to about half that price before I'd even consider it, much as I would like to own it.

    • @jimmycampbell78
      @jimmycampbell78 11 місяців тому +3

      Yes I have to agree. The book and the poster are high quality but its still not worth that. This is a £30 boxset not a £65 set. This is why I never bought the fancy Jethro Tull things. I also don’t believe in “collectors prices” for this type of stuff. It is sheer greed. I do not wish to sound crass but I believe one day, when a particular generation or two have passed on, this stuff will be worth 50p in Oxfam.

    • @terrydaktyllus1320

      @@jogischulz2576 @thevampire2598 Sometimes Amazon grossly overestimates the pre-order price anyway so I will wait for the actual price on release. I haven't bought any of the Black Sabbath special editions yet but some of those have dropped in price considerably since release and I may now pick up one or two of them. I guess we will see what happens on release day.

    • @terrydaktyllus1320

      @@jimmycampbell78 I really don't think it's fair asking more than about £5 per CD in a box set, unless there's some really fantastic packaging, written words and extras. I picked up the Magnum box set for about £32 which is pushing it in price as a 6 CD collection, bearing in mind I have all the albums on CD already anyway.

    • @NowSpinningMagazine
      @NowSpinningMagazine  11 місяців тому +1

      I would come in at £50 which it may arrive at although the the print run is not large. As for the Jethro Tull Deluxe sets obviously I love them and have reviewed them all. To me they are the bench mark for reissues. Will they be worth 50p in 20 years? I don’t know, possibly but I want to enjoy my collection now. I was very negative towards the 50th anniversary Dark Side of The Moon box set, but quite a few people who bought it absolutely love it! That made me think if a similar box celebrating Machine Head appeared would I buy it? The answer is I would be seriously tempted! Phil :)

    It’s too bad, but it seems as though Jeff Beck had a problem with working with Frontmen vocalists. Tim and Carmine had excellent harmony vocals. Also, they had a hard time coming up with songs the studio album is good, but could’ve been great.the live album recorded in Japan to me Sounded kind of thin I always thought they should’ve retained Pete French as a vocalist since he was in the last version of cactus.
