Can't wait to see how Starlink works with my phone with Rogers, which is the service I'm using now. Doesn't come out till late 2025. We do more hiking than anything so I don't think this one is ideal for hiking 6 hour a day. Thanks for sharing.

I have had a StarLink dishy for 3 years now in remote France 🇫🇷 I love it, set it up myself, I'm 75 so no ladder work! It's just on the ground in a field. But I was horrified to see how much you pay for the monthly service! I only pay €40 per month for a standard, static contract. In fact 3 years ago when I purchased Starling it was €50 per month then they reduced it. Elon Musk had to take the French government to court se real times before Starlink was allowed to "trade" here. My dishy arrived in 24 hours, but from Germany! Plug dc power cable directly in usb-c 100w PD port on your power station (assuming you have one) That way you do have to power up the inverter. Might need a 5521 barrel connector female to female adapter between the USB-c cable and the Starlink cable. Or just put a 100 watt usb-c adapter in the 12V port on your power station.
A couple notes: Fed Gov gave Billions to Internet providers to connect the "last mile". I have a friend that lives 20 miles from the nearest Fiber point - his Power company installed both Power and Fiber, he now has Gig fiber at his 150 acre ranch in the middle of nowhere! A wired, Ethernet connection from whatever your internet connection is, is Always best. A Deco Mesh WIFI system would be perfect for your home - three units could cover all your buildings (metal and all) and should be plugged into whatever you use for internet access!
I think home Starlink is for people who don't have fiber, which is a lot of rural people. So, while everything you said has merit, it doesn't really help anyone if they don't have fiber available. Also, fiber isn't useful at all for coverage on the go or off the grid (like at the beach or in the forest, like in the video). Something like SL mini is built for that.
Well, I have Century link. I have 3 to 5 gigs max. Everything has to be plugged into the router/modem to work properly . I can stream video on 1 TV but want 2 . Also, I have 6 ring cameras. Tried Huges network, but it's not any better. For $35,000 I can get a cable from road dug in and $120 per month after. So starlink is my last option , legal option that is. Wondering if the mini has good wifi and can push wireless cameras out 400 feet or so. I want someone to test this thing. Or I will just get it and do my own video. Because Huges network was supposed to be great too.

Why didn't you use the DC power cord to plug it into the DC input of your solar battery bank vs routing it through AC and wasting a power in the conversion process? If it's DC capable, did they not also send a DC cord (typically with the cigarette plug)?
thank you for this informative video, reminds me the small entenna in the eighties to have tv and radio. You still need that big block to power. You installed on your pc, is it available for Mac? Do you have sim cards in your phones and are you using apple or other phones? it seems a good idea for people like you away from the city.
Thanks for watching! We have sim cards, but you can use it without sim cards if you use WIFI. The Starlink set up does need a power source, which is why we used the power station. It will work with Mac and PC.
Any thoughts to creating a semi permanent enclosure/bay on the top of your vehicle and/or also running the Starlink Mini off of just the vehicle battery? Is natural light line of sight required(I.e. can you place it under a ceiling panel/covering)? Is mobile app connectivity required once the link is active? Does the app provide a usage dashboard? Aside from some face washouts and asking the star their opinion at the end of the piece, this was a very good video. Thanks.
Thank you!! I've seen a few people do this through the skylights in their cars. It seems to work, but you need to purchase the plan that allows the unit to travel (like the roam plan). You can definitely set it up so that it is powered off of the vehicle battery because it doesn't take much to run. For us it's just easier to use the power station because then we can truly take it with us anywhere (even backpacking). It won't work if there is something blocking the line of sight to the sky though. I'm not sure if you can connect everything without the app. We've never tried that so I don't know if that's possible.

The internet has to be plugged in to work. The power station will work by itself as long as it still has battery power. I've seen people connect it to car batteries and it seems to work, but I've never tried it. For us, the power station is the best option because we can take Starlink anywhere by using the power station to power it.
That's good, it will let you stream 4K video without buffering, and you could even play FPS computer games well with that speed. Too bad about the insane monthly price though.

Watching other reviewers it draws 40-45 watts when booting up then settles down to 20-22 watts when the link is established. Does anyone have experience starting and stopping your STARLINK subscription? Definitely a benefit. Do you just login into your account and select stop/pause? The MINI would be great for emergency communications after storm damage.

Why did you go with Mini? Not Standard cheaper hardware, better signal, and allows you put the router in your house. You can take and connect a WiFi router to your Mini and then have better signal in house as well.
It should definitely keep a normal size fridge running. The bigger the power station capacity - the longer it will keep it running. The power stations are really great to have around for power outages.
If you want internet it has to be outside with a clear-ish view of the sky to connect. If there are any obstructions it won't work or it will cut out at times. It also has to have a power source of some kind to work, it doesn't work on its own.

Video on demand watching is not a valid test, as UA-cam, Netflix, Amazon Prime and all the other services buffer and can compensate short cuts. Streaming live tv such as a sports event or a video conference is a much more difficult task.
Good point! So far it's worked great for those options (we watched the olympic games and have done several video conferences with no issues/interruptions).
Even starlink is too expensive. It’s supposed to be for those who can’t afford regular internet or live in a rural area where there is no internet. But its monthly fee is way more than I can afford. Not sure wheee all you get your money.
I've connected several devices at the same time (computer, TV, cameras, etc) and they all seem to work really well. The service really depends on the obstructions though. No obstructions= better service. :)
@PacificPinesRanch do you know the distance of wireless connection? I have motion cameras, so they are not running constantly. My Tvs are 30 feet apart. Then just an occasional PC use. I would rather go smaller if it will still give me better than 5 g maxed out on century link.
starlink isn't gonna do very well in developed countries because conventional internet is so cheap and descent quality that people can't be bothered to get starlink. But guys in 3rd world country the internet is basically a luxury service. In Zimbabwe they charge for data by the megabyte imagine. Starlink mini unlimited costs 30 bucks and standard 50 in Zim. 50 bucks will buy you only 60GB of shit ass wifi. Elon musk has brought unlimited internet to the masses in my country.
I think the first thing it should transmit is your location on Earth, latitude and longitude, just in case it drops off and you find yourself in an emergency situation.

if you only use internet to surf the internet(webpages) the 50gig is viable, but if you stream tv movies youtube the $150 unlimited is the plan, the 120 residential is yes 120$ onmoth residential plan with standard dish is best and works IN MOTION(strapped to top of car) but id say the range of the residential in motion is about 50 miles or so then your gonna want portabilty add on($30 aminth) bringing you to about $150 amonth great for rv travelers(or me, those that do uber delivery in many citys)

I have way more open sky than you and my starlink sucked (I have the original, self powered/heated model) - I live in far NE WA state! Streaming was a PITA since every time a satellite went out of view and another came into view, any program I was streaming (particularly live shows) would cut out until the next satellite came into full view. I cancelled starlink and went back to Dish and use T-Mo and AT&T for internet now. Best of all I save a TON of money since I no longer pay $120/month for internet and $70-$80/month for "TV".
@@PacificPinesRanch Actually Starlink has gotten way worse over time. (I just canceled 2 - 1/2 months ago). Download speeds initially were over 200 MB/s and most recently were @ 75 MB/S - my 5G here in the boonies is 79 MB/s.
Funny, I have never been able to tell any difference AT ALL over 20Mbs down & 5Mbs up. I currently have Spectrum with about 500Mbs down & 10Mbs up The only way to tell any difference is by looking at a Speedtest needle.
I guess i can see it's use for hiking and camping. From what i understand, the standard Starlink auto aligns which seems more useful. I wonder if they are going to offer a mount that will auto align the mini at some point.

The monthly prices aren't too bad considering you can get internet almost anywhere. The equipment costs range depending on which unit you purchase but they have all that info on the Starlink website.
Yes we have Starlink internet on the ranch. This product is more designed for mobile use so we can use it on the ranch, and also take it with us when we leave and have access to internet wherever we go. 😊
If the speed was at least 500Mbps both down and up then it would be worth the price. Without it current starlink is just a rip off just a trial test with absurd pricing where people have no any option for internet access.

Video on demand watching is not a valid test, as UA-cam, Netflix, Amazon Prime and all the other services buffer and can compensate short cuts. Streaming live tv such as a sports event or a video conference is a much more difficult task.
Good point! So far it's worked great for those options (we watched the olympic games and have done several video conferences with no issues/interruptions).

Even starlink is too expensive. It’s supposed to be for those who can’t afford regular internet or live in a rural area where there is no internet. But its monthly fee is way more than I can afford. Not sure wheee all you get your money.
well all thats matter is upload sped i only use swedish mobile internet 4g i get between 15 and 30 mbit upload with home made antennas

Yes, all kinds of mounts available.
If you just place it on the ground like we did in the video, I would be worried, but it can be mounted for a more secure attachment.

I've connected several devices at the same time (computer, TV, cameras, etc) and they all seem to work really well. The service really depends on the obstructions though. No obstructions= better service. :)
@PacificPinesRanch do you know the distance of wireless connection? I have motion cameras, so they are not running constantly. My Tvs are 30 feet apart. Then just an occasional PC use. I would rather go smaller if it will still give me better than 5 g maxed out on century link.

The mini antenna is waterproof as are the connections.
So far it's worked great but we haven't had any BIG rains yet. Winter will come soon and we can get a good test of that! Lol :)

starlink isn't gonna do very well in developed countries because conventional internet is so cheap and descent quality that people can't be bothered to get starlink. But guys in 3rd world country the internet is basically a luxury service. In Zimbabwe they charge for data by the megabyte imagine. Starlink mini unlimited costs 30 bucks and standard 50 in Zim. 50 bucks will buy you only 60GB of shit ass wifi. Elon musk has brought unlimited internet to the masses in my country.

I do not think you even realized it. The power rating for the Vtoman Flash Speed 1000 is 828 watt hours, not amp hours. There is a big difference. 828 watt hours is equal to 68.9 amp hours. Sorry, I don't mean to sound like a perfectionist, but the power is the power.
if you only use internet to surf the internet(webpages) the 50gig is viable, but if you stream tv movies youtube the $150 unlimited is the plan, the 120 residential is yes 120$ onmoth residential plan with standard dish is best and works IN MOTION(strapped to top of car) but id say the range of the residential in motion is about 50 miles or so then your gonna want portabilty add on($30 aminth) bringing you to about $150 amonth great for rv travelers(or me, those that do uber delivery in many citys)

@@Somebodysomewheresometime it depends on where you live, right now upload speeds avh 12 to 20 mbps across usa and alasaka, goto starlinks web page, look on availabilty map switch to uploads speeds, and see your location for upload speeds

I have way more open sky than you and my starlink sucked (I have the original, self powered/heated model) - I live in far NE WA state! Streaming was a PITA since every time a satellite went out of view and another came into view, any program I was streaming (particularly live shows) would cut out until the next satellite came into full view. I cancelled starlink and went back to Dish and use T-Mo and AT&T for internet now. Best of all I save a TON of money since I no longer pay $120/month for internet and $70-$80/month for "TV".

@@PacificPinesRanch Actually Starlink has gotten way worse over time. (I just canceled 2 - 1/2 months ago). Download speeds initially were over 200 MB/s and most recently were @ 75 MB/S - my 5G here in the boonies is 79 MB/s.
Funny, I have never been able to tell any difference AT ALL over 20Mbs down & 5Mbs up. I currently have Spectrum with about 500Mbs down & 10Mbs up The only way to tell any difference is by looking at a Speedtest needle.
I guess i can see it's use for hiking and camping. From what i understand, the standard Starlink auto aligns which seems more useful. I wonder if they are going to offer a mount that will auto align the mini at some point.

The monthly prices aren't too bad considering you can get internet almost anywhere. The equipment costs range depending on which unit you purchase but they have all that info on the Starlink website.

Yes we have Starlink internet on the ranch. This product is more designed for mobile use so we can use it on the ranch, and also take it with us when we leave and have access to internet wherever we go. 😊
