I Love this! I've always loved the way knitting looks but I can't seem to get the hang of it to save my life. Now I can use my crochet skills to do "knitted" work! Thanks so much.
Thanks for your clear instructions. The single best tip was when you said that you never turn the work with this method. That helped me a lot as a novice crocheter.
You are a great teacher of Tunisian crochet. I always wanted to know how to do this, certainly you make it look like it can be very easily done. I had always thought it too complicated to do. Thank You very much for your awesome video tutorial! It is very appreciated!
This was very helpful. I was looking at trying to knook knit, but saw a comment about Tunisian crochet. I decided to go with this instead. Thank you. Your instructions were very clear.

What I enjoy about you is that you are very thorough and slow in doing these videos! Plus, you have the nicest, and cutest I'm accent ever! Thank you for your lovely videos,!
Thank you for that very simple and informative tutorial; a lot of the people doing crochet tutorials on UA-cam talk too much about themselves or their kids, grand kids and while that's nice if you want to hear about them, it bores me because I'm not there for that purpose. I also find they don't get to the point quick enough or make the tutorial straightforward and simple to follow. Thank you again!
This was so easy for me to follow especially since I'm left handed. I love the way you took your time to explain the steps and not go fast. It was the perfect pace for me to leave how to do it, thank you!
It was a no-brainer to subscribe to your channel. I have never seen such clear and concise instructions. I crochet, but have never liked the results, I am already picking up on a couple tips that will make my items turn out so much nicer.
For Tunisian crochet always use a hook 2 or 3 sizes larger than the yarn calls for, and work loosely on the pull up a loop. The reason Tunisian Crochet rolls is based upon the length of the loop which is pulled up and the position of the pulled through loops on the back of the work. To reduce the curling of the work with Tunisian crochet you must reduce your tension greatly when you are pulling up a loop through the vertical loop. As I work my row of pulled up loops, I leave some daylight under the hook, this gives the length of the loop the room it needs to lay flat. I also make sure to pull the new loop up somewhat sharply causing the row of pull through two loops in the back to move down into the correct position. To ensure your loops are loose enough your Tunisian hook should slide easily through the loops on your hook, if not your tension is too tight. Notice the pulled-up loops on your hook are a spiral. If your hook will not slide easily you can loosen your tension by manipulating the length of the loops by working the yarn through the spiral; which is very easy to do. You can look at the spiral of loops on your hook and quickly see which ones are too tight or too loose. The width of your work is controlled by the size of the top loop you pull through when you work your return pass. Keeping the size of the top loop you pull through consistent with the size of your hook shaft will allow you to maintain the same width throughout your project and cause the loops on the back of your work to have a consistent appearance.
Thank you so much for this! I wanted to be able to crochet a knit stitch so badly. I can't quite get it down with normal crocheting, but I picked this up so easily! Definitely have to get some Tunisian crochet hooks
omgosh this is the solution I was looking for! lol i got some traditional knitting needles about a moth ago and ended up pitching them in the bin. I just cant make 2 needles work at the same time for some reason lol. however I love crochet and this will mean I can "knit" but not have to bother with 2 needles! I didn't even know this existed but I already ordered my set of hooks :) Can't wait to have a go
Izzie Fawcett I am so happy you have discovered Tunisian crochet, it is such a beautiful way to 'knit' without knitting, myself too are not good with two needles so I too was delighted when I discovered Tunisian crochet (^-^)
Izzie Fawcett l just read your message & hope not to offend you. How much time have you given yourselft to learn anything is awkword at first. The reason l say this is l am left handed & l wanted to learn so l mastered right handed 40 years latter l taught myself left handed knitting is good to know for different patterns.
You are an excellent teacher, clear, patient and understanding how a beginner might need time to process what you are doing. Looking forward to some more tutorials from you, thank you very much
It was a bit slow for me but Geez are you graceful with your hands! And even how you handle the yarn. THAT in itself was something to watch and learn from. I am left with no questions at all! Awesome video. I will be trying this very soon.
This video was shot perfect, I could see everything while you were explaining it. Tysm for such a clear and informative tutorial. This is my first time doing Tunisian crochet.
Fantastic tutorial.. thank you... so easy to follow and understand you.. I really love your tutorials.. thanks for teaching me how to tunisian crochet.. and the knit stitch.. so very much appreciated...
No one is as slow as I am at knitting >.> It took my 18 years to finish a scarf and it's not even that long. I ran out of thread and unfortunately I can't find the same yarn I was using for the scarf since it's so unique .... so yeah I have a short scarf, but still wearable! I am just now learning to add fringes. I am new don't judge! ha! Thanks for this tutorial!
Debbie Villalba - it is quite alright seeing as how everyone learns at their own pace, but I'm glad you found more of the yarn you needed and was able to complete it. Very well done
@@MaynardsSpaceship I think it may be because of the poor video quality. I'm very interested in what she's saying, but it's quite frustrating, trying to see it clearly and it not being possible because either the camera isn't focusing or the lens is blurry. She's a very good teacher, and I go to her videos for quite a few tutorials, but I do wish this video was done a bit more carefully.
You are a great teacher and I love your voice. I also like how you say things about where you got your crochet hooks and for how much and showing them can really tell you love to crochet and it makes your videos fun and interesting! Thanks!
I thought about that too. But lately I have been observing some great knit designs and have been really appreciating just the simple knit and purl stitches. I am a crocheter and have been turned off by the complexity of knitting but I’m trying to re-learn it again, finding different styles that might work better for me. But I completely agree, crochet seems so much simpler :)
I've been trying to come up with a sweater pattern for my husband and now I feel it's gonna have to be Tunisian crochet. Looks like knitting without all the seriousness of worrying about messing up. Thank you thank you I've been a subscriber for a long time
6 quid works out at $10. I'm just waiting on my Tunisian hooks arriving, eager as hell to get started so much so, I'm actually doing the basic stitch with a normal crochet hook. It can handle 10 stitches easy enough...thanks for this sweetheart xx
Your tutorials are wonderful. They are easy to follow as you are very precise and clear in giving your instructions. How do we support you, what must we do?
Aww thank you so much Helen! You can support me in two ways, either by becoming a Patron of HappyBerry at www.patreon.com/happyberry or by donating via my website at www.happyberry.co.uk Any support is so much appreciated! Even just your words, thank you so much!
Thank you for the info! I can't be a patron right now, though I would love to in the future. I made the first small donation today and hopefully can do more in the future! Keep up the great work, I love it!
Great video! Thank you! I wish I could find a hook with a really loooong extension (I like to make pet blankets for animals in the shelter and they are usually 36 inches wide)
Crafty Math-Chick Have a search for the Tunisian hooks with adjoining plastic tubing/cable ends as they are much longer, you can usually find them on amazon :)
I have a question. When doing an afghan that measures 129x148 ,In video you are putting all on hook to the end but with a larger one how do you put all loops on hook for such a large afghan?
You use a cabled afghan hook. There is a bamboo set on amazon. The front is a regular crochet hook with a plastic cord attached that has a stopper on the end. (NOT a knook)
I have been able to knit and crochet for years, but consider myself an intermediate on both. I tried your Tunisian crochet from your tutorial and it was AMAZING! You take your time to actually show the stitches and it was so easy to follow and learn. I will definitely look forward to watching all your videos. Thank you!
I love Tunisian crochet, but am a beginner. How do you work larger pieces like a sweater? Would you work it in panels? Are socks a possibility? Can you use crochet or knit patterns as usual but substitute Tunisian Crochet/Knit-stitch?? Love your videos...thank you! :)
+Karen St. Clair Yes you'd have to work in panels really. Socks are possible and I have designed some ua-cam.com/video/s0avNRSDovs/v-deo.html I would imagine you could substitute knit pattern to this, you'd have to experiment! :)
+Karen St. Clair I am working a Tunisian Simple Stitch blanket that is 7.5 feet long. I work it on a special hook that has plastic tubing attached to the end. (I've also seen them available with wire at the end.) The work bunches up on the tubing when you are 'casting on'.
Diane Verdin I would like to start an afghan/ blanket. I will be getting the hook with a cable on it. how many do you chain to begin? I'm having a hard time finding a good tutorial for a tunisian blanket weigh the cabled needle
This was so helpful! I was trying to teach myself with a book, but I didn't realize I was supposed to put the hook underneath the bars when you work on the third row (right to left). I was going into the spaces, and when I did so I lost a stitch every time I worked from right to left 😅. Thank goodness for the Internet!
Another great video - I've learned so much of Tunisian all from your videos - and I ordered the same set of hooks off Amazon. I'm quite happy with them too, for the price (about $12.00 CDN). thanks again - I had surgery in December, and can't do much for 8 weeks - this is how I'm spending my recovery! Best Wishes
like many people have said before the way you teach makes it so easy for those who are learning to follow very easily thank you so much! sometimes other tutorials are too fast but this is easy to follow and easy to understand. i love it thank you again!
I am so happy I came across your tutorial!!! I have tried to learn to knit for several years and it just frustrates me and makes me fumble. But I am very good with crochet. I am excited to try this.
Hi I notice you're talking in an English accent but talk about single crochet. In the UK we call it double crochet. Please could you tell your UK viewers the difference. Thanks. x
+Raphael “Phell” Chia Your work will curl if you never purl, because of how the knit stitch pulls the fabric. It's a good idea to alternate rows of purl stitches with knit stitches so the fabric is pulled back and forth. It will come out straight.
The reason Tunisian Crochet rolls is based upon the length of the loop which is pulled up and the position of the pulled through loops on the back of the work. To reduce the curling of the work with Tunisian crochet you must reduce your tension greatly when you are pulling up a loop through the vertical loop.

I’ve been crocheting since 2012 but off and on and only know a few patterns not many, but I’ve never heard of this stitch and it looks so cool. Thank you for the easy how to and I hope to add this and new needles in the future 💗
I freakin LOVE this! I just taught myself to knit because I love Knit stitches more than the look of crochet stitches, but dread knitting for fear of dropping all my work! Who has time for that?! Not me! Love this technique
I purchased two sets of these crochet hooks two weeks ago and crochet everything with these. They are so comfortable and don't prick into the palm or tire the wrist as the usual crochet hooks do. These stitches remind me of Entrelac which I learnt a few days ago. I was so curious to learn Tunisian Crochet and now it makes crochet fun. Difference is that the stitches are added on the crochet hook. I am a newbie to crochet and am enjoying your great tutorials. You are an excellent Teacher. Thanks for sharing. Hugs xxx

FYI you're a very thorough teacher, and I love learning from you!!!!!!
That's really easy to follow :-)
This was so helpful! I was trying to teach myself with a book, but I didn't realize I was supposed to put the hook underneath the bars when you work on the third row (right to left). I was going into the spaces, and when I did so I lost a stitch every time I worked from right to left 😅. Thank goodness for the Internet!
wow this is really good
Another great video - I've learned so much of Tunisian all from your videos - and I ordered the same set of hooks off Amazon. I'm quite happy with them too, for the price (about $12.00 CDN). thanks again - I had surgery in December, and can't do much for 8 weeks - this is how I'm spending my recovery! Best Wishes
very useful and lucid vedio tutorial, thank you
Thank-you so much for the knit stitch! I have done simple Tunisian a while and love this new stitch to get the knitted look!
thankuuu your video is very clear to follow please share some babygirl cordigan tutorials in tunisian stitch

Is there a Tunisian purl stitch also, I wonder? As in "knit one, purl two?" If not there should be. :)
+Debbie Bunny Yes! there is a Tunisian purl stitch. I will do a video soon :)
Oh cool! Thanks! :D
I am so happy I came across your tutorial!!! I have tried to learn to knit for several years and it just frustrates me and makes me fumble. But I am very good with crochet. I am excited to try this.
mine is wrinkling up. why is that? it looks like an accordion
Marz Bar it will do that if your stitches are too tight :)

Marz Bar ,
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. I have watched others but was left very confused and you explained it beautifully.
Hi I notice you're talking in an English accent but talk about single crochet. In the UK we call it double crochet. Please could you tell your UK viewers the difference. Thanks. x
In my more recent tutorials I give conversions.
iwant2usemyownname You figured it out didn't you
I enjoyed watching this. It was nice to see something so clear and at a pace I can follow.
can anyone tell me why is the top and bottom curled, after the finish? at 19:51
that's avery important question I really want to know why it curl too
+Raphael “Phell” Chia Your work will curl if you never purl, because of how the knit stitch pulls the fabric. It's a good idea to alternate rows of purl stitches with knit stitches so the fabric is pulled back and forth. It will come out straight.
+emy emo that happened with me..but I found I'm not get out from single one firstly then get out fromm every two
Tunisian is naturally curly, it's less noticeable if you use a larger hook size than normal for the yarn weight
I knew a little about Tunisian crochet but this was a very clear and easy video to follow. Will definitely look out for more from HappyBerry Crochet.
Claire Rampton That is great! I hope you can enjoy more of my tutorials.

I was just gifted Nirvana by Karen Whooley and, never having done tunisian crochet, came to see your demonstration. Thanks for such a great tutorial. Wish me luck. : )

I’ve been crocheting since 2012 but off and on and only know a few patterns not many, but I’ve never heard of this stitch and it looks so cool. Thank you for the easy how to and I hope to add this and new needles in the future 💗
Thank you so much. I now have an Afghan started. It is my new go to stitch.
I freakin LOVE this! I just taught myself to knit because I love Knit stitches more than the look of crochet stitches, but dread knitting for fear of dropping all my work! Who has time for that?! Not me! Love this technique
I have a stroke this month, week ago. this great teach me how to crochet again. THANK YOU !!!!!!!
I tried the tutorial first with a regular crotchet hook and found it rather easy to follow; Thanks so much for your tutorial.
Finally I can understand the knit stitch Tunisian style , ty for going slow 😍🥰
I purchased two sets of these crochet hooks two weeks ago and crochet everything with these. They are so comfortable and don't prick into the palm or tire the wrist as the usual crochet hooks do. These stitches remind me of Entrelac which I learnt a few days ago. I was so curious to learn Tunisian Crochet and now it makes crochet fun. Difference is that the stitches are added on the crochet hook. I am a newbie to crochet and am enjoying your great tutorials. You are an excellent Teacher. Thanks for sharing. Hugs xxx
I am so happy you are enjoying my tutorials! Thank you so much for your kind feedback (^-^)
