How to measure for the Apple Watch Sport solo loop and braided bands series 6 and SE

I got the size 7 braided band, based on the cloth measuring tape for the 40" watch. I have Watch series 3 currently, which is not the right size (6 is arriving tomorrow), but it does attach and it feels big. I was surprised that I needed a 7, but I had measured correctly, so went with it. Sadly, it will be hard to exchange, because the Apple store is till closed in my city and they're out of most sizes until the middle of November when I checked yesterday....

Wtf? This is unaceptble!! I order 9 measure with a ruller, but with the print is a 6!!!
