Hi James, I am jealous, I contacted Colin at Union Mills a few months before he closed to see if he had one of these still available, unfortunately I missed out. I still have 4 other models including the City of Truro which has to be my favourite. Enjoy the model, great review as ever

Heh this one I did order some time ago, my last UM model was a LNER D16 which I was quite surprised that I managed to get not long before he closed down.
My favourite would still be my first one, the T9, though do need to touch up the livery a bit but all are still great runners!

Hi James. Nice review. Union Mills were always good, reliable models. The big snag was always that they are difficult, not impossible, to convert to DCC. Such a shame that they are no longer made. Pete

Cheers very much Pete, And they are indeed very good engines, and I have managed to DCC two of them before, it seemed to work well then, but my next two were bit more subborn to being chipped!
But either DC or DCC, they are wonderful models!

Union Mills runs really well. Simple design and workmanship, you got a good locomotive and fits in well to your layout.

They are a simple yet effective design, have been tempted in trying to replicate them myself one day!
But the Dukedog is quite a nice engine, though thinking it could do with some clerestory roof coaches which might look better with it!

    One on eBay now...

Some do pop up on eBay, but they normally end up going for at least twice the price they were sold for by Colin.

These were of white metal construction and very neatly done too, the tender drive looks of European origin, Roco or similar...pity the company went out of business..

If I recall right, Colin made and designed pretty much everything, think he did previously work for a model manufacturer so did already have some knowledge on things. But do know his tender drives are his own design, still got the odd few spare!
