It's true that Melodrama hits hard when you're getting over someone... It helps me to appreciate every moment of a relationship, from best to worst. I started not to underestimate pop artists after this...
@@ibbjamin I think of Pure Heroine and Melodrama as part of one continuous story, of finding young intense pure flawed love and then having it disintegrate when life happens before moving on through partying and dissociating and eventually through understanding. That being said i like the sound of Pure Heroine better and i probably like it more than Melodrama but I think that's more a function of my age and emotions when I found both albums than anything else. Or maybe I just like Joel Little better than Jack Antonoff
Honestly, why didn't he give any reason for not liking it. In his original review he praised the album in every aspect. His main critic was that he just didn't care about Kanye's life. It's like he is just trying to stick to his original opinion of the album.
Comments chosen by Anthony: good, detailed explanations that can spark conversations and make you want to go listen to the albums. Comments in the comment section: MelOn STop FUcKing My GrANdma, blah blah blah MBDTF got a 6
Do feel free to leave suggestions fo potential AOTD down there if yall are down! I left a comment about Black Messiah somewhere in the comments: funky, original and lush production that you disciver with every listen, poetical lyrics that don't beat you over the head with their themes. Deserves consideration for sure.
Let's Argue: Pink Season is one of the best albums of the decade both ironically and unironically. To see something so vile, uncouth, and down right disgusting but hilarious hit the top of the charts is honestly a bit inspiring.
The powers that B is my #1. Such a unique and varied sound from track to track. Extremely successful experimentation, and fantastic lyricism (in death grips' typical disconnected/incoherent style). Just a perfect album. One of my favorites of all time for sure
Anthony when I said you can do a couple of “fun activities” while you were babysitting my kids for the weekend I did not mean you could bring them to a strip club that was highly inappropriate!!
Rodeo is the album I have most consistently listened to and loved every time. I also think it influenced a lot of popular psychadelic-trap music today.
2016. I was 19 and my girlfriend had just cheated on me. I’ll never forget being super depressed for the first time in my life and resorting to weed just to help me think about anything else. I got super drunk with the boys, that same night my girlfriend left me, hit the cross fade, and listened to Atrocity Exhibition at midnight on release. I’ll never forget being absolutely gob smacked by that album. I was glued to my friends back seat of his Elantra for almost an hour, just listening to the album and getting chills down my spine. It came to an end and I opened the door to my friends car and threw up Doritos locos tacos all over my new sneakers. Atrocity Exhibition is a genre bending album, that pushed boundaries. I’ll never forget where I was, what I was wearing, and who I was with when I first heard that album. That’s how you know an album is timeless. Atrocity Exhibition is easily my album of the decade. Thank you Danny Brown. You owe me new Saucony sneakers.
LET'S NOT ARGUE: Because there's no argument. TPAB is the best album of this decade, but if we're being honest - it wouldn't have been written so well if Kendrick wasn't inspired by Playboy Carti. Die Lit is the best album of this decade.
its the best album of the decade if you are a hip hop fan, if you arent its clearly not. i personally i like Kids see ghots way better than tpab of course hip hop isnt my favorite music type. i dont think a hip hop album could ever be album of the decade tbh, that would be a terribly thing to happen to music.
I'd pick Fiona Apple's "The Idler Wheel.." I love the atmosphere of the album. It so vivid and alive with sound. Even after so many listens it's it still untangling itself for me.
*Lonerism - Tame Impala* Really popularized the Psychadelic scene and influenced a lot of young new artists. Definitely one of Parker's best works. Lonerism contains the revivalist spirit as well as a new touch to the Psychadelic sound. Parker made efficient use of the technology he had around him at the time. This album is so flavourful, so many layers, so many raw indescribable emotions. It contains the classic elements of a Psychadelic album. It's depth, tone, and experimentation with sound. Definitely one of the best albums of the 2010s. Even vice declared Kevin Parker as the artist of the decade. PS: I was also considering Currents, when it came in terms of sound. Definitely one of his most unique and ambitious projects. Currents also brought a whole new meaning to the term Psychadelia. It was Disco, Funk, and RnB infused Psychadelic music. Sonically it's truly a one of a kind sound. 70s, 80s, and 90s, used to shift the sound of 2015.
Ali Rafiei as much of an old school rock fan as I am, currents is definitely his best album. Just from the thematical execution. The soundscape stretches for miles babayyyyy
Tame Impala - Lonerism Frank Ocean - Channel Orange Frank Ocean - Blond Beach House - Teen Dream Kendrick - TPAB Kendrick - Maad City Fiona Apple - Idler Wheel Radiohead - Moon Shaped Pool Nick Cave - Skeleton Tree Father John Misty - I love you honeybear James Blake - James Blake Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues D’Angelo - Black Messiah St. Vincent - Strange Mercy David Bowie - BlackStar If I had to pick a #1, I’d say Lonerism. And ... sorry I didn’t include Beautiful dark twisted fantasy. It could very well be a masterpiece, but I just never got the hype. I wish I did. But I don’t.
@@CipherSerpico that's easily my favourite album of all time. I can't understand what's not good in that album according to Anthony, as I don't remember him saying anything bad about it
Alessandro Fusari I totally agree. It goes so far beyond being just a “great album”. The album is so emotional - “I need you” is one of the most devastating songs I’ve ever heard. The album breaks you down, and then builds you up higher than you were before. And I think that’s what art is supposed to do. Cave found a way to take something so horrible and make it beautiful. I just can’t say enough about that album. Every time I listen to it, I’m just astounded.
I just can't decide myself. So many amazing records. Some 10/10s that immediately come to mind though: The Idler Wheel..., You're Nothing, Wide Awake, Helplessness Blues, Brutalism, Splendor & Misery, Orc, Atrocity Exhibition, Loud City Song, We got it from here..., A Crow Looked At Me, Common As Light..., The Seer
Ify Igboaka To me, it sounds like they're all grown up now, and bundled up all their experience over the years in the album, it sounds majestic all the time, and the theme of the album is really appealing to me, as well as having probably one of the best album closers ever
Whenever someone says “influential,” you always limit it to music. As in, other ARTISTS, take ideas (unique aspects of music not a message) and sounds from someone or something and incorporate them in their own music. I think when the TPAB guy was calling it influential he was talking about how it influenced the listener with its ideas (message not unique aspects of music). when someone said “logic is more influential than Kendrick,” though i don’t agree with this, I think you completely disregarded the argument. Of course logic hasn’t influenced other artists, let alone influenced them like Kendrick. He’s definitely influenced an audience.
disagree with logic analogy but it's a very good point. plus the wave of jazz rap which kendrick influenced with tpab, from mainstream artists like cole and logic to underground rappers like mick jenkins and saba, the TPAB influence can be seen in a lot of rap
I can't remember which police brutality rally it was since there's been so many since '15, but the crowd was chanting the hook from Alright. People say the album was "ahead of its time" but I think it was right on time.
Tpab greatest rap album of all time imo. Themes are so grand and style is unique and Kendricks performances on all tracks both sonically and lyrically are incredible
@@jonasrattle9208 I'd actually say the opposite. In all my years of listening to Hip Hop I really haven't come across a rap album that, sonically speaking, incorporates so many elements of other genres and still manages to come across as one cohesive album other than TPAB. Lyrically and conceptually speaking I'd say Lupe Fiasco's Tetsuo & Youth and DROGAS Wave trumps TPAB. I'd throw Aesop Rock's The Impossible Kid in there as well as one of those albums. Not to belittle TPAB or anything but that's the way I feel. Conceptually and lyrically speaking TPAB is still a fantastic album.
Even though you didn't like Melodrama you can't deny how influencial it becomed , the number one song right now in the wolrd (driver's license) sounds like a song that didn't make a final cut on Lorde's Melodrama
@@damian-lk6dh agreed, Lorde is singlehandedly responsible for the success of half of all pop artists and songs out today, it’s absolutely insane looking back at how influential she has been on the industry.
MGMT's self-titled, and Little Dark Age. My god, I still find it hard to believe those albums were created by humans. Feels like 4D sound, similar to Shpongle.
Angelic 2 the Core and especially your review of it was easily one of the highlights not only of 2016 and this decade, but of my entire life. Thank you 🙏🏻

Anthony's Top 10 of the Decade based on his reviews and also guessing: 10. Benji 9. This Is Happening 8. good kid M.A.A.D. city 7. The Powers That B 6. Atrocity Exhibition 5. Kids See Ghosts 4. You Won't Get What You Want 3. The Money Store 2. To Pimp a Butterfly 1. To Be Kind
I’m surprised you put Atrocity Exhibition that high and that TBK was above TPAB. Also no Charli, grey area or Igor? Other than that you were pretty accurate
I believe Crack Up by Fleet Foxes is the best album as the decade. The album covers many topics of life through the use of beautiful allusions and imagery. While pushes the boundaries sonically and establishing a bright future for folk music and soundscapes
The Suburbs by Arcade Fire and Blonde by Frank Ocean are my two favorites of this decade. They captured the nostalgic cinematic style almost perfectly, something so many albums in this decade have tried to do but not as well as those two.
@@harisditta5695 Yup, love that album. I'd say trilogy by the weeknd as well, it's kind of similair to rodeo but has a little bit more lyrical content. But then again, rodeo is still a different experience from anything else so it's kind of hard to really compare it to any other album.
Although far from the best album of the decade, I think IGOR hit me the hardest. The way it perfectly captured every aspect of a relationship that’s failing made it relatable and felt like I was listening to a story as I was listening to the album.
edgy opinion: best album of the decade was Floral Shoppe by Macintosh Plus (2011) It inspired (or at least spearheaded) a weird internet genre of music with its own art and sound style. It may not be an album that I would listen to over and over, but it caught my attention on /mu/ and sent me down the rabbit hole of vaporwave on the net where a weird musical world unfolded.

It almost seems like Angelic 2 The Core got more praise than MBDTF. Let that settle in for a while
Honestly, why didn't he give any reason for not liking it. In his original review he praised the album in every aspect. His main critic was that he just didn't care about Kanye's life.
It's like he is just trying to stick to his original opinion of the album.

You owe me new Saucony sneakers.

i dont think a hip hop album could ever be album of the decade tbh, that would be a terribly thing to happen to music.
I'd pick Fiona Apple's "The Idler Wheel.."
I love the atmosphere of the album. It so vivid and alive with sound. Even after so many listens it's it still untangling itself for me.
*Lonerism - Tame Impala*
Really popularized the Psychadelic scene and influenced a lot of young new artists.

Finally some James Blake, it seems every list I read forgot about his entire existence.

Lonerism imo is the best album of the decade without a doubt. Such a fantastic, addicting project.

Finally someone said it!!!
'Lonerism' is definitely up there. The b-sides 'Beverly Laurel' and 'Led Zeppelin' make it even greater.
TemporaryFamineShip such sick tracks!!!!!
