I got my birth year Spaceview from 63. It's at the top of my favorites. Pick it up and listen to the electrical hummmm
Ah man I was bummed when I heard the size and price. Both too big 😢 if it was 40/20 and under 1500 I was thinking about getting one.
I may be justifying my purchase here, so take it with a grain of salt lol.... But all the owners agree that you have to see one in real life. The size is technically larger than I want too. But I am happy to report it wears smaller (trust me, I am picky, sold my 42mm Tissot 1973 because it was too big even though every single person said it was great) and after researching, I learned this is as small as they can get the movement so far.
this watch doesn’t have a mechanical tuning fork resonator, it used a quartz to regulate itself. also when runs out of electrostatic energy it relies on a battery to keep time when you arent moving. it is basically a quartz that has a fancy electrostatically driven seconds hand
It’s probably the most innovative watch mechanism of the decade. I guess electromechanics is not your forte
Great review-thanks Bruce! I really appreciate the “uniqueness” of the movement. I have a ‘64 Accutron Spaceview that hums along with great precision😀.
Really enjoyed your emails man
Hi, I have one of these, it's amazing. Congratulations on the video.
Bruce, thanks for this great review and the dive into the technical stuff, which was really interesting ! Keep up the good work 🙂
I've read and "watched" many reviews of this watch. I was puzzling over if the second hand re-synchronizes with the minute hand after coming out of power-save mode. Your review is the only one to explain this process. Which, makes this watch even cooler!
Having several Accutrons , i think this definitely has a place in the crazy watch market! The original was not a inexpensive watch by no means.. Great Presentation !! Thanks
Great point, I did fail to mention that aspect. Thanks David
The humming of an Accutron is hmmmmmm ;)
I loved this review like always ❤
Cool. I don't know if is $3450 cool.
I'm in for $1000 cool.
That’s awesome!!
That is a beautiful piece!!
Awesome review! Very interesting movement!
this is so cool.
Love seeing the movement! Brings my engineering and watch worlds together. Not sure if I like the Spaceview or the DNA best, though: tough call
This is cool, thanks Bruce!
Out of my price range and a bit too big for me , but I love it to look at! History of electric watches a really interesting thing to get into, and the accutron a massive part of that!
I completely get that
Thanks for taking a detailed look at this model. I have not really seen many reviews on it. The criticism were fair, and I would expect decent AR at that price. A bracelet model would also be nice, but maybe that gives them somewhere to go with updates down the road. I admit I was disappointed at the pricing, because I am a fan of the Accutron line. It may be worth it, but it's still a tough comparison against some other watches out there. I do love the conversation piece aspect of the watch though. I'm not small of wrist, but I'd love if it was closer to the 40-41mm size and a couple mm thinner. I need to see if I can find one locally to try on to see how it fits.
Cool . Fantastic piece . Thanks for the review Bruce .
Thank you!
Royal Jewelers in Amdover is awesome! Great store!!
A fascinating wearable. I really like the look of the face and the see-through design...
Yeah, I’m in love
dang man- that looks pretty awesome
This watch is really cool. I’d love to get one at some point!
Awesome. Thanks, bud.
Not my style but absolutely love this technology..Would definitely go for a non skeleton when they bring one out... There is the added bonus of a great heritage ..
It has to happen at some point. They invested quite a bit into this tech
Such a cool watch. Understand regular watch winder is not vigorous enough to keep it fully charged. Any ide if there's a compatible winder?
I had a chance to get the limited edition when these came out, but I got the one you reviewed instead. I know Im crazy for passing up the opportunity, but I really like the look of this one, a little more minimalist and the 60s look I like.
Very weird but very cool at the same time
Bravo bruce
I was looking at a couple of the Accutron DNA watches today and couldn't understand why they didn't have that "pop" when you look at them. Thank you for explaining why in your description of this timepiece. It is because it lacks an anti-reflective coating in the crystal. I will be taking a look at the Accutron Spaceview 2020 you reviewed here and I am hoping it has a bit more "pop" than the DNA's did, but it probably won't for the reason you give. With that in mind, I should probably wait on purchasing one until they do...Excellent Review!!!
very cool
wow love this accutron i own several accutron spaceview tuning fork watches but this electro static watch is mind-blowing is it a quiet running? or does it hum like the tuning fork watch??
I have an old Bulova Accutron from the early 70's . I actually bought it at a garage sale 20 yrs ago and it ran well when I first got it . I haven't put a new battery in it for years but know that's all it needs . Fascinating technology and innovation went into that peice . Really interesting video Bruce .
Love the look of this. Great design and innovation. A little big for my wrists but looks great on you.
Thank you
Sweet piece...I Dig it. The price is ridiculous tho.
Wow japan bringing in their a game with the spring drive this one and their quartz watches. 👏. Now i want this one.
Very interesting and of a similar kind of principle to a Seiko kinetic. Having owned a kinetic however I would swing to solar if the watch is not on wrist on a very regular basis. Love the concept and engineering though. A lot of physics going on right there. Cool.
I wanted one of the 1/300 Limiteds, the only ones (I feel) worth the commanding price they are asking. Outside of that, the regular ones are very expensive... and the now sold out limited ones are being resold (albeit few available) for a PHAT premium. No thank.
I bought the Accutron 2020 yesterday and it looks spectacular. However I have one issue with it. To get the sweep second hand to run I need to shake the watch vigorously. The second hand with then run but only for a few minutes. Then it stops and I need to start the process over again. Am I doing something wrong or is there an issue with the watch?
is there not a automatic rotor in that exploded diagram ? is that winding the a spring ? or turbines ? interesting watch .
This is a piece I would love to have in my collection.
Awesome screen name
@@BruceWilliams thanks man, I love your content.
These aren't currently making their way into the UK. Anyone got any info?
I love it ! ... Unfortunately, the Bulova line at the Entry level has suffered. The removal of the Precisionist II line was a mistake. (using the same 262Khz Quartz tech from their Lunar Watch) Making that a missed opportunity to garner, a lot of Sales that otherwise would go to Seiko. Especially, since Seiko price levels have been shifting. At the moment I'm wearing a Precisionist II - 96B230 - Their homage to the WW II "Field Watch". Being a 3 hander- the Second Sweep Hand is so smooth. To the "naked eye", It's every bit as smooth a the Accutron above ! btw - Since I do live in Massachusetts; I'm seriously considering a visit to Royal Jewelers, in Andover. (To "BILL" - As a retired Sales Trainer; I'm Not a Time Waster.)
I can see Accutron or maybe even Grand Seiko utilizing Carbon Nanotubes as a viable option for an energy source instead of quartz or to pair it with Quartz some how. This would bring Carbon Nanotubes to be more mainstream.
En cuanto esta ese accutron 💰💰💰
The Vintage Accutron looks better if you ask me , it's hard to find an original one and if you do, it's very tricky with the movement , not cheap either .
What are the servicing intervals?
The watch will need to be send back to Japan after 15 years. As the capasitor will need to be replaced. And you have to wear it on a regular basis. As letting the capasitor run empty complety will stop it from recharging again. But besides that, I have no idea.
Fun technology but in a huge package. Price wise, it's more than competitive with Spring Drive, even though esthetically different.
The manufacturer says that the Accutron Spaceview 2020 can't be wound in a watchwinder. So I'm surpprised to see it in a watchwinder anyway.
Strange, I was watching TGV videos via YT randomizer and it came to when he had the Bulova Accutron and the strap he decided to put on. I close out of it, and what appears on my feed? ^^^!
lol Google is onto you Keith
@@BruceWilliams lol.
That's seriously cool... I'd take it over a spring drive myself, it's unique, unusual and quirky whereas for me GS springdrives are too conventionally styled.
Good review, Cheers Bruce 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks as always mate!
You had me up till the dimensions. Make it 40mm & 10-12mm thick.
The Accutron is super cool buuuuuuut I wish it was 40mm. I can see other colors of that frame as well. Blue and rose gold would be cool.
They make it other colors. They call it the DNA.
I am not sure if you mentioned it or not in the video...but would you consider yourself a "watch enthusiast"?
I would
It's like new version of kinetic
I lwould love to see this technology in a better looking watch
I like the blue one but man is it expensive
If you buy a third party bracelet can you not put it on the accutron?
I would like it better if it were designed with a more modern aesthetic. The originals were beautiful ugly in a way that matched the time period, this is a good thing from a collecting stand point. This new Accutron line has neat technology that would look better with a different design.
The finish on the gears is not finished. For 3k watch it’s pretty cheesy, swatch sistem 51 fits the bill better.
I know nothing of watches beyond what I like and I wear a moderately priced Citizen my husband gifted me on my first birthday that we were together. As a woman and given the history and look of this watch, I wonder how it would look on a woman? Or is there a slightly sleeker version of this one? Stunning and again - I’m NOT a watch person.
5 sec/month? That’s about as accurate as it gets. My spring drive is +-15/Mo
maybe more legible if the hour markers
would be on the inside of the crystal.
As a watch-enthusiast....
I thought, Hey, that looks fun. $200-300 bucks... maybe I'll get one. $3,500 hahaha! No thanks, Not for a retro gimmick... but I hope buyers enjoy it
For that price (300ish) get the original spaceview 214cal from the 60s and 70s. The actual legend, reasonable dimensions, and just as visually different as the new 2020 version
Man, once they make this movement a little smaller and try some different styles... I'll be all over it.
More like an advanced Seiko Kinetic???
Cool but a little big for most great content 👌
I think this would be an inconvenient night time watch. You wake up in the middle of the night for a quick time check and you have to shake your arm and wait 5 seconds for your answer.
lol well to be fair its only the seconds hand that stops the hour and minute hand are continuously on time
@@BruceWilliams The watch has just become more desirable. Thanks.
this is a hybrid watch . and it looks expensive
0:22 it`s a great move only from the company perspective.
Remane aka steal the name of the model from 60`s and now sell it 10x more expensive.
But if it`s in 1 company which owns all of that is OK.
My collection is anti-Swiss. Also, nothing has cost more than 1600 yet.
But when it does…
It’ll be one of these, and a Grand Seiko.
(also, I’m a bracelet guy too mostly, but having seen the Spaceview on green croc/gator, I was instantly sold on it)
I don't think that I will be swaping my bb58 for one of these any time soon.
The Japanese watch industry is much more interesting than the Swiss, spring drive now this
that's pure sex
4th
Mentioning 3k I’m out
Accutron inspired quartz movement.
I don't want to use this term because it's blasphemic , but this is my "Holy Grail" if i should get one end this year , hard to find them and there is something called trust , for that money i will for sure not buy it online .
Nice but overpriced!
Cool tech, love bulova designs but this looks ugly
Dang it. I really didn’t want to learn anything new today. You ruined it for me. I had no idea Accutron has become its own brand. I did already know I liked them, though.
An absurd and ugly watch - technology? Accutron? A tunning fork? Nope, just a simple miyota quartz in a ugly and bulky case - not better than seiko kinetic and much worse than solar quartz
