Sir,if the pipe is in vertical position then head = total length of pipe,but what is the pipe head for horizontal laying pipe?
In the chilled Water Pipe system the system is a closed loop therefore there is no difference if the Pipe is vertical or Horizontal.

Sir, the longest length is considered for calculation of the pump head, but there will be head loss through AHU's coil which are connected before the last AHU. Why we aren't considering the head loss of AHUs?

Good brief description but 2 things need clarification
1. U didn't mentioned about how to take pressure loss of valves..it is not same like fittings, u have to know kv value of valves first
2. For F&R pipes did u taken the length of F&R both pipes

So the Primary pump should overcome pressure losses of the chiller loop only: from the suction point, through the chillers, to the suction point of the secondary pump. So it will have always less Head than the secondary pump that should handle the pressure losses throughout the supply and return of all the distribution loop ??
bhai, mere ek doubt hai HP jo nikal rehe hain wo ek pump hai , in case 3 pumps hai primary side mai tho apan jab calculate kar rahain hai wo ek pump hai na bhai , ab wo head loss jo aya hai usko apan HP ke formulea mai use karne baad jo HP arahai wo single pump hai na bhai.

dear sir i have a doubt that,at the condition when both primary and secondary pumps are involved, some of the other tutorials, for primary pumps people are taking whole pipes from the units to the chiller and for secondary pumps all the pipes from the chiller to units..is that method is feasible? and do we need to take the static height also?
The terminalogy Primary means the pipes related to Chiller's only.
Secondary can be in various type, such as from the chiller to the building or from the chiller to the building secondary and saperate for the building as tertiary

In a Closed System, I believe only Supply to the Last (Critical) Unit needs to be considered, not the Return Piping. Because If you can Supply to the Unit, the Return will automatically come to the Pump. IS it Correct? But I must say, your video quality is very good with good understanding of the subject.

I have watched this video a couple times to try understand it properly, i do have one question though, when selecting the Head Loss to dimension the pump, knowing how many l/s or GPM, you account for pressure loss in the piping and fittings to the furthest point of your piping, yes? and not all of them combined, imagine theres a valve in bedroom with FCU 4, and it has a drop pressure of 0.3 and the equipment drop pressure also 0.3, you add them in your equation to head calculation but only one of them, and not all FCU combined, right? Sorry if its a dumb question :p
Yes. When calculating the Pump Head the farthest length along with it fitting to be calculated one more thing the designer/Engineer need to see the critical path also.
Because sometime instead of the longest length there might be another route which might be shorter in length but have more fittings of pressure drop.
@@hvacsimplified Thanks a lot for your explanation and tip in such short notice, it does make sense, any chance your available to help me dimension a system? it is a circuit with primary and secondary pumps and inertia tank, the pumps with your video for pressure drops and head loss, also the pipe selection that is all ok, but for inertia tank & buffer, i have no idea what are the dimension criteria, if the tank is pressurized etc, i would be very gratefull, thanks

The head is to be considered till the last FCU or AHU. now you need to first understand the type of pumping such as Primary and Secondary Pumps.

If we are connecting secondary pump in parallel connection, then its pump head has to be same. You cant divide the total head with number of pumps.
