How indispensable is constitutional amendment for political stability? Is political stability only the continuation of empty governments or is it the continuation of policies? The government being formed in Nepal is not stable, how much are our policies affected by it? How serious are the political parties of Nepal about the stability of the constitution in the ongoing debate on the need to amend the constitution?
As the decade of implementation of federalism is approaching, questions have started to arise about the federal democratic system. Since the promulgation of the new constitution of Nepal, more than half a dozen governments that have been formed in this period of 9 years have all made prosperity their slogan. But prosperity has been preached on the basis of empty physical infrastructure.
Citizens are disappointed, the youth exodus is rapid in the name of foreign employment and foreign studies, the unemployment rate is just as bad. The degree of citizen dissatisfaction with the government on basic issues such as education-health-service delivery has increased rather than decreased.
Isn't the definition of prosperity sought by Nepal and Nepalis wrong? Here is a conversation with author and anthropologist Sanjeev Pokharel for Kantipur Television's 'Fireside' with Rupesh Shrestha.
