Loved watching and comparing to my behavior (we're about the same age)... I have a built in playmate though which is really pawsome. After the first dane, my parents learned they need to be in twos and got a second dane when their first was about Roxy's age. Its alot of work and double the drool but makes my daily life much more enjoyable to always have a playmate. 🐾🐾
I thank you for this video. As a long time dog owner, I currently own a Great Dane and 2 Dalmatians. All live in harmony. I do not use dog parks for the reason you stated with Roxy. Many dog owners are not watching what is going on around them.
Just love watching your video! My dream is to have a Great Dane in the future, so your videos really do help and I’ve learnt quite a bit through your journey with Roxy! 😁 God bless! ☺️ …all the way from South Africa by the way.🇿🇦😀
we have a 2yo male dane - similar scenario re: finding playmates for him. busy schedules all around and some people were nervous to have their dogs play with such a big boy. socialization is so important, as is keeping dogs engaged. we ended up getting a mutt pup from a local shelter and despite a fairly wide size difference (150+ vs 40lbs) they are best buds and play so well together. the little guy holds his own and the dane is incredibly good about pulling his punches, so to speak. love seeing them curled up together and keep each other entertained. very glad we got our dog a dog.
We got our puppy a puppy 🐶 ❤ So we had already adopted our female Dane and then a few months later, we were contacted by her breeder and asked if we would consider taking her brother who was returned to them. I couldn’t be happier to have both of these sweet Dane babies ❤
We have a 5 month old chocolate dane as well as 2 shih szu ,she beasties is the smaller 4 pound molly. So funny to watch them play, although has to be closely monitored so the little one doesn't get hurt. Definitely helps her at times, and hurts other times as she learns alot from her.
Danes are such beautiful dogs! I have two dane/masstif mixed boys, Zeus who is almost 2 years, and Hades who just turned 1. They are brothers (from seperate litters). We got Hades because Zeus had a similar experience at a dog park. It seems as danes get bigger, other dogs get more intimidated and don't want to play anymore. Having two is a handful, but the fact that they are a similar size allows them to play fully without me worrying about a smaller dog getting crushed. We got lucky that they really love each other, some people recommend to get different gender dogs for better compatability so that is something to consider. My boys also suck on blankets so it's interesting to know they are not the only ones! Also, the food pickiness is definitely a struggle. We've been through many different rounds of kibble, and even raw. They finally seem to be okay with their food now that we make cooked meals. Zeus in particular is very sensitive about food texture. There are definitely a lot of layers to these dogs but I wouldn't change a thing!
I thought my 4 year old Dane was missing out playing with a dog his size. He has 2 Yoekies, and a shizPoo, all mini dogs. Move ahead a year, we adopted Gannon, a Mastiff/Dane mix, 140 lbs, 20 mos. Bullet was happy at 1st but as Gannon outgrew him, I believe Hannon began missing the old days when he was big man on campus. So, Bullet turned the other cheek on Gannon. Either way. I have them both and they tolerate each other. I know this doesn't clarify much except humans will do anything for their fur buds. So, now I'm now the old lady with 5 dogs!😂😅
I have 2 Danes along with a Doberman. (used to have 3 Danes but lost JJ to cancer at age 6). They used to be best buddies, but now the 2 Danes hate each other and have to be separated 😞 For food, I just put a tablespoon of plain yogurt on top for the evening meal and that seems to be the 'topper' that they like. Yours is gorgeous too
@@NAIKOchan17 Long story - Everything was great, then Penelope (2 yrs) bloated and I took her to MSU for emergency surgery; she had to wear the cone of shame and we kept her separate from Duchess (5 yrs); I thought all was good, then Duchess was a tad 'grumpy with Pene - thought it was the cone. But when the cone came off, it was no better, in fact worse. Pene ended up with 3 puncture wounds from Duch, and ever since then they have been separated in their kennels. (2 54 inch kennels in my living room). I have muzzles but kind of hard to wrangle 160 pounds and 110 pounds by myself if it goes bad, so it is what it is.....
I have 2 Labradoodle sisters 16 months old they took a minute to play with my Dane puppy Skye and I have a small German Shepherd all females their good with and also let her know that her biting is not tolerated. I personally think another Dane would be best because as she gets bigger she's gonna want to wrestle around and I'm thinking my other girls aren't going to take that very well. But I could also be wrong Skye's only 10 weeks old. She looks like Roxie 🥰🐾
Hello,I have a Male Great Dane. He was brought into our house as a pup . We already had a two year old female Husky( 50 pounds), and ten years old female Shizhu mix . The husky and Dane play together continually, and the older dog just keeps to her self. This information is given for reference. Hope it is helpful. 😁
I have a 2 year old lab and then we got a Great Dane puppy. The Great Dane and lab play good together but then the Great Dane just likes to bother our lab lol
I have just ran into the same problem with my dog. I was jazzing a bowl of food up here n there and now she's super picky...she wont eat her dry food plain now!
man seeing u and roxy chilling out like that makes me miss my great dane and most awesome friend in my life more and more 🥰
I got my first Great Dane in 1969 and I STILL miss her! What a fabulous friend she was!
My first was in 1968. I learned right away the meaning of sweetness.

Thank you for sharing, I hope they grow close again
That's really unfortunate ☹️. Do you mind sharing what happened that caused them to Hate each other?
