    I like this change they made to Fenton. He's got an energy and charm about him that is just so cute to watch. The original Fenton was a good guy but he always felt like he was pretending when he was in costume. There's no doubt he was a hero but there was a slight lack of passion for his actions. I buy the new Fentons transition from civilian to hero.

    Another thing I liked about this episode is that it hinted at the possibility that Mark Beaks is actually going to become a serious threat. I'm hoping that he'll some kind of development similar to Ludo & Meteora from Star VS (or Quackerjack from the Darkwing Duck sequel comics) where they take a joke villain and make him a powerful opponent not to be messed with.

    I found this episode interesting for the dynamics between three similar on the surface characters; Gyro Gearloose, Fenton Crackshell(-Cabrerra) and Mark Beaks. They're all highly intelligent nerds with questionable social skills, sure, but we see different takes on it; Fenton is quite possibly more intelligent than Gyro, but his efforts are bumbling and clumsy because he's overenthusiastic and doesn't think things through, while the Gyro we see introduced clearly has had time to learn from his failures and is currently putting effort into testing his inventions to make sure they work. Kind of a recurring dynamic in this show; the naive, enthusiastic newcomer paired with the cynical, experienced veteran. (and it says something that Fenton makes Gyro look wise)
    And on the other hand, Mark Beaks shares many qualities with both of them; he's not as technically apt, but still adept with technology and enthusiastic for it as an opportunity for profit, and more social, his entire persona revolving around being seen as a quirky genius and innovator- but of course, all his actual creations are fabricated or stolen, because the end result doesn't matter as long as he makes money and grows his reputation. But like Fenton, this leads him to not think things through; he copies an invention that is known to have catastrophic issues, thinking more about impressing people than the consequences. But like Gyro, he has a more practical side; dangerously so, given how he clearly plans to obtain the Gizmoduck suit. (which seems like a hint that he's preparing to descend into full villain status rather than mere annoyance)

    • @Kelaiah01
      @Kelaiah01 6 років тому +10

      I'm really curious to see exactly how far Mark Beaks will go in obtaining the GizmoDuck suit, especially since so far he hasn't done anything all that villainous... although in his introductory ep, there was that one moment where Beaks had an almost breakdown about being served his 2:15 coffee at 2:14, suggesting that there really is something dark beneath his cheery surface.

    Given the structure of the episode, there's a case to be made that Fenton becoming Gizmoduck was the direct result of seeing the kind of hero Launchpad had the courage to be. By emulating a hero, Launchpad created a hero.

      We see a few hints that the in-universe Drake Mallard clearly has the personality, especially the willingness to pick up and keep rolling no matter how badly he embarrasses (and injures) himself, not to mention the original show has him an already experienced but still goofy crimefighter before he adopts Gosalyn. He seems set up for a later appearance, likely with his biggest fan Launchpad involved, and possibly becoming the hero he used to play.

    • @DaDunge
      @DaDunge 6 років тому +2

      Well then he wouldn't be Drake Mallard, and also it would be a total rippoff of the Batman the animated series episode "Beware the Grey ghost". In fact what they have said about the show thus far already sounds a lot like Beware the Grey Ghost.

    I think everybody missed the fact that this episode is also a Talespin tribute. This is pretty much the same plot as From Here To Machinery from Talesspin. It's an episode about a robot pilot taking over real pilots, and Baloo racing it to prove he's better. Baloo loses the race, and gets replaced. Sound familiar? Hell, Scrooge is this episode's Shere Khan, if less sinister.

    I'm a little bummed out that Darkwing seems to be just a creation of fiction in the show as opposed to an actual hero in St. Canard. But hey, maybe it's a 'based on a real story' thing, but probably not. All I know is bringing back the original voice actors, not replacing them. And the fact that Darkwing didn't go all edgelord Batman clone, you don't know HOW many points that earned from me (Seriously, he's not based on Batman, he's based on the older pulp comic heroes. Why do people forget they exist?).
    But the BEST part of this episode, even greater than Gizmoduck, is that we once again see the inner Mark Beaks, peeling away this numbskull who is all about online presence. Which he is, but there is someone much darker at his core. We saw it before with his breakdown over the coffee, and now we've seen it again.

    This felt the most like a old Ducktales episode. Normaly the paching is pretty quick and the episode is over in what feels like a short amount of time but this one felt longer and I am happy about it. Now Fenton was my Peter Parker/Spider-Man before I ever laid eyes on Spider-man and I can relate to Fenton a lot. Being clumsy, getting ahead of myself even thought I am cunning in some aspects I usually don´t get to use my strong points. So seeing Fenton a underdog becoming a hero was really important to me when I was a kid. And I think his and Lauchpads realtionship works really well here and yes I do love how he saves Gizmoduck too. Becuse look at Gizmoducks very first episode. He is not succesful, he is really bad and makes a lot of misstakes but makes small victories. Now I am not sure about the AI suit but I let them decide what they will do with it. On the note of Darkwing Duck I have been waiting to see this episode in my language Swedish and I hoped they whould get the old voice back and we did. He was back but this time he made his voice more similar to Jim Cummings rather uniqe way of speaking. In the Darkwing Duck show the Swedish voiced sounded more normal and young.

    After watching this episode, it reminds me of an episode from the original Ducktales series Season 1:9 entitled "Armstrong".. In the beginning of the episode, Scrooge and the boys are on a train that gets stopped by rocks falling onto the pathway of the tracks. Launch Pad comes to help out by moving the rocks. Unfortunately, he wasn't strong enough. Gyro shows up and initially introduces Armstrong, Gyro's newest addition robot to assist. He moves the rocks quickly and over time, the family takes a strong liking to Armstrong. A sequence after that Launch Pad races against Armstrong in a plane race only to be defeated by a crash. (Might I add, Launch Pad was flying pretty good. I believe that he was blinded by a smoke screen). During the middle of the episode, Scrooge gives his entire staff the day off and has Armstrong helping around this office to improve efficiency. It's during this moment, Armstrong figures out the combination to Scrooge's safe where he starts counting Scrooge's money. Armstong turns bad. Scrooge and eventually Gyro are captured and the two are prisoners in Gyro's place. Eventually, Launch Pad and the boys stop Armstrong.
    There are so many reference from "Beware of the B.U.D.D.Y. System" to " Armstrong. The robot turning evil. Man against Machine.Scrooge wanting to invest into this new technology. Launch Pad not taking a liking to the robot and feeling the sense of being replaced.
    Both are pretty good episodes. I prefer "Armstong" better. I've always enjoyed Launch Pad centric episodes. Launch Pad was one of my favorite characters from the original series. In here, not so much.

Also I like that this episode helps establish a bond and kinship with Launchpad and Fenton, something that was emphasized when Gizmoduck cameoed on Darkwing Duck. And now the new villain(?) Mark Beaks might actually have a new MO in trying to acquire Gizmoduck or replicate him and his abilities to some capacity...
    I'm looking forward to both Fenton Crackshell and Gizmoduck in future episodes. :D

    Also, I do love Dewey's reaction to the Darkwing Duck show. Just another idiot who fails to respect the greatness and groundwork of practical effects over digital. Especially when digital effects either weren't good or didn't exist yet!
    And it just occured to me, this is a lot like an episode of TaleSpin. At least at first.

    So I have a theory on how Darkwing will get introduced and how it will lead to a spinoff with Launchpad leaving Ducktales for that show.
    In season 2 we will get an episode where Magica De Spell discovers a spell or some mystical item that allows her to bring characters from paintings or other media to the real world. And she will bring to life... all of Darkwing's villians. Over the course of the episode the McDuck/Duck family will battle these villains until Launchpad inspires them, after repeatedly telling them how DW would defeat them, to use the magical item to bring Darkwing, Gosalyn, and all DW's heroic supporting characters to the real world. Darkwing will defeat Magica but his villains will escape. This will lead S.H.U.S.H. to decide to hire Darkwing to protect St. Canard (because of course the villains will gravitate to their old stomping ground from the show) and Launchpad will be assigned to help DW and Gosalyn get used to being in this new world.
    THus the rebooted Darkwing Duck will see Launchpad in a new role, as the guide for Darkwing and his daughter in the new world they find themselves in, teaching them about technology and such. As for Ducktales... well... they will be in need of a pilot and maybe a certain pilot who is on the moon might become available...

    3:16 Man vs Machine. This reminds me of Armstrong from the Original DuckTales, who Launchpad competed against as well in a Flying Contest. Atleast David Tennant unlike Alan Young is aware that he’s not voicing a human, and that Duckburg is without human residents. I say that based on a line Scrooge said in the Original DuckTales episode I’m referring to: ua-cam.com/video/sgxJfovpOss/v-deo.html

    Ok. No one is seeming to talk about this. So I will. This episode *also* had a nod to a season 1 TaleSpin adventure. In it, Baloo challenges these new line of robotic pilots against the “real deal.” Just like in this episode, *SPOILER ALERT* Baloo loses. But ends up saving the day from the robot. The episode is called “From Here to Machinery”. I didn’t get to see the original Ducktales or Darkwing Duck growing up. But I know TaleSpin

    This is kinda like the comic crash course we’re Scrooge and rockerduck are competing on who can make the safest car. So gyro makes a car with so many buttons he has to call in with a radio later on in the race. Soon launch pad, Scrooge, rocker duck, and rocker ducks driver are in the race and they have to make it through the most dangerous road in town. Once launch pad and Scrooge finish they find out even in mass production each car would cost1/4 of his money bin. So it’s not exactly like the episode but they both share a lot of similarities.

    Again it's funny because Darkwing and Gizmo are hated where I live in Denmark which is known for being one of the countries with the biggest duck fan bases in the world. But I have already talked all about that in another one of your comment sections. Also people really hated how Gyro Gearloose was handled in this episode but I think that's enough for one comment.

    Hey Seaniccus great review,I also really like this episode. Another thing I believe that made it really great was thar not only did he give launchpad is own episode and brought in the origin story to gizmo duck but it also gives a little more attention to Gyro as a character. I thought he was funny and it quirky and I really hope to see more episodes and I can also see him being another rival for Mark Beaks. Since Mark is not only a billionaire but a “inventor” I can see him going against Gyro, also I saw this episode is kind of a starting point for Mark Beaks to become a little bit more of a villain. Because in his first episode The infernal internship of Mark peaks he doesn't come off too much as a traditional villain per say he’s just a jerk and to be specific; he is a manipulative poser who wants to be in the spotlight which of makes him kind of a jackass but at the same time he’s not Intimidating. Yet with that last scene with him in this episode kind of makes me think that, this guys going to get an upgrade LOL which makes me pretty excited to what’s going to come next with Mark Beaks and his arc to get Gizmoduck. I think with that kind a story line Gyro and Fenton are gonna be used a bit more which I’m excited to see because they’ve become very interesting to me. 😃

    Kind of late, but I really enjoyed how Launchpad going up against the B. U. D. D. Y. system very much mirror's how he goes up against Armstrong in the original DuckTales, including the fact that he did it because of his own insecurities and fear of losing his job.

    I remember how many people were legit angry to see that Darkwing Duck was "just a TV show" in the new DuckTales, and how Frank Angones was all coy about it, teasing the angry fans for assuming that's all Darkwing Duck will be in this reboot.
    Also, Gyro REALLY is an asshole in this reboot, even if he was justified in firing Fenton for posting his secret information online. And how many of us legit thought we'd see the return of the Headless Man-Horse? The fact that he's Gyro's intern means he's a semi-recurring character now, too. :P

    This was a good episode... for once... Some episodes are pretty good but the show has been kind of hit and miss so far. Launchpad is always a highlight though so I really liked this one and Mark Beaks is one of the better addition to the lore too. I'm just glad this episode had a real sense of danger something that The spear of Selene and Mystery of Mcduck Manor really lacked. I mean come on Scrooge seems to be always in control of every situation in this show and his flaws are played for laughs but never put him in real danger like they did in the classic Duck comics half of the show seems to be about how amazing he and Donald are, they never seem to really struggle. I would have a lot to say about "The Spear of Selene" which made me question watching the show further. I also have a hard time with Dewey (or the blue one not sure about his name) who seem to switch personnality when the plot needs it he just do not feel like a well defined character.
    Anyway thanks for the video it made me watch this episode and I'm glad I did it was a good one! Stay fresh.
