Yakima 8007416 Hood Anchor Straps provide bow and stern tie down attachment points for kayaks and canoes on vehicles without tow hooks or other undercarriage attachment points. Should I also tie down the kayak on top of the rack? Not just to the hood and trunk tie points?

Hi Olivia, you would most definitely want to tie the kayak down up top as well. The bow and stern tiedowns are an extra tiedown measure in the event those straps up top fail that way the kaya doesn't fly off your roof. Thanks for watching!

@@rackwarehouse Agree, but more likely to happen is, rather than the straps that tie the kayak to the rack failing, the roof rack to the car fails. I have seen poorly attached roof rack fail 4 times. One with the kayaks bouncing down the highway along with the roof racks securely tied to the kayaks.
The hood strap for the kayak bow, great idea, should be mandatory in case of roof rack failiar.

Yes, when placed in the proper location these can be used on pretty much all models.
