    Someone recommending I watch another UA-camr who did a thing where he narrated as another instance of himself worked. I thought it was fun, so I gave it a try. Now I can't find who made the recommendation, or who the other UA-camr was. Feel free to take credit or remind me who they were.

      Love it!

      This was really neat. Now, if you could teach me how to create a clone to sit at my desk during the day, I could get back to boat building :D

    • @NickSchade
      @NickSchade  6 років тому +6

      You may find if you make a clone that he just likes to stand around and talk while other people do the work.

      Jay Bates does that. He has a really good woodworking channel. Although his other instance often eats a sandwich while he watches himself work. Great Job, Nick

      Yeah, Jay Bates: ua-cam.com/users/Jayscustomcreations. Thats the guy. Now, who recommended I check him out?
      I'm not sure I'll do more of these. It worked pretty well in this situation, but it gets tricky if I'm moving all around the boat.

    Funny how one end of the boat stopped moving during sanding while the other end kept moving when Left Nick was talking. Magic!

  • @Rickmakes

    Nick on the right is doing all of the work while Nick on the left is just standing around talking. I've seen that behavior at places I've worked. ;) Great video work!

      Left Nick is like that. All he does is talk.

    I never knew you were a Jedi. Your videos have really come along, and are a great supplement to your book. Now if spring ever comes along in Minnesota I can't wait to build my first kayak. Keep up the great work!!

    Another fun video. Pretty clever letting your double sand the hull while you narrate. The super slo-mo to ultra high speed effect definitely helps to see the whole process in a nice consolidated manner. It looks amazing so far and every day it shines a bit brighter as more is revealed.

    You went from scraping in The Matrix to cloning yourself ala Multiplicity! That was very well done.

    You are a true master. Sharing your knowledge, that's a gift. Thanks for yet another great video. Let's pick up some tools, go build stuff and have a great time!

    I like the narration while Nick #2 is working. I've done a fair amount of longboarding on sailboat Hulls. One trick I used to use was to chalk an area where I suspected there might be a low spot. I'd run the long board over that area. If the chalk still showed that area was filled with fairing compound and the process repeated. These were fiberglass Hulls.

      Thanks for sharing. I have done something similar by scribbling on the surface with a pencil.

    Great work on the editing and kayak Nick! Also have to say I've appreciated the content on sanding and the long board. Cheers!

    Excellent as always!!! I see the denatured alcohol trick as a way to get out of trouble with stuck forms and problems like that rather than as a general assistant to removing the hot glue spots on the surface. I also use hot glue to attach temporary blocking for clamping etc. I love how the hull is looking.

    Great effects. Even the slow mo scrapping. Frank Howarth did the same cloning. Check out Frank. Great wood worker. Great projects. Great attitude. Great job Nick.

    I know you're critical of your video making skills, but you're making better boat building films than anyone out there. The split screen drew my attention to your wobbly sawhorses though-they only wobble on one side!

    • @Incurable1776
      @Incurable1776 6 років тому +2

      True!!! Nick does have the best boat building videos out there, the explanation and tool decision beats all.

    • @NickSchade
      @NickSchade  6 років тому +2

      The wobbly sawhorses did complicate the editing. Basically I had to use still end for the front half.
      The sawhorses are 30 years old. Clearly I am due to make some new ones. We'll see when that happens.

    Dust collection on your manual longboard is great...who is the manufacturer?
    Love the result of your book matching efforts!

    Have you tried card scrapers at all?

    • @NickSchade
      @NickSchade  6 років тому +2

      I do you card scrapers some times, but not at this stage of the process. Card scrapers are great on hard wood with squirrelly grain, but not as good on softwoods like cedar. They could be used, but I don't think they would have much advantage.
      What they are good for is shaving down drips and sags in the epoxy.

    Hi Nick, great series. I have a canoe with a sharp trumblehome and having difficulty knocking down some uneven ridges on the inner curve. Any ideas for doing this? Thanks

    • @NickSchade
      @NickSchade  6 років тому

      Scrapers are great for concave curves. They can make quick work of uneven strips. I will then wrap sandpaper around shaped pieces of foam for fairing. Starting with really coarse sandpaper to take care of the shaping before moving on to finer grits.

    • @kinniguy
      @kinniguy 6 років тому

      Thanks nick, is there a particular scraper you might recommend that fits a curved area?

    Curious if the Alcohol drove the hot melt glue into the wood, by dissolving it ? Boy do I need a Double !! Only with a better attitude! Excellent information, and well executed !

    • @NickSchade
      @NickSchade  6 років тому

      I don't think the alcohol did much of anything. Maybe soften it a little.

    • @OldWhitebelly
      @OldWhitebelly 6 років тому +2

      That was my concern. I'd be afraid of something in the wood that could affect or react with the stain or epoxy. But a lot of wood will be removed by then anyway.

    Is Left Nick any better a chef than Right Nick? Maybe he could do the cooking segment for you...

    • @NickSchade
      @NickSchade  6 років тому +1

      I think that all Left Nick can do is talk. And honestly, he isn't even very good at that.
