To think that Pia outsmarted Stella Araneta to wear that Andrada gown to win the first crown in 42 yrs. That was a slap to Araneta who had no respect for the Fil designers being insistent of compatriot designer Barazzo who even sabotaged Maryjane in favor of Paulina.
Fun FACT: Catriona made sure every piece she wore tells about Philippines. So the one she used in the national pageant is called SINAG (rays of the sun). The prelim gown is IBONG ADARNA ( a mythical bird in the Philippine Literature) And the ofcourse the ICONIC lava gown, representing the perfect cone Mount Mayon in her hometown albay.
My personal favorites are Catriona's national gown (as side from the famous lava gown) and Bea's national blue gown. For Catriona's, I love how they styled her. The shape of the gown looks really good. As for Bea, I thought that her red gown during the MUPH preliminary would be my favorite. But after going back and forth on the finals look, I love the shape and the vabirant color on Bea. Plus, the simplicity of she was styled was just perfect. Honorable mention: Rabiya's bright orange gown and Bea's MUPH red gown.
Rachel’s evening gown performance during Binibini was more energetic and “better” if you could say, though her finals performance was more polished, but again lacked the energy. That I think was the only thing that kept Rachel from being in the Top 5. Because let’s be honest, with Rachel’s amazing Q&A skills, if she was included in that final 5 she would’ve snatched the crown from Demi. I’ve always said this and i’ll always continue to say it. Rachel and Catriona were the B2B of the Philippines never had!! ❤️❤️❤️
Fun fact : Cary Santiago is super accomplished in that he also designed Gazini's National Costume for MU 20119 . And she won Best in Nat Cos that year .
Gazzini's yellow phoenix gown and Catriona's red lava gown, for me, are the best. For Beatrice, the gold gown transformed her into an ancient Filipino royalty. In the 1500s, the first Spaniards who stepped on our soils, described the native Filipino royalty as tattooed and literally dressed in gold ornaments.
2017, Loved Rachel's National gown, 2018, Loved Cat's Miss Universe final gown, 2019, Loved Gazini's National gown, 2020, Loved Rabiya's final Miss Universe gown, 2021, Loved Bea's Final Miss Universe gown.
I really think that had Rabiya used the MUPH finals night as her MUbPrelims look, she would've been a bit stronger. Rabiya had a fabric heavy Prelims gown which although It's looking great, it looked like it's consuming her. She's at best when she's using light, mesh, see through and pick-a-boo
Hey Dani, thanks a lot for featuring various Philippine gowns worn in Miss Universe courtesy of world class Pinoy designers. The 110M Filipinos will definitely support both Celeste, Miss Universe Philippines, and Rbonney, Miss Universe USA! 👍😄❤️
Gazini Ganados is the prettiest Bb Pilipinas in my eyes. That beautiful golden gown she wore in the prelims I think was really meant for the finals but she just knew that with those judges, she will not make it to the finals. It was a no-brainer.
Catriona and Bea have the best gowns hands down!!! Both really represent where they come from! 💙❤️💛 Edit: Just wanted to add that Bea’s final gown for MUPH was my favourite gown of hers ever!! It was perfect.
Dani, whether you post pageant content or your vlogs (!!!) you rock! Some ideas for gown analysis: South Africa, Thailand, Indonesia, Venezuela, or Colombia😊
Amazing gowns! Catriona's and Rachel's were my favorites, but I also loved Gazini's pink ensemble from nationals (it was bold and different; the gold was great too, but it seemed too stiff for my liking). My least favorite gowns in general were Rabiya's.
Color choice is very crucial, especially considering the stage lighting. What looks amazing on the fitting room may look dull on stage. Stage lighting also differs every year, so you can only prepare so much for the gown choice, but it's all up to the staging gods to decide if it is a success or not. But what really works most of the time is if the candidate chooses a gown she can truly feel confident wearing. ❤
Hey Dani,im a filipino observing the videos from our national stage to miss u. Our stage lighting is gloomy, dark and kinda boring.video quality is not as sharp as to that at the miss universe. But our misses performances simply jaw dropping. Usa,Philippines and Brazil have best placements in the last decade. I suggest for Brazil.
10:57 - Yellow, the last of the four colors of the Philippine flag. The country was indeed batting for a fourth crown to complete the four colors. I just hope that Queen Beatrice Gomez would be the last to wear the yellow gown for at least five years or so.
Good morning /afternoon /good evening. For me a very stunning and beautiful gown that wore of our Miss Universe Philippines Beatrice Gomez 2021. The blue one and the red.
Rabiya’sc subtle hairstyle change was because there were no stylists or their entourage during the competition. They had to do it themselves due to covid
Hey Dani! Thank you so much for reacting to our Miss Universe Philippines representatives. Can you make a video about Q and A part of Miss Universe for every Top 5 finalist? Maybe ranging from 2015- 2021. Thank you! ❤✨
Happy New Year Dani! Allow me to say that you really doing a great job. Giving us laudable content everytime. I watched your most recent vlog about Miss USA post updates about the "rigging issue" yesterday and here I am wanting to see more.
The problem with Rachel's EG (although gorgeous ngl) on MU Finals is that some of her competitors wore before and after her have the same shade of silver, that part killed her chances of going to the Top 5. This is my personal observation btw.
I personally prefer a swarovski-crystal-ish gown for Gazini because it will make her stand out more. The magenta gown of her was iconic and beautiful. I love the flow of it. The gold gown, however, was very STIFF and difficult to walk on. You can see she was trying. I think that gown was just a pictorial gown and not for runway modelling but I love the details of it. Just that it's very stiff and hard. The red gown of Gazini was also too plain, I feel like if she wore that on the finals night she wouldn't stand out or captivate the judges' eyes. I do love the details of it but it's just we're very modern now and plain gowns wouldn't push you through. I wish Cary Santiago put more effort and creativity in Gazini's gowns because she was MUP 2019.
Let's complement the Beautiful (MAGANDA) Ms. Dani Walker . You're content is Direct to the point, not for pleasing purposes but constructive criticism with class😘😘😘. PEACE AND LOVE ❤️ love from the Philippines 🌞
No questions, That Lava gown was just amazing. Followed by Bea's gold gown equalled by Rachel's silver finals gown. Gazini's gold gown was just too stiff that it felt like it hampered her sultry walk. That yellow dress of Rabiya just looks so constricting. She looked smaller. Must be the proportion. I do agree with the necklime of the orange dress. Had it been deeper, it easily would transform to a more sophisticated and confident gown. It's just nice that finally, we are championing our local/Filipino designers after decades of just having them exhibited during the nationals.
Re: Rachel Peters' "sexy" silver finals gown: YES I agree!! So far, among all the previous BB. Pilipinas- Universe reps, Peters was the only one who had such a flamboyant/sexy way of slaying those gowns.
Rabiya and Beatrice had preliminary gowns at Miss Universe Philippines while others didn’t is mainly because of the change in pageant ownership between 2019 and 2020. In 2019 and before, Miss Universe Philippines was crowned at the Binibining Pilipinas, a pageant that crowned multiple queens for multiple pageants and didn’t really have a preliminary competition, or at least a televised/recorded one. In 2020, the Miss Universe Philippines franchise was given to a different owner to become its own sole pageant. And underneath this new ownership they pretty much televise or post nearly every portion of the pageant, prelims and finals. Which is probably why we seen queens (like Rabiya and Beatrice) now having gown changes between prelims and finals because prelims is televised and they want to keep their secrets under wraps.
Dani, Can you do an episode of amazing gowns worn at Miss USA pageants over the years? Ladies that come to mind---Olivia Jordan, Morgan Willard, Miss Florida USA 2018, etc!
Catriona gown Red gown(volcano gown) - represents volcano with flowing lava. Inspired by one of the famous volcano in the philippines which is called Mt. Mayon. Orange gown(adarna gown) - represents "Ibong adarna" or "adarna bird" in english. This is a famous mythical bird in philippines. This mythical bird means "resilience, rising and rebirth." The detail of this gown is the feather of the bird.
For Bea, she had at least 4 reserved gowns, the prelim red one, the finals nightgold, the silver with the same style of the gold and a goldish brown turtle neck one
Rabiya was amazing on MUP. I honestly prefer her packaging on MUP compared to MU. It’s just she’s fresher and even though she was a newbie, there is this quiet confidence in her and you just can’t not root for her. That confidence disappeared when she was on MU stage (thanks to pro government fools who attacked her online because of the stance she made) though which is kinda sad because we knew how much she tried. The spark just disappeared and that translated to her evening gown performances I think. I love the yellow gown but somehow, the performance aren’t up to par to what she showed in MUP. On Bea’s gown, my favorite, both the performance and gown, is during the MUP finals. The way she commanded the stage, the stare, the end pose and the way her hands were positioned in every part of the performance is amazing. On MU, she mentioned that she chose the gold gown because it was her dream to compete in MU in a gold gown so that was a huge factor why they chose that gown. What I love about that gown is the cultural patterns in it that you normally see in the indigenous group in the Philippines. It is tribal couture. Haha. My favorite gown for the nationals probably is what Gazini wore. The pink one is just so unique and fresh and the matching earrings completed the look really well. For her MU gowns, I prefer the red one. I think the gold one is really stiff and floppy at the same time. The fabric is amazing but the way it is constructed (maybe because of the fabric as well) is not at par with the pink one. Not really sure but I hear somewhere that they initially planned to wear the red one for prelims but decided on the gold one last minute because they need to make a more impacting performance for the prelims. But if I am being honest, her national costume just trumps everything in terms of creativity and Construction. On the lava gown, I am not a huge fan of the slit tbh. It is too high. But everything else is perfect. It’s just so unique and iconic and I doubt that we will ever see a similar gown on MU stage. 3 gowns immediately comes to mind with that level of uniqueness (Zozi’s, Cat’s and Zuleyka’s).
The Philippines is such a great power house. Not just beautiful smart women but so well dressed. Great video as always. 2017 & 2018 were my favorites from Phi. I can’t wait to see your video on Colombia. Please make one 👏🏼
