And even tho cat and rachel were raised overseas, both had spent a lot of their adult life working in the PH before joining pageants.

But on the finals, she just surprised everyone.. all pageant vloggers failed to predict her being on the Top5 2016 (Maxine) and 2017 (Rachel) these 2 are forgettable queens..
well Rachel and Maxine for me are just like one of the unplaced Filipina queens during 2000-2009.. all of them are just there and forgettable... although maxine and rachel were placed, but undeniably, they have no staying impact.. i dont know but that's what i feel for these 2 queens... no charisma probably.. esp rachel peters...
Maxine was the most bashed Philippine candidate. She is the only one that had an interpreter and did not use it and yet still failed to answer her question. I remember she even quit the limelight to stay away from the media and Filipino bashers. It was so bad it was even on the news.

In the mean time, the judges found her answer selfish. -Mary Jean is a crowning material, but unfortunately, she became a sacrificial lamb. -If Maxine used her interpreter, maybe she could make it to the top 3. -Venus was the one who stopped the 10-year-drought curse of the Philippines. -Beatrice answered the question right but not clearly, the judges picked those who sounded right other than those who were right.

I'm not a big fan of pageants, but when I saw Gaz, my jaw dropped, just WOW!!! She was all about Pinoy Pride and the other nations found it absurd that a white girl from a foreign land is suppose to be a Flag Waving Filipino. Yes, Gazini is argueably the most beautiful. But Pia Wutzbach has a very solid portfolio. Gazini became so insecure of her comm skills. She obviously had way too much training from people who can’t speak English fluently. Whenever I hear someone speak Tagalog or even English with a strong Filipino accent, it is soo soothing to the ear, it's really quite nice. There should be no shame among Filipinos in using Tagalog, in fact i find it weird that Filo's tend to be ashamed of their own language, I don;t see that anywhere in the world. It cannot be denied that speaking English is still & always be a plus+ & an advantage in international pageantry & definitely this gives the candidates from the Philippines the edge & a plus+ because it's basically their 2nd language. Perhaps it is also among the reasons Why for the last 4years Thailand had been choosing & sending candidates that can speak fluent English🤭🤔
Agree on the language part but not taking anything away from the Thai girls, it seems like Thai officials seem to look for a copycat of the previous winners and mimic their "game" from the Philippines. I know they can do better than that.
Yes, I agree that English fluency is a bonus, but the walk and confidence are also as important because how can you proceed to the QNA portion if you don't have them? Look at the Latinas; most of them don't know how to speak English fluently but they have a lot of winners. And look at what happened to Thailand 2021. They chose to send the candidate who could speak English fluently, but their candidate wasn't even able to enter the semi-finals. So, what's the conclusion of all this? You need to have it all. If it's about speaking English, then western countries should get the crown all of the time.
Iris Mittenaere from France wasn't also an English speaking expert when she won in 2016. She boosted her English speaking skills during her reign. Basically, anyone regardless of knowing English or not can still win if she has it all. True.

While it's not good, I myself as a Filipino, we deserved this. I think Cortesi wasn't good when I watched her prelims, and no bias, I didn't even select her as one of my picks. Why Philippines has become such a powerhouse in beauty pageants? I think it's because of three things: Beauty Pageant Culture, Program or Training, and Fan Base.

This is what I've noticed about Philippines placement during IMG era. Whenever the host country is in Asia, there will be at least 2 Asian delegates that would be part of Top 5/6 and Philippines never miss to be part of it. 2016 Host Country : Philippines Placement : Top 6 The other Asian delegate part of Top 6 was Thailand. 2018 Host Country : Thailand Placement : Winner The other Asian delegate part of Top 5 was Vietnam. 2021 Host Country : Israel Placement : Top 5 The other Asian delegate part of Top 5 which was also the winner, was India.
It was all coincidence because every year they have different judges. Every judges has their own candidate that they've supported. Every judges has their own taste to who should they select to be on the top placements.
I'm not being biased, but as I observed in a lot of pageants, there's a big difference among Asian, African, European, Latin American, "other" American(US and Canada) women on how they present themselves. Because Philippines got so much influence from different cultures, add the highly competitive environment, we've created a hybrid type candidates that makes the country such a powerhouse specially Post Trump Era.
So why so many unemployed girls from the other countries come to Philippines to compete in local pageants. Girls who are ugly in their own country go to Philippines to win.

My opinion * GET READY Shamcey SHOULD HAVE PLACED HIGHER THAT YEAR. He answer was 🔥‼️ my country In 2012 🇺🇸 should not have won that year . Philippines 🇵🇭 should have won . Pia is A QUEEN . And she is one ☝🏾 of my FAVORITE 😍 miss universes recently. Rabiya Should’ve placed higher . Maxine in 2016 Was highly over rated, she blew her question away and it wasn’t even that hard . I hated both of her evening gowns , prelim and final , I feel like her place was GIVEN in the top 6 because it was in her country, Catriona is over rated . I'm not good with make-up but Pia and Catriona had the best makeup during their Q&As. This may be overrated statement though. Pia and Catriona did an excellent makeup with themselves. They know the right gradation and shades to highlight their inner glows matching their personalities. Others are really pretty and sexy too but their makeup are either too strong or not matching their personal concept.
Sa susunod, wag I overhype sa social media ang candidate ha. Just let them train privately. Hindi mayat maya may update kau up to a point n nkikipag away pa kau sa ibang lahi when they say Ms Philippines is ugly, not in the top picks etc. Don't come as arrogant. Let them be. My thoughts on the girls: 2010 - Venus Raj - The woman who started it all. She had hardships through her time as Miss Universe Philippines because she was dethroned at that time, and she fought to get her title back and compete in the pageant. Through her determination, she started the well known placements and many Filipinos were proud, even if we even reached Top 15 at that time. Nailing both the swimsuit and evening gown competition, she had greater chance to win. Nevertheless of her answer and finishing 4th Runner Up, her successors continued having placements. 2011 - Shamcey Supsup - One of the best delegates ever sent. Her iconic tsunami walk was talk to the Filipino fans. I remember watching her and she was my childhood crush back then lmao. Even though finishing 3rd Runner Up, I believe she deserved that placement, but up to another great start. 2012 - Janine Tugonon - All the way from the start, you know that she is amazing. Her answer was so well-built and can even inspire other delegates who wish to answer the Q and A portion with their interpreters. Didn't understand why she finished 1st Runner Up, like India back in 1995. 2013 - Ariella Arida - Has one of the sexiest body ever when I watch her compete in Russia. I liked her final performance in the evening gown competition more than her preliminaries and some fans taught that she really was in the Top 16 but she won in the fan votes. Finishing 3rd Runner Up, this makes her the 5th 3rd Runner Up finalist from the Philippines after the year of 1963, 1980, 1984, and 2011. A Latina slayer she was called by some, since she was the only Asian to reach the Top 5, the rest were the Latinas. 2014 - Mary Jean Lastimosa - I really love her swimsuit performance, even though I felt bad for her because some fans criticize the creator of the gown since it wasn't go really well with her. Even her national costume was criticized too, due to being made by a Colombian. Top 10 can be the rightful placement for her, since this wasn't the time yet. 2015 - Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach - A true gem. I really love her enthusiasm that someday, she will represent the Philippines in one of the major pageants all over the world. Finally got her Miss Universe Philippines title after three attempts, even some threw backlash over her that even some assumed that she will not make it to the semifinals. But she proved them all wrong. With her killing performance and exceptional and stunning blue gown, she is one of the best picks to take the crown. With a truly exceptional answer, everyone expected her to win this time for so long. After 42 years of title drought of the Pilippines to claim their title, she ended it all with a winning moment. I also felt bad for her to not celebrate her victory walk, since it happened the mix-up, which is the most talked event in all of pageant history, making her the most popular Miss Universe. 2016 - Maxine Medina - She was facing backlash through her time because many think she doesn't deserve about her representing the Philippines in Miss Universe. But she proved them all wrong, with her excellent performance. Although she was one of the forgettable candidates ever sent, the Top 6 placement reminded me of Charlene Gonzalez's Top 6 placement in the 1994 Miss Universe pageant, both of which took place in Manila. 2017 - Rachel Peters - When she won as Miss Universe Philippines, I was getting doubts about her. I believe she can do better, since I find her swimsuit performance good, but the evening gown performance was truly a lackluster. That stopped her in the Top 10. Even Pia Wurtzbach was bashed in here due to her not making in the Top 5 which I believe all of the judges did the right thing. I didn't find her attractive at all. 2018 - Catriona Gray - A burning lava that made my 2018 the best year ever in my entire life. Her swimsuit and evening gown performances were so amazing like a real fire burning. Her lava gown and lava walk was so perfect that some said thay she performed better than the Victoria's secret models. Those were inspired to the Mayon Volcano, in which she came from in the province of Albay, which where I also lived. I saw her performance in Miss World at that time and even though she didn't get the crown, Pia's final answer was fitting perfectly from her journey. "I want to show the world, the universe rather...," that described her whole journey. With her gracious answer, she really is one of the most deserving wins in the history. Actually, many candidates from 2018 were deserving for the crown, like South Africa, Venezuela, Canada, and Vietnam, due to their stunning gowns. 2019 - Gazini Ganados - Her winning the National Costume competition is yet another achievement that we had after in the year 1994. Even though her opening speech didn't go well, Top 20 is yet another deserving placement for me. I'm not actually expecting back-to-back wins from that time, because I think it adds more pressure from the successor if their previous winner has recently got the title. 2020 - Rabiya Mateo - I actually felt bad during her time, because many fans keep pressuring her to the point that she was lacking confidence. Top 21 is not a bad placement, after all. Some Filipinos are acting like hypocrites and I didn't like their attitude at that time. Especially to TikTokers. 2021 - Beatrice Luigi Gomez - With the longest current streak ongoing, her bringing back our spot in the Top 5 was another blessing for us. The Top 5 finalists were very strong and answered the questions very briefly. Her swimsuit and evening gown performance was so satisfying. Many candidates are now looking forward to their placements, some are new, while some broke their streaks, like Thailand and Brazil. I felt bad for those ladies who didn't got placements, especially to those who has what they call the "sash factor," either strong or weak.

Celeste cortesi - italian girl inside and out but uses philipines to join pageants for sash factor. She's wild because of western upbringing as evident by pictures and videos surfaced by thais and Indonesians. Has no genuine social work prior because she's busy gold hunting in the name of famous and wealthy men in entertainment and sports industry. Vloggers are afraid to philipino fans so they always put her on their hot picks also to garner clout to lure philipinos to patronized them. So glad the judges of 71st edition made a right decisions to not classify her. The sweetest moment of miss universe history is top 16 announcement 🤣💓
2010 For me venus could have won if she nailed the Q&A portion. For overall, 4th placer is a big impact for PH to be in the spotlight again in pageantry. 2011 Shamcey was sweet in her overall perf and im good with her placement - 3rd Runner up 👌 2012 Janine could have won the title. She should have really won during that year. 2013 Ariella nailed her answer, she could place higher than 3rd placer. 2014 Mj deserves a spot in the final 5. But overall her placement was 👌 2021 Bea should have been in the top 3 because her answer was right. Her delivery fails her to make it to the cut. It could have been INDIA, PARAGUAY & PHILIPPINES. Maxine was the most bashed Philippine candidate. She is the only one that had an interpreter and did not use it and yet still failed to answer her question. I remember she even quit the limelight to stay away from the media and Filipino bashers. It was so bad it was even on the news.

My god, Gazini is the most stunning of them all!!! She is a goddess! All of them are gorgeous but Gazini is just next level.
Gazini is super gorgeous. But that year, the show was as pre cooked as the year Catriona was crowned. South Africa with NO HAIR and walks like a construction worker or oil rig is so unworthy, given that her runner ups were 20 times more eloquent.

I'm not a big fan of pageants, but when I saw Gaz, my jaw dropped, just WOW!!! She's absolutely gorgeous with or without make-up and even when just wearing plain clothes, can't say that for the other girls.

She was all about Pinoy Pride and the other nations found it absurd that a white girl from a foreign land is suppose to be a Flag Waving Filipino. Yes, Gazini is argueably the most beautiful. But Pia Wutzbach has a very solid portfolio. Gazini became so insecure of her comm skills. She obviously had way too much training from people who can’t speak English fluently. Gazini had great comm skills! But the Filipino fans made her very insecure and nervous.

Whenever I hear someone speak Tagalog or even English with a strong Filipino accent, it is soo soothing to the ear, it's really quite nice. There should be no shame among Filipinos in using Tagalog, in fact i find it weird that Filo's tend to be ashamed of their own language, I don;t see that anywhere in the world. Yes, I agree that English fluency is a bonus, but the walk and confidence are also as important because how can you proceed to the QNA portion if you don't have them? Look at the Latinas; most of them don't know how to speak English fluently but they have a lot of winners. And look at what happened to Thailand 2021. They chose to send the candidate who could speak English fluently, but their candidate wasn't even able to enter the semi-finals. So, what's the conclusion of all this? You need to have it all. If it's about speaking English, then western countries should get the crown all of the time.
Iris Mittenaere from France wasn't also an English speaking expert when she won in 2016. She boosted her English speaking skills during her reign. Basically, anyone regardless of knowing English or not can still win if she has it all. True.

My thoughts on the girls:
2010 - Venus Raj - The woman who started it all. She had hardships through her time as Miss Universe Philippines because she was dethroned at that time, and she fought to get her title back and compete in the pageant. Through her determination, she started the well known placements and many Filipinos were proud, even if we even reached Top 15 at that time. Nailing both the swimsuit and evening gown competition, she had greater chance to win. Nevertheless of her answer and finishing 4th Runner Up, her successors continued having placements.
2011 - Shamcey Supsup - One of the best delegates ever sent. Her iconic tsunami walk was talk to the Filipino fans. I remember watching her and she was my childhood crush back then lmao. Even though finishing 3rd Runner Up, I believe she deserved that placement, but up to another great start.
2012 - Janine Tugonon - All the way from the start, you know that she is amazing. Her answer was so well-built and can even inspire other delegates who wish to answer the Q and A portion with their interpreters. Didn't understand why she finished 1st Runner Up, like India back in 1995.
2013 - Ariella Arida - Has one of the sexiest body ever when I watch her compete in Russia. I liked her final performance in the evening gown competition more than her preliminaries and some fans taught that she really was in the Top 16 but she won in the fan votes. Finishing 3rd Runner Up, this makes her the 5th 3rd Runner Up finalist from the Philippines after the year of 1963, 1980, 1984, and 2011. A Latina slayer she was called by some, since she was the only Asian to reach the Top 5, the rest were the Latinas.
2014 - Mary Jean Lastimosa - I really love her swimsuit performance, even though I felt bad for her because some fans criticize the creator of the gown since it wasn't go really well with her. Even her national costume was criticized too, due to being made by a Colombian. Top 10 can be the rightful placement for her, since this wasn't the time yet.
2015 - Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach - A true gem. I really love her enthusiasm that someday, she will represent the Philippines in one of the major pageants all over the world. Finally got her Miss Universe Philippines title after three attempts, even some threw backlash over her that even some assumed that she will not make it to the semifinals. But she proved them all wrong. With her killing performance and exceptional and stunning blue gown, she is one of the best picks to take the crown. With a truly exceptional answer, everyone expected her to win this time for so long. After 42 years of title drought of the Pilippines to claim their title, she ended it all with a winning moment. I also felt bad for her to not celebrate her victory walk, since it happened the mix-up, which is the most talked event in all of pageant history, making her the most popular Miss Universe.
2016 - Maxine Medina - She was facing backlash through her time because many think she doesn't deserve about her representing the Philippines in Miss Universe. But she proved them all wrong, with her excellent performance. Although she was one of the forgettable candidates ever sent, the Top 6 placement reminded me of Charlene Gonzalez's Top 6 placement in the 1994 Miss Universe pageant, both of which took place in Manila.
2017 - Rachel Peters - When she won as Miss Universe Philippines, I was getting doubts about her. I believe she can do better, since I find her swimsuit performance good, but the evening gown performance was truly a lackluster. That stopped her in the Top 10. Even Pia Wurtzbach was bashed in here due to her not making in the Top 5 which I believe all of the judges did the right thing. I didn't find her attractive at all.
2018 - Catriona Gray - A burning lava that made my 2018 the best year ever in my entire life. Her swimsuit and evening gown performances were so amazing like a real fire burning. Her lava gown and lava walk was so perfect that some said thay she performed better than the Victoria's secret models. Those were inspired to the Mayon Volcano, in which she came from in the province of Albay, which where I also lived. I saw her performance in Miss World at that time and even though she didn't get the crown, Pia's final answer was fitting perfectly from her journey. "I want to show the world, the universe rather...," that described her whole journey. With her gracious answer, she really is one of the most deserving wins in the history. Actually, many candidates from 2018 were deserving for the crown, like South Africa, Venezuela, Canada, and Vietnam, due to their stunning gowns.
2019 - Gazini Ganados - Her winning the National Costume competition is yet another achievement that we had after in the year 1994. Even though her opening speech didn't go well, Top 20 is yet another deserving placement for me. I'm not actually expecting back-to-back wins from that time, because I think it adds more pressure from the successor if their previous winner has recently got the title.
2020 - Rabiya Mateo - I actually felt bad during her time, because many fans keep pressuring her to the point that she was lacking confidence. Top 21 is not a bad placement, after all. Some Filipinos are acting like hypocrites and I didn't like their attitude at that time. Especially to TikTokers.
2021 - Beatrice Luigi Gomez - With the longest current streak ongoing, her bringing back our spot in the Top 5 was another blessing for us. The Top 5 finalists were very strong and answered the questions very briefly. Her swimsuit and evening gown performance was so satisfying. Many candidates are now looking forward to their placements, some are new, while some broke their streaks, like Thailand and Brazil. I felt bad for those ladies who didn't got placements, especially to those who has what they call the "sash factor," either strong or weak.

Yeah about Rachel Peters she's quite downgrade among all of them her swimsuit was Also lackluster if will compare Also to Other Unplaced candidates Rachel is NOT on the same caliber of Thailand, South Africa, Venezuela, USA, Colombia

Celeste cortesi - italian girl inside and out but uses philipines to join pageants for sash factor. She's wild because of western upbringing as evident by pictures and videos surfaced by thais and Indonesians. Has no genuine social work prior because she's busy gold hunting in the name of famous and wealthy men in entertainment and sports industry.
Vloggers are afraid to philipino fans so they always put her on their hot picks also to garner clout to lure philipinos to patronized them.
So glad the judges of 71st edition made a right decisions to not classify her. The sweetest moment of miss universe history is top 16 announcement 🤣💓
2010
For me venus could have won if she nailed the Q&A portion. For overall, 4th placer is a big impact for PH to be in the spotlight again in pageantry.
2011
Shamcey was sweet in her overall perf and im good with her placement - 3rd Runner up 👌
2012
Janine could have won the title. She should have really won during that year.
2013
Ariella nailed her answer, she could place higher than 3rd placer.
2014
Mj deserves a spot in the final 5. If she was able to speak she could have nailed that round as well.
2015
WINNNER and DESERVING she's UNPREDICTABLE!
2016
Maxine the bravest one to represent us during that year. Being in top 6 was a big slapped for her bashers. She could have placed higher if she nail the Q&As.
2017
Rachel deserves a spot in the final 5, She's a great speaker as well. She could have nail it if given the chance.
2018
Catriona is well prepared and clearly she deserves it.
2019
Gazini is beautiful but she lacks the impact and her wardrobes didnt amazed me that much esp her gown on prelims. She could have nail the Swimsuit round if given the chance.
2020
Rabiya is kinda small to me, she was better during national. Her transformation didnt amazed me that much. I prefer her body figure during her national competition. Her wardrobes didnt also amazed me that much. But overall her placement was 👌
2021
Bea should have been in the top 3 because her answer was right. Her delivery fails her to make it to the cut. It could have been INDIA, PARAGUAY & PHILIPPINES. But being in the top 5 again after 2 years of being in the 20 is still a great comeback for PH to place that high.

Whatever they say, Janine should have won and Gazini is a goddess, and should be at the top 3 at least.
