  • Paramotors are personal aviation devices consisting of a motorized paraglider wing and a backpack-style motor unit worn by the pilot. The paraglider wing provides lift and the motor provides thrust, allowing the pilot to take off and fly through the air. Paramotors are also sometimes called powered paragliders or PPGs.

Paramotors are relatively lightweight and portable, making them easy to transport and set up. They can be flown in a variety of conditions and terrain, including flat fields, mountains, and even over water. Because they can be flown at low altitudes and low speeds, paramotors offer a unique perspective on the world, allowing pilots to take in stunning views and experience a sense of freedom and exhilaration.
Paramotoring is a popular sport and hobby, with many enthusiasts around the world. While it can be a challenging and potentially dangerous activity, proper training and equipment can help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for pilots.
Paramotors are often used for recreational flying, but they can also serve practical purposes such as aerial surveying, wildlife monitoring, and search and rescue operations. They are powered by gasoline or electric engines, and the pilot controls the direction and speed of the motorized wing through a hand-held throttle.
The paraglider wing used in paramotors is typically made of lightweight materials such as nylon or polyester, and it features an inflatable leading edge that helps maintain its shape and stability. The wing is attached to the pilot through a harness system, which allows for a comfortable and secure fit while in flight.
Paramotors can reach speeds of up to 40-50 mph (64-80 km/h) and fly at altitudes up to 18,000 feet (5,486 meters), although most pilots typically fly at lower altitudes for safety and comfort. They can fly for several hours on a single tank of fuel, making them ideal for longer flights and cross-country trips.
Paramotoring is a regulated activity in many countries, and pilots are required to undergo training and certification before they can fly solo. In addition to learning the basic skills of piloting, training typically includes instruction on weather and wind patterns, emergency procedures, and equipment maintenance.
Overall, paramotoring is a thrilling and rewarding activity that offers a unique perspective on the world and a sense of freedom and adventure that is hard to match. With the right equipment, training, and safety precautions, it can be a safe and enjoyable activity for pilots of all levels.

I'm in Michigan and flew XC 1-3 times per week all last spring/summer and the majority of it was butter air, because the early birds get the butter ;)

Nice to see a mellow, adult PPG pilot.

  • @SkyBoundMan

This was one of the most well-done mini-documentaries I've ever seen on our sport. Thanks so much to the creators and to Nik for doing it justice!

haha.. "im on the wrong toy". FUnny you mention that. My supermoto sits behind my paramotor, with expired tags. My hobbies keep changing thru the decades. Once bicycles and skateboards. Then dirtbikes and snowboards. Then Street/sport bikes. Now....paramotoring. SOmething magical about running into the sky with a blanket and chainsaw motor. Stupid simplicity at its finest. Love it! Thanks for the vid, fairly accurate and informative. I think I heard your wing sob a little as you stepped on its tip....

I really wish I saw this before doing my training as I went in knowing very little about PPG (outside of knowing I wanted to do it). Very well described, I'll share this with friends who are considering PPG.

Very enjoyable to watch. Thanks so much for sharing. I share many of the feelings you have. When I fly PPG, it's one of the few times I think, "Life is so good; this is such a gift".
