- Surfer Girl /// Vulfmon and Drew Taubenfeld
brian wilson was just 19 in his car, when "surfer girl" came to him.
it's his first ever composition, inspired by “when you wish upon a star” by dion and the belmonts.
he turned that sweet tune into a beach vibe, creating a beach boys’ classic.
i heard drew taubenfeld cover it on pedal steel at a ‘jam’ hosted by ryan lerman. i thought ‘this is good content.’ -vulfmon
that's some clean playing. it makes up for jack wearing shoes on the couch
does it though?
@@aae42No.
Those look like indoors handball shoes tho

there´s no rules!
Lap and pedal steel are some of the most soothing tones in this world
The pedal steel player is grinning from ear-to-ear when that key change comes around! Love it!
Those harmony notes are sublime
No surprise here... This kind of melody will always shine on steel, with or without pedals.
🥰
That chord at the 0:24 mark hits the spot! And the resolution is just the cherry on top. Soooooooo good!
All those Beach Boys tunes are deeper than you realize until you take the time to learn them.
I hear "When You Wish..." now that you mention it.
That's an absolutely dreamy tone on that pedal steel.
Makes me wanna
This IS good content! So clean!
Those eyebrows have perfect pitch. I can't stop watching them climb with those beautiful high notes.
I need an Album of only this vibe
Makes me want to dive back into Bill Frisell's "Guitar in the Space Age."
Had the same thought
Ditto
lapsteels blow my mind on so many levels. First, they're so incredibly expressive. And second I don't understand how he's getting such a variety in quality of chords from one bar pressing down multiple strings. Like, how is he able to go from minor chords to major to diminished flat 5 chords where the "fretting" looks like it only happens on one fret at a time 🤯?
Combo of pedals and knee levers. You can play a whole major or minor scale without moving your bar. Depending on tuning. He might be in E9
Watch his left leg. Knee and foot. He's not just fidgeting.
Pedal steel players are f*cking musical monsters. Both hands, both feet, and a knee combine to make such beautiful sounds. It really is incredible magic.
This is such a good, relaxing vibe. Cheers from bikiny bottom
spelled bikini, like the atoll where they tested nukes.
swimsuit named así for the 'explosive' effect it had on the fashion world.
spongebob locale obv. named for bottom half of the swimsuit.
I'm now finished being That Guy

Great song, great cover, great story!
A new Vulf video. It's a good day.
Man, I love The Beach Boys so much... Y'all did this so well! It does sound really great on the pedal steel! ❤
could listen to this all day! feels so good.
Well done, gents! Your content always makes me smile.
This is superb! The world needs more Steel Pedal Guitar!! Thank you Jack!
Or rather TY Drew!
shoes on the couch 😭 But perfection per usual
The forgotten art of labeling videos accurately. Well done on all fronts
Beautiful
Oh Jack, you've given me so much... but I never expected you to be representing the same Squire Starcaster guitar as me quite so much: what an unexpected delight (both the quality of that instrument, and that we're both rocking it in that humble wood finish) ❤❤❤
yes
Smooth. Gonna be playing this one on my rough days
Let’s go!!! Sounds amazing!!!
Amazing!
Unreal, sounds great
so lovely god damn
Love it!
heavenly.
Man. This is good content!
Good golley, that's a sweet melody on the steel!
Love it ❤
Oh man, that was awesome, it reminds me of when I began to take country music seriously, when I began to realize it's a good time waiting to happen!
whoa that was great.
I too have listened to Bill Frisell
Very cool!!! 👏🏼👏🏼😊
Brings to mind Sandy Bull playing with a drum machine. Damn beautiful!
I love the Beach Boys but I can never hear this little melody without thinking of Sam Cooke's take on Sentimental Reasons!
I still hear sam cooke’s influence on so many songs to this day.
Can you do this for their entire discography please?
That was sublime.
Akshully it was Beach Boys...
@@Typical.Anomaly you should be doin time with that one.
sheeesh this is incredibly good
Flippin gorge!
✨Normalize steel guitar for all genres✨
Killer. Have y’all heard the Bill Frisell version?
Dude I would eat a whole album of vulfpeck beach boys covers. Like eat
Does this mean we’re getting a holy trinity of vulfmon albums 🙏🙏🙏
Good as heck, indeed
impressive.
Heck yeah Drew!
It does sound pretty good, Bean Ornish.
If you guys haven’t already, you gotta check out this band called I Come To Shanghai, some of the best pedal steel I’ve heard.
My fav beach boy song on my favorite intrument yahoo!
oh yeah
This is cleeeeeean
“Surfer girl?? I never even met her girl!”
-Cory, off in the distance (probably)
Please release this somewhere where I can pay for it and listen on repeat forever til I die. Thanks
so true jack
THE SHOOOOOEEEEEES!!!
That Emmons sound can’t be beat! Say no to steels with active pickups and frivolous extra coils!!
I need to find more that sounds like this, it makes the hair on my neck stand up, I likes it a lot
Check out "Sleepwalk".
damn that's nice
💎
Beach Boys好きだから嬉しい
I love pedal steel guitar
i appreciate you not using capslock in this very capslocky title
This is good content
That's an YAMAHA SA75 Bass. Love it!
❤
The title of this video is correct
´this is good content´ in deed
Jack's got a new starcaster!
I'm distraught at how much I want that pink shred stick... That has to be custom right??? I've never seen one in that color!
@@SteveMcGillis I think that's just the 70s "natural colour" but either there's a filter on the camera or the lighting is making it look pink
Fuck yeah this is so good
been jamming so hard on Endless Summer lately, timely chaps
heckin' goob
this is good content.
the sheer audacity to film this in portrait mode
agreed
I host a jam on Thursdays, a pedal steel player showed up at the last one…it was so wonderous… the algorithm is real.
Sick house plants yo
maybe everything's gonna be alright.
the title of this video is correct
You could tell dude was itching to solo after that chorus
ummm hell yes?!?
NO... WHERE DID THAT PINK STARCASTER COME FROM??? DON'T TRY TO DISTRACT WITH SWEET PEDAL STEEL!!!
Am I dead? Is this heaven?
Straight from the Goo Lagoon
Oh so like the Bill Frisell cover.
There is a song I've been trying to find that sounds similar to this instrument but it uses a guitar instead and has no words. I've been trying to find it with no luck and I don't really know my instruments that well. Any song suggestions?
beachy
please please please jack i neeeeed to hear a vulf rendition of Sitting by TJ Mack pleeeaaaseeee
To be fair every song sounds good as heck on pedal steel, mandolin, or vibraphone.
this is the type of stuff I've wanted to do for a while, but pedal steels mad expensive
Same!! I'm a drummer, but pedal steel has always fascinated me! Too bad it's like $2K for a student model.
only one step more and you have a harpeji
Blend the beach boys and meters style hard jazzy funk
Nice haha
beautiful!!!! what is the tuning???
I'm gonna need some video evidence of this so called 'jam' with ryan lerman...
