Oh man - I was hoping you had a trick for not hiking back to grab the camera! How about this: mavic mini drone - set up the shot (perched on a rock or whatever) do the walk, fly the drone back to you!
Thanks for the vid Levi- I always appreciate your methodology.

I love behind the scenes videos like this one. I shoot video as we explore abandoned mines. I end up carrying two GoPros with me. One rigged up with a Aputure light on an L-handle for outward facing shots, and a second on a selfy-stick with a Lume-Cube for speaking directly to the camera. It's a bit of a challenge to edit all the video from the two cameras into a coherent story. You have been an inspiration. I was previously a Patreon supporter, but now it's time to step back up and become a channel member. Thanks for all the insights! Merry Christmas!

Great video and explanation on what it really takes to make a finished product. The majority of work comes in post production and is what I find so satisfying. Thanks for a behind the scenes adventure on the mountain. As a past owner of a 1972 Honda XL250 I can appreciate your enthusiasm when your bike started and ran after the adventure. Cheers

I find I need to keep my trail running shape top notch which allows me to either get shots ahead or behind my hiking crew and always keep up with them for my hiking films. I end up adding 10% extra distance (20km hike for my friends is 22km for me) they always think my strava track is broken until I point out the filming haha.

Hey Levi, love these types of videos where you talk a bit about the BTS. What hit home was when you said that a normal adventure is way different than one where you are filming. I find it difficult to get that extra self footage with tripods when you’re with a group because of the extra time it takes. I hope to join one of your adventure filmmaking courses, I’m a local Vancouverite and explored a lot of the same mountain ranges you’ve been to. Would love to know if you plan on making any local BC courses or workshops for 2022!

Appreciate this Levi! I kind of wish there was more of a...designation...for self-filmed trips. I spent about 3 years traveling the world by bicycle with a partner and sometimes it is hard to communicate with audiences what you are actually doing behind-the-scenes. I do find myself 'eye rolling' at times at Patagonia films and other adventures where it is focused on 1 person's adventure but there are 2+ designated filmmakers to capture that trip.
AUDIO! I'm learning so much about audio and would love to know more.
I picked up the Sony A7sIII because of you after using a $500 Nikon off Craigslist - the 24 - 105 lens is great. Does the Insta 360 have great stabilization (pre or post?) I was impressed with the footage of you driving over giant pot holes.
    Keep adventuring!

I really enjoyed this. I'm solo 98% of the time in BC and see nothing wrong with your trip. Its good to hear your break down of what you do. The 20mm has become my favourite lens and it amazes me how well it records the interior of the tent and how close it focuses while in there...and of course the size and weight is a bonus. I never thought of flipping scenes(such a newbie it hurts) and I may try it. Cheers.

Just set it, 30 second flight time to get it back to you, but if you're only doing a few of these per trip, don't know if the the weight would be worth it. Plus getting an angle that would be just how you want it would require so much luck, and it would have to be free of debri to actually launch and make the whole thing seamless, so ill admit, its not as revolutionary of an idea as I initially thought 😂
